We used one of these lenses specially mounted to an Arri cinema camera on the set of 'Surface', an AppleTV+ series I shot last September. You'll definitely recognize the 6mm scene when you see it. ;)

How did you get this Lense on a arri camera? What arri camera?

You should try pointing it straight up in a dark sky. I did this very thing yesterday with the APS-C fisheye and early result are promising.

I love crazy wide-angle and fisheye lenses. I have the AF-S 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5 E from Nikon and another crazy Lawoa 4mm f/2.8 DX from Venus optics which gives the same crazy field of view on a DX sensor as the lens in this video :D Oh, and I did not mention that the Laowa lens is almost 12-15 times smaller! Just shows you how technology evolved over the past 40 something years!

I have a circular fisheye. I love using it to shoot up at dome ceilings in cathedrals and for holiday light images (makes them look like snowglobes).

The modern very portable solution is the AFS 8-15 fisheye zoom that works perfectly with the FTZ adapter with rectangular FE on APS-C or FF Z cameras and round FE on FF

How about testing the Z9's IBIS with the 2000mm f11 or the 100cm f6.3 Reflex-Nikkor, e.g. with a handheld shot of the moon 😁? Or a head to head between this 6mm against a Laowa 4mm 2.8 Z mount? Thanks as always
@schtggl62652 жыл бұрын
But that's for APS-C, isn't it?
@DixonLu2 жыл бұрын
@@schtggl6265 For circular fisheyes, it sort of doesn't matter (the F mount 10mm DX works on FX camera). The crop of 4mm @ 1.5 will give a comparable 6mm. Just curious if a tiny $200 lens can match a 6 figured, 50+ y.o. one.

I used one in 1978 for a shoot for Cadbury. It was an absolutely wonderful lens to use. Then I got stuck using an OP 10mm fisheye. Nowhere near the same experience. Either way, the 6mm and 10mm made me fall in love with fisheyes.

In reference to your comment at the end of this wonderful video. See if you can obtain an 8mm F/2.8. Then do a presentation on that lens. I am following one now on Ebay. They are all over, and all from Japan. Do you know who the target market was for Nikon when they made these (6mm and 8mm) fisheye lenses. I want to use it for Milkyway photography, but then what else can I do with it????? That is the problem. Any suggestions?

this video has me thinking, about the next firmware updates for the z's... maybe add a de-vignyetting tool, to crop into the image circle of these lenses, so you get the correct image, without the post-processing to fix it in lightroom, etc. ( or a 'special' teleconvertor to do it for you?)

Now I know much more about the shades of grey at Westminster, interesting lens for a big sensor. Now it is possible to shoot in two directions and crop the right out of it. Amazing and very easy, Maske your foto in postproduction.

This is my favorite of your 2022 videos. Kon could have done the polite thing and bring the 6mm5.6 GOW has in stock, that would be a lot easier to carry... I used the 628 long ago, but only on a sturdy tripod.

Kon and Becky this was great! Becky I can remember I think it was in the summer and you guys were walking around shooting and you had a fisheye on if I'm remembering right. I know this fisheye is so extreme but any thoughts on using fisheye for walking through cities and street photography? Also I'm a macro guy I do bug shots and I was wondering is there a fisheye that would be suitable for bugs and small settings?

I wonder how many of these are in the world??? You should try Milkyway photography with it. However, I guess by now it has already been shipped back to where ever? I am looking at a Nikon 8mm on Ebay. They seem to be quite common in Japan, and there are a number of them for sale for about $1500.00+/- USD. I am "following" one now. Most stay on Ebay for months with out any buyers, the thing is, the prices never drop. I guess they know that there are fools like me who will eventually buy one. Why? I do Milkyway photography, plus maybe I can figure out something else for it?????? Anybody out there have any ideas on how to effectively use the Nikon 8mm? Also, another question. Companies don't make lenses for the heck of it. When this lens was made, who was Nikon's market exactly???????? Same for the 8 mm. Was there a practical application for this technology at one time?????

Very much envy you for putting your hands on her (My long time dream fairy) but without any of that feeling, let me add a few more to this majestic piece of glass art/engineering, also called 6mm f2.8 Nikkor lens: - As for being rear or not and after an extensive talk to a lot of photographers who have had or done it all, I figured out, No one, none, has seen this lens in person", even in an exhibition. Thus and needless to say, the theory of conspiracy clearly told me, it's all a hoax Nikon has made to drive the media's attention, just like what NASA calls it "Sending the man to the moon"! - But google legend has it and it has recorded that this glass allegedly has 3 times found its way to the USA mainland. The Last was in a display at a famous photographic shop in Chicago when in the darkness of night a car crashes into the shop's window and the lens disappears for good not quite like Al Capone, but the other 3 inmates from his jail, Alcatraz... - I saw the lens long back on eBay, allegedly sold for $13K, when I failed to put in the winning bid, and always regret that. Next and not long after, it reappeared for $33K. And last time for sale, I saw it from a luxury photo seller in Germany. Never again (To my knowledge). - The pictures that I remember from those sale events, non had those nasty scratches you show here on yours... - Putting it all together and having, knowing many friends from the UK, then knowing a little about Brits in general and history, say the other shiny thing, yes that diamond, originally called Koh-i-Noor, now to shape it, being cut in half and being on the crown of the former Queen of England, (current Owner is said to be "The British Crown" whatever that means) I can safely say I should know it better and seems I know what is the faith of one that disappeared in Chicago... Anyways, dearly thank you for showing me one real example of this magnificent piece of the 7 wonders or marvels of our photography world.

I think the practical value of this lens goes towards zero, it’s just to show off technical abilities of a manufacturer . Fine but what’s the point.
