I decided to make some piranha solution, which is a mixture of sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide. It forms an extremely strong oxidizer that can vaporize most organic materials, like paper, into CO2 gas. #shorts

The chemistry behind it is that... The sulfuric acid reacts with the organic (carbon-containing) material to produce coal (pure, inorganic, reactive carbon). This happens for only a short while, but in the meantime, the hydrogen peroxide decomposes to form oxygen, which reacts with the carbon to form carbon dioxide, and water, which evaporates quickly as steam. This reaction (or really, dual reaction) is really exothermic, which is why you have to keep the environment around it cool.

@ColeAra Жыл бұрын
Concentrated!
@nestrior7733 Жыл бұрын
There's a limit on how concentrated some solutions can be. For sulfuric acid that is about 98%. Its affinity with water means that getting absolutely pure stuff, you have to keep it completely isolated. Hydrochloric acid is possible at over 40% (usually up to 38%), but the extremely high evaporation rate requires pressurisation and cooling to maintain. Phosphoric acid is most commonly used at 85% since it can self-condensate, then known as pyrophosphiric acid. 90% has a negligible amount, but 95% sees an increase to 15% already. And that's not where it ends, eventually leading to polyphosphiric acid. Full dehydration is not possible, only increasing the polymer and viscosity. For these three examples, and many others like them, the highest commercially available/used concentration is effectively their "pure" concentration. Anything more just means a massive pain in the bum.

Ok so acid vats are a legit way of disposing dead bodies. A lot of criminals and serial killers actually dissolved bodies in acid vats to get rid of them without any trace. All that's left of the body is a sludge that can be disposed easily.
