I’m just getting back into photography and treated myself to the Nikon Z6. I was so intimidated I figured I would never be able to figure out this camera until I saw your training video. The video is phenomenal. I had so many ah-ha moments. You explained the camera features very simply and clearly. I am now a huge fan and plan to watch all your videos. Thank you so very much.

I have the Z7 but might exchange it at the dealer for the Z6 since I really don't need the high res file sizes, because I shoot studio with a D850 and was looking for a smaller walking around camera and event second camera instead of my D800. I love the Z7 but think the Z6 24mpx is optimum for my needs. I just wanted to write to say this is the best tutorial about the setup and function of the Z cameras and after using all these features for a few weeks in events, studio and casual shooting, there was nothing I would have changed in your description. It took me 2 weeks to learn what viewers could get from this video in 1:40:00. I would advise beginners or those transitioning from other brands to get the crash course if it is as well done as this video. You will save a lot of time, and unlearning bad habits. Good work Michael.

Hi Michael - Thank you so much for this tutorial, I am a beginner and bought the Z6ii but wasn't aware of what these buttons are for and how they function but I admit that I knew only AIS setting but none of the functions not aware. This video helps me to understand better its functionality and its significance. I think I have to go through it one more time so that I can understand it better and adapt what, where and how to process. Thanks so much :)

That’s a really great walkthrough. I’m impressed with the level of control Nikon gives you over the look of the image for both photo and video. I found when borrowing a friend’s D800 that I could “design” a B&W style in-camera that I liked and so after shooting I wasn’t messing around with a 1,000 different looks in the edit. So seeing this level of control-it’s not just the generic standard, vivid, landscape, etc.-it goes down into levels of sharpening by brightness, fine tuning contrast and saturation (within the setting you chose) and enough other subtle adjustments that “getting it right in-camera” appears to be a much more doable and enjoyable process. I was originally searching for a video that’d simply show me how the touchscreen operated before I got pulled into everything else, but wow, that touchscreen is really, really impressive. I was just shooting with the Sony a7III and its touchscreen is so limited and laggy that I pretty much disregarded it. It’s nice to see Nikon did such a good job with the touchscreen here, in addition to the excellent rear LCD (another weak spot with the Sony, though I do like that camera). Thanks for the video. If I pick up a Z6 your crash course looks like an excellent investment, and priced well also. 👍

Always watch your videos, but bought the Z6 this week and it helped me get through the initial stage of learning my camera. The information and settings were invaluable and at least now I have a better feel for all the features of the camera. Not one to learn the video portion of the camera(D500, D60, D3200 , D90) but now I am able to take video with no effort. Will be purchasing your download shortly. Thank you so much for taking the time to put this all together.

Thanks so much , you put a lot of effort into making this blog. So personally I want to say cheers . My first camera was the film real. a.s.a .... The thing is now , people think that their phone saves them money when it comes to taking great photos. There is something about a camera it's a weapon for art. Today the camera is more affordable than ever. I still believe using a camera is more about having pride in a job well done. My z7.11 arrives so for me age 68 the world is still worth a secound look.cheers....from England .

Pro tip: When you connect Snapbridge to your camera the first time, choose the Bluetooth+wifi option (second choice). This way you can leave BT on and connect anytime and it will turn on wifi automatically when in app when it needs to. If i am worried about battery while shooting then i just go into Airplane mode (i put it on the i menu). So to be clear i leave BT on and just open Snapbridge when i need it and it just connects without me having to touch the camera and if it needs wifi for shooting, it will just turn wifi on in camera through the app.

To clear up what I believe is a bit of a misrepresentation, lossless compressed doesn't throw away anything hence the name lossless it's just compressed using a lossless algorithm. In a nutshell if you have a truly lossless compression format then the difference between a lossless compressed and an uncompressed file is absolutely zero once the lossless compressed file is uncompressed. A lossy compressed file on the other hand will drop off some details in an effort to create a smaller file.

2 questions: 1. If the ibis fails, does the Z6 otherwise continue to work normally as a camera with no ibis? 2. If the diopter adjustment range proves insufficient for your particular eyesight, is there a way to make further adjustments to your viewing? I ask because I find I need to wind the adjustment to the end for my eyesight on current Nikon D3x & D4 bodies.

I use RAW processing all the time. Lets me shoot in RAW and convert something to JPEG and transfer to my phone for immediate posting. This is especially useful on the Z cameras where you pay almost $100 for a 32GB card! On my Canon i just shoot RAW+JPEG. But yeah the rest are pretty useless. 1:31:14

I had the new Z6 for a couple of weeks and I'm having an annoying message that stops the camera. it said, " shutter release disable, recharge your battery" and this occurs also with a brand new fully charged battery. this happened while I was recording a video, reviewing photos or playing a video on the camera. to fix it, I had to shut off the camera and remove the battery. This clears the problem, but it happens too frequently that I'm thinking is a malfunction, shud I send the camera to the warranty?

fantastic video. I have only one question - when using the app for remote I notice you said it only produces 2mb images doing it that way. Is there a way to use your smartphone and the app to take a raw image? I am thinking specifically about setting the camera up to capture wildlife and using the app to remote shoot? When it says original size does that mean it will record the raw image or is it restricted to Jpeg ?

I used to use the remote control Nikon ML-L3 with my D750, is this remote control working with the Z6 that I bought today? I did not see in your video the control remote option, I only saw the timers
@jeffhansman2829
@jeffhansman2829 5 жыл бұрын
No, the ML-L3 does not work with the Z bodies. You must use either the clunky two-piece setup Nikon sells or the even clunkier Snapbridge app to remotely control your Z6. I wish it were otherwise, but alas. Personally, I use "Delayed Exposure" in the Shooting menu as the first item in My Menu, and assign that menu to my Movie record button. It's a workaround, but there it is. Not adding an infrared remote to the Z bodies was, IMO, a really dumb move on Nikon's part. I used it all the time with my D7000.

Hello Michael, Need some guidance,. Assuming the same subject, is there a difference in how one handles a Z6 vs Z7, as it got more MP, does the user need to use higher shutter speeds to minimize shake, as the higher MP will capture the slightest blurr and magnify it? I am deciding which one to get, currently I use a D800 (36MP), and feel Z6 is a step down just from MP point of view, as I pixel peep. Not a video person, and only use camera on holiday landscape and cityscape. Thank you

I dont get the AF for video. bout ready to Ebay it and get a GH5. will your crash course help?? otherwise its seems to be a really nice camera. Please help.

MS_inc_1 it’s decent & useable but not perfect. It’s way better than the GH5 (not even close) but Sony and Canons are better

@@MMaven I have no intrest in Cannon and sony is for another conversation BUT if I am understanding you correctly are you saying that the Z6's AF system is better than the GH5 for VIDEO?? i always thought the gh5 did a respectable job so maybe its some setting I have wrong in my Z6 or some other misunderstanding i have of the camera in whole. id like this z6 to work out but my gh5 along with its AF did great. if the AF is better in Z6 than the GH5 (sony aside) i'd shoot over and scoop up the crash course. I bought this Z6 with the intentions to put a Atomos to the side of it BUT im not dropping 1200 bucks on a recorder till i get this AF deal understood. please advise. THANKS!!

Aloha Michael, I bought the Z6 Z7 Course but have been unsuccessful in downloading it. Don’t currently have access to a desktop computer, limited to my iPhone for ~10 months while the house is built. I get the impression it’s not mobile compatible?

Hal Snyder hi Hal- apple prevents direct downloads, but you can transfer it through a desktop computer through iTunes. I’m not sure there’s an easy way to do so without one. We can look at making an app, but in the mean time, how can we make it right for you?

Michael The Maven, I need to work at getting internet here, and then set up a computer.... Apple iPhones and iPads don’t handle zip files, at least I haven’t been able to get them too... MP4, MOV, and other video types seem to pose no problems. You have nothing to make up! I’ll look at it when I can download them. I have both a Z7 and a Z6. My specific lack is video... which is what the Z6 is for. I’m trying to document the house construction and I’m a total neophyte in regards to shooting video. Any help there would be appreciated.

Yes. If you depress the shutter button while filming, the camera will record a jpg image to the card.

I don't want the best or awesome camera in the world, what I am searching for is a dslr camera that can take a moving picture's only 3 or 4 shots, just for example think I looked at a humming bird sucking nectar from a tree now think if I can take that bird's pictures 3 or 4 shots only at once and even at night clearly and in the house of thousands
