I confirm that SnapBridge interfacing (to an Android phone) is, in a word, maddenning. The SnapBridge documentation is completely generic, and describes a bunch of camera screens which are contingent on the camera model (and possibly even the camera's firmware version). Note that SnapBridge's circle (during connections) is not actually a constant thin gray line. It is actually a thin gray line which gradually changes into a thin yellow line (clockwise from 12 o'clock; a circular progress bar, if you will). That will at least tell you whether the app thinks it's making progress. If it doesn't start turning yellow, I guess it's wedged at the start. And if it turns into a perfect yellow line, but doesn't transition to the next dialog box, then I guess it timed out. Otherwise, perhaps the most constructive comment that I can make is that if/when you (successfully) connect to the camera for remote photography (which uses WiFi), the camera's monitor will display: (i) Connected [MENU] Exit This does not mean "hit the MENU button to dismiss this stupid screen and revert to the image of the current subject". It means, "if you hit the MENU button, the camera will exit Remote Photography mode (and (IIRC), wedge SnapBridge)". You're better off hitting the icon on the smartphone (at least on Android), which will get SnapBridge out of remote photo mode, and tell the camera to return to normal mode (albeit retaining a WiFi, not Bluetooth connection to the phone). To toggle back to Bluetooth, hit the WiFi icon on the app after returning to SnapBridge's leftmost (camera) tab (as opposed to the smartphone tab or the cloud tab). SnapBridge is so opaque that I can't judge whether it is unreliable, or merely has such a poorly described GUI that it is easy to believe that there is a pairing or connection failure, when it's merely a user error of clicking on the wrong buttons in the wrong order. The latter would imply that SnapBridge has crappy documention for the GUI. Hence "maddenning" above. Keep plugging away and you're likely to understand how to run the app.

H! I love your review! I have a question about the “Quick Adjust” option under the “Picture Control” menu. How does it affect the image when shooting? I read about it in the manual, but I'm not sure how it relates to the other types of adjustments. Furthermore, my landscape shots are not sharp in daytime, even after adjusting the sharpness to 5. Thanks
@techtoremember8096
@techtoremember8096 4 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for the comment. In the Picture Control menu you can tweak the image. If you click the first item which is "Standard" it will take you to some sliders where you can adjust sharpness, contrast or saturation of the recorded image. This will affect both photos and video and can give your pictures more "pop". The Picture control menu also has some presets called Neutral, Vivid and Monochrome. The last one will put your pictures in black and white, the other ones will provide a filter type effect. You can easily test them and see if they are to your liking. Not sure why your landscape photos are not sharp. They should look good. Try changing some camera settings. Put the camera in auto and try it. Check your shutter speed too to make sure. If you are hand holding and the shutter speed is too slow it will blur your image. Are you fully zoomed in? These all can negatively impact the final image. If you are zoomed in too much, it may get blurry. Try full wide angle and see how it goes. Make sure your lens is clear as well, which is obvious but can easily be a cause of an issue!

I had a terrible time trying to get photos to transfer to my iPhone using Snapbridge. When you get to the box that says to PAIR, immediately after selecting that on your iPhone, be sure to push OK on the camera. When you're finished using the remote feature or downloading the photos, tell Snapbridge to forget the camera and tell your iPhone's Bluetooth to forget the device. Trust me, next time it will be easier. It took me hours to figure out how to transfer photos.

Sorry i missed it - I don’t remember the exact settings for that photo I believe I just had set it to auto - taking portraits you don’t need any special settings I would advise however to get maximum depth of field you stand as far away as possible on your subject and zoom in tight -this will simulate a portrait lens and help put your background out of focus -Also you can use a flash too for portraits even outside for a nice effect to fill in shadows in the face

You indicate that the knob on the left side is focusing, but mine only adjusts “exposure compensation” from what I can tell. Maybe it’s got dual or multifunctions. I don’t know. That’s why I came here, but that threw me for a loop and I’m lost now.

@AlanHMartin
@AlanHMartin 6 ай бұрын
The side dial only adjusts the focus when the Focus Mode lever is switched to Manual Focus mode. OTOH, in Autofocus Mode, you can assign many different functions to the side dial: exposure compensation, ISO, white balance, shutter speed, aperture, or nothing. The default (as you discovered) is exposure compensation.

Hello, I have a question for you. I have the Nikon P950. Last night I got some great pics of the moon. Both in moon mode and in Manual mode. The question I have for you is when I am in manual mode and switch to manual focus, I am unable to change the aperture and the shutter speed unless I switch back to auto focus. Am I doing something wrong or is this the way the camera is. Thank you Joe B. NJ
@techtoremember8096
@techtoremember8096 Жыл бұрын
Hey Joe Focus and aperture and shutter speed are all independent of each other so no that shouldn’t be - when I am with the camera again I will check but this should not be I would make sure your firmware is up to date as well
@AlanHMartin
@AlanHMartin 6 ай бұрын
When you are in Manual Mode and first switch to Manual Focus, the top ("command") dial is grabbed to adjust the brightness of focus peaking highlights, and the back ("rotary multi-selector") dial is disabled. So you can't use them to adjust speed or aperture (respectively). But if you rock the multi-selector _down_, it toggles back to the main part of Manual Shot mode, and the two dials once again adjust speed and aperture. Rocking the multi-selector down _again_ will toggle back to the submode where peaking intensity can be adjusted. I did not notice this aspect of the camera until reading your comment just now. Note also that rocking left will cycle between the display's view of the scene being magnified 1x, 2x, and 4x (so that you can see minute details to fine-tune the manual focus). And rocking right will momentarily use the autofocus to refocus the camera to get you in the ballpark, and then revert to manual focus mode for tweaking.

Yesterday I was taking perhaps my 500th photo with my 10 day old P950 and for the first time, it would not auto focus shortly after I took a picture that had the sun at the top of the picture. About 10 minutes later the auto focus started working again. I've taken 200 pics since then with no problem. Any explanation?
@techtoremember8096

The sun was probably the culprit. It’s never a good idea to point the sensor directly at the sun. Fortunately it corrected so I wouldn’t be terribly concerned.

I have a video devoted to focus modes on this camera you may want to check out. You may want to take it out of face priority mode. When the camera doesn't detect a face , those green boxes are a zone where the camera thinks it should focus. Its kind of random sometimes. Better bet might be to put it in the manual spot in the center mode this way it always focuses on whats in the center of the frame. You have to go into the menu and change the focus mode

Hi after speaking to you yesterday I realize that using my Samsung galaxy s23 ultra is giving me more options than the p1000. The S23-ULTRA has so many camera and video features 100x zoom expert raw photo can be over 100mb. I think the big cameras are getting close to being obsolete. I don't know if you have tried the features on the s23 ultra I highly recommend you grab a tripod and the ultra a give it a go.
