I'm a C-5 quadriplegic with limited arm and no hand function that relies completely on the touchscreen to take pictures so I'll be taking the upgrade to the Z6 from my Olympus system. It was brilliant to use in the store with all the functions usable right from the screen and I got one right away! I have wanted to go with Sony so bad and waited for so long but their touchscreens always sucked, not even a touch shutter function which I absolutely need. They still look like great cameras but in the smartphone age i don't know how hard it is to throw in a decent touchscreen on cameras you don't have to use it if you don't want to.

Nick Rath hey! Me too!! I’m technically a C4 SCI, but I’m a functional C5. Rear-ended while at a red light. I’ve enjoyed using a Z6 with the wired remote shutter release to trigger by holding it in my mouth. Great hobby, and glad to see other tetraplegics shooting stuff 😬 My main system is still Sony e-mount, as I’ve got a TON of Zeiss and G-Master glass. It’s lame 😒 (hehe) that they haven’t yet integrated full touchscreen capabilities on A7/A9 yet. I mainly use an A7ii, because they make a great, tiny little shutter release that’s about 2” x 1” and super easy to hold with your mouth.

I got mine in Tuesday and shoot primarily with a D4. The reviews here is spot on. I don't have any native lenses, and uses the adapter with all my lenses. I can say the focus is good not as fast as my D4 but it works. I'm happy with my purchase and glad I held off for a Nikon Mirrorless. I have way too much glass invested in Nikon to change over..

I like about the mirrorless is that you can see all the exposure on the fly but I like my D4 for action and doing photo shoots. I did pick up a D30 for vlogging a couple of weeks ago. The £250 or so extra I would have had to pay for the adaptor (which wont work with my excellent low element screw drive lenses) could have got me a super used 60mm F2.8 Nikkor macro lens.

These older videos before 2.0 firmware release in May2019 sought to be redone or pulled down because the AF is completely different and now is a very suitable replacement for any action DSLR. I recently sold my D850 because it was getting so little use after getting the Z6 and the funds generated from that will add a Z7 to the kit.Low light focusing is now better than DSLRs and action and burst is as good or even faster than the D850. The Eye-AF works well but for a portrait photographer it is not needed but it seems to be popular with new camera owners. Based on handling, XQD reliability, ergonomics and menu, great EVF, build quality, focus peaking accuracy, AF- speed and accuracy, weather sealing, IBIS performance, color, low light high ISO IQ, video performance, connectivity, and access to S lenses I can't think of a better camera currently on the market for long term return on investment. The Panasonic S1 is well made with good weather sealing also but heavy and large with very expensive lenses but suffers from only having contrast AF

@@mostafa1996mazyad I bought a Z7 originally because the country where I live now had Z7 imported but not yet at that time any Z6. I had high res in the D850 so really wanted the the faster and lower light capable Z6. The dealer I get my gear from was willing to trade the Z7 in for a Z6 when it became available. The manager threw in a 35mm 1.8 and 50 1.8 S lens to cover the difference in cost. I had the Z7 for 3 weeks and used it daily and got the first Z6 available in the city. The Z6 has been my primary camera for 2 years and love it. I sold the D850 because it just was not getting used. Occasionally an art director will insist on larger files in studio work so I still had the D800 but for all studio or field commercial shooting and all my personal shooting has been on the Z6 which I love for its reasonable file size, low light performance, and DR. Now that the Z7 2 is officially announced I am interested in adding the Z7 2 and finally selling all my F mount cameras and lenses. The S lenses are so good that I never use the F mount. The Z6 with 85 1.8 S actually delivers better images than the excellent D850 with even the best F lenses.The Z mount allows corner to corner resolving power that was just not possible with the small diameter F mount. That is the reason Z cameras consistently produce better images than the Sony cameras due to their small deeper flange on their mount. Canon and Panasonic have also gone with large diameter flanges but they have deeper flange distance than the Z mount so have a harder time matching the corner to corner performance of the much lower cost S lenses. So, to be fulling in the mirrorless camp with a large collection of excellent S lenses it is time to add a Z7 2 for higher pixel density for product and other studio clients. My paid work really fell off this year since Covid arrived so selling off the F lenses will cover it and a 58 0.95 with enough left over for the stellar 70-200 S 2.8, probably the best zoom every made

The Adobe DNG converter will process Z6 RAW images. It’s beta and will expire the end of the year. Presumably they will have updated Lightroom by then. But it works fine. I have had the Z6 for five days now and have been using mostly manual focus lenses like Nikkor AI-S lenses. IBIS is superb on this camera, and with focus peaking through the EVF and the ability to quickly change between registered non-CPU glass suddenly this class of lenses has new life. Give it a try. Great for street and video. We don’t need auto-focus for everything 😉

So here's something.. If you're stepping into a pro level system while mirrorless being regarded as the future of photography, would you go for the Sony A7[fill in the blank] or an older DSLR system while Nikon and Canon catch up? Invest in old, proven tech with Canon or Nikon? Or jump into Sony which already has a mature mirrorless system? The nature of photography requires some sort of brand loyalty in that it makes the most sense to invest in one system. At first i thought this was a great time to be shopping but the more i over think it, the more i see that it's a terrible time to make a large investment in photography gear. Ahh!! I want to like Nikon mirrorless but i can see its just not for me.. Need something reliable for fast action sports. Just like the A7 and A7II were not the best at anything, I'm expecting the same to be the case with the first Nikon and Canon mirrorless systems.

I agree. I personally would invest in the cheapest system that suits my needs atm. That for me is the A7iii for hybrid shooting. I do weddings and family shoots and some short films and it's been my work horse. For everyday walk around shooting I love the fuji system.

@@verselines One very important thing that many don't discuss about future proofing. Those big Canon and Nikon lens mount are going to provide in the long run some better lens. Already the Nikon S 35 f 1.8 and 24-70 F4 lens are providing some exceptional result in sharpness, aberration, vignette etc

As a nikon shooter (D750, D600, D3400, V3, and V1), I feel the A73 is a better all around camera than the Z6/7. I feel so strongly about it that I plan to wait for the 2nd generation of the "Z" before I dive in. I also feel like Nikon should have bundled the adapter for free or at least $50.

How, because it can focus a little bit better, because in all the other domain like body ergo, weather sealing, viewfinder, rear screen, video etc the z6 is superior. As a Nikon D750 user which has retired my d800 to my bag 95% of the time, the z6 will be better to everything you have only to the d750, and I could say that with its full frame AF in some case better than the D750.

I think you don`t have to be a Nikon user to get interested in the Z6 or Z7 because of the new lens mount you`ve to start with a complete new system no matter which brand your using so far. I`m a Nikon user, so if I want to upgrade I would go for the Nikon D5 instead.

Yeah, but if you're paying for the latest tech, then why would you pay for a sub par AF? If you want to use a manual lens, go for it, but you're paying a lot for features not to use them. Get an older Nikon, the sensor will mostly be fine, and you dont seem to need the advancements in AF.

@@saaaaaadSub par AF, compared to what....a Sony a7iii? My colleague owns one and I have used it multiple time...even last Tuesday. The Nikon Z6 AF is not that far from the Sony a7iii AF....and in case of video the Z6 is better than the Sony. Over all this camera is technically better than the Sony (and I had owned a A7riii for a few days last Feb)....Better IBIS, Better color contrast, Awesome EVF (way better than a7riii), better handling, similar low light performance, similar dynamic range, similar focus speed and a better collection of lenses to use on (don't focus on the Z lenses only)....like I said my favorite lens on this camera is the Voigtlander 58mm f1.4. I even can use the 50mm F1.8 AIS lens (Price $50) on this camera. Also, AF is not the end game of todays cameras, look if you have to take sharp pictures (from portraits to Landscapes), you will not depend on AF only....you will end up using Manual Focus with image magnification and focus peaking....something that this camera does really good... This camera needs to improve upon high speed action AF......but this camera is not a D5 or a D500 or D850....never was sold like one.

@@hitmanhart22 While I agree the difference in AF isn't huge, it is noticeable, and within a short time span (ive tried both). This becomes more pronounced the longer you use it, and specially in C-AF. Even in this video, within 1 day of shooting, there are AF struggles throughout. The Z6 is a good performer, but if you're not already invested in nikon glass, i dont think its as good. I agree that the grip/feel of the Z cameras, as well as the weather sealing, but thats it. Single card slot isnt a big issue, and battery life appears to be ok, but worse. AF is worse, and Sony has market leading eye AF. And no, if your camera is focussing correctly, you dont need manual focus adjustments. IBIS is better on the Nikon, but not by a big margin. The custom buttons are weirdly placed on the Z cameras, and there's less of them. While the menus are better, you have to use it more often one the nikon (even for simple things like switching on auto iso). I actually find the Sony way easier to use with 4 dials on the body, 4 custom buttons and a personolisable menu (which i barely even use thanks to the custom buttons and dials). Video appears better in terms of colour depth, but even in this video it appears to struggle to pick out the foreground object with the AF. I'll take more reliable AF any day.

The first picture I ever took was with a twin reflex Rollieflex 2.8 in 1956. It made great images. Any of you with skills can make great images with any of these recent cameras. The tech is mostly about sales. The important element is who is holding the camera.

Specs wise the sony is superior, but as you said it is the photographer who makes the shot, and sony's grip and global user experience is not as comfortable as Nikon's and Canon's. So even if the Z6 is slightly inferior, it is more comfortable to use and therefore, can let the photographer produce better shots in a lot of cases. Great review tho

I'm ordering one of these for video. I will pair it with a Gh5s and an Atomos. I already have F mount glass that I speed boost with the GH system. I mainly want this for gimbal mounted AF. IMO this is the first Nikon camera with usable video capabilities. It won't replace my other cameras but hopefully, it can do that one job. BTW, watch out for those spearmint rhinos

in my country A73 and Z6 are both priced at 2300 eur, EOS R is 2500 with adapter. Far from being affordable. Most of the people will probably still consider 6D1/2 or older FF Nikon cameras.

I know it would be a major pain in the arse, but it would be absolutely wonderful if you could add in every shot what it was filmed with... just for educational purposes. Maybe it is not all that interesting for photographers, but as an aspiring videographer I would love to see the differences different cameras capture. (And I am well aware, that in fact to make sense, you would need to add the settings and lenses and all that malarkey, but just the camera would be a nice start).

I have the A7iii and it’s autofocus is good . I really enjoy having the eye AF , but man it does feel like crap in the hand and its buttons are small . If the Z6 had a better Af system I would have that instead . In the end it doesn’t matter just use whatever works for you .

I shoot with a nikon d500 and d850 and bought one of my photographers a sony a7r3 which i was nervous about and i really warry about the nikon digitals.. im a diehard nikon man but i would definitely go for the sony a73 which is basically the same as our a7r3 the auto focus on the sonys is fast and accurate.

But the failure of this camera ( and Nikon should have known better ) it has only has ONE card slot

On my D5 I have D25 AF-C with back button focus. I'm so used to back button focus that I sure hope the Z7 can compare. The fastest focusing lens on the D5 is the 70-200E or VRIII. Anyways my 200-500 is not that fast, so I wouldn't be using it to test focusing speed

Man this guy's still hating on Sony. Damn it's been like forever. Hadn't seen his videos since like 2013. But recently got back into photography again. I happily went with the a6300.

TheMichael408 someone else who notices lol! He hasn’t really stopped. He’s gotten better at making his bias not be so obvious as he will say positive stuff about Sony, but always conclude against it overall by finding ways of weighing it’s competitors’ advantages very very highly. Common and current industry knowledge puts Nikon Z6/Z7 are solid, but still behind Sony - especially at the time of this video when Nikon didn’t even have eye-AF

the z6-7 I'm sure are nice but nikon made some odd choices like the Z7 cost near enough the D850 yet only one memory chip place on the Z7. I think I will wait for the next generation.By then they will have more lenses two memory slots hopefully perhaps even a better sensor.

Needs in-body stabilization. That 4k 25fps footage gave me a nosebleed, it was shaking so much.

Hi. I am trying to choose a camera. For my family pictures and videos. The choices are Nikon z6 or Sony a6600. I favor the Nikon for its sharper images. However my wife likes the Sony because of the compact lens available and lightweight. She thinks it's more practical. However I don't want to miss out on the best pictures. On KZbin, I see that the image comes out very clear, but when I look at the LCD screen in the store or the viewfinder it does not come out as spectacular as the actual KZbin videos. What do you think, what is your recommendation?

I'll stick with my used D600. Full frame. 24MP, just like the Z6. Good ones on the used market for $600. I guess I'll have to live with that awful mirror that doesn't drain batteries and the 1000 shot battery life . And all that Nikon glass that doesn't need an adapter.

I'm still using a D300S and its half the MP, the photos it takes are still fantastic ! the only bad thing about my camera is its ISO and the fact its not full frame, but for macro that I do it's not really a problem, however, I must say next camera upgraded is a toss-up between the Z6 or the Sony a3, Now if only the Z to f mount was free it would be a easier choice to make .

I just got a Z6 with the kit lens. Great camera! Was using Canon most recently but IMHO the EOS R controls are a big step backward from my EOS-M5 and no IBIS and the kit lens is big and heavy. I also don't get the Canon pricing, the EOS-R plus 24-105 is $800 more (?!?!) than the Z6 with 24-70. OTOH Canon is best at touchscreen, Nikon next, Sony nowhere, and that is very important to me. Do I hope Nikon release a firmware upgrade making the continuous focusing better? Sure, just like everybody else on the planet. Do I have trouble taking the opinions of the other guy in this video seriously as long as he chews gum constantly. Yup.

If you don't have a system or you only have one or two lenses, the A7III is the best camera for 98% digital photography. The price is low. You got plenty resolution. A super good focus system with eye focus. 10 FPS, 6k to 4k video.. you got it all. You can even use Canon lenses with the Sigma MC-11 adapter. Thats why the A7III is so good and the best value for money. The Z6.. yes its good if you got any Nikon lenses. But there is nothing new under the sun. You got technology there is 3 years old in the Sony camp

From what I can tell I'm getting much faster AF speeds on the A7III with a Canon fit Sigma Contemporary and MC-11. Should AF be the basis for choice? I would think for wildlife photography it is. I chatted with a Nikon photographer last week and although Dslr AF is still fast and smooth on native lenses tracking to point, Mirrorless focus lock changes the game as does forward tracking. So its a bit of a different shooting experience all together. I think if your coming home with more usable shots in focus to begin with should be a good indication. Loved your review of the 7dmkii so much I picked up a second hand copy. A7III up against that as comparison, its in a different league. Firmware can change everything though. It did for the A7III and most likely will for Nikon. Thats why I think you cant judge these cameras too quick these days.

@@markshirley01 Yep. As did Sigma's firmware. I think its just standard practice these days to get the most out of new cameras. I mean I'd love to see these mirrorless cameras put to Kais race track test like the 7DMkii and D500 were.

Again a major company rushes out their product but have too few accessories (lens) so that you have to use lens that are not designed for said specific camera.
