The Netherlands is a bit controversial when it comes to vanlife, some say its fine, others say its strictly not fine and you will go to jail.. we've had a good experience and wanted to share it with you, including going to see some amazing bands in Groningen.

Important info. I will write it in Polish because my English is not good enough. Nigdy nie sprawdzaj stanu oleju w taki sposób jak na filmie. Bagnet trzeba wyjąć, wytrzeć w coś końcówkę z miarką, włożyć spowrotem i ponownie wyjąć. Tylko w tedy pokaże prawidłowo stan oleju. Warto o tym wiedzieć, żeby nie zarżnąć silnika. Olej też sprawdza się na za zimnym silniku, a jeśli jest konieczność na rozgrzanym to warto odczekać olchociaz kwadrans, by olej miał czas spłynąć do misy z magistrali olejowej. Może się wam to przyda, pozdrawiam ;)

Sometimes a quick check like this is fine when the engine hasn't been started since the day before.. actually I check the oil like this for over a year and it hasn't blown up yet, and always has the correct level

Not been to Groningen, looks gorgeous, spent some time sailing and visited Monnikendam., Volendam, Edam, Hoorn, then over near where you are Makkum, Hindeloopen, the Netherlands is an amazing place and the people were so friendly

My wife and I are researching vanlife in the netherlands and from what we can see it's apparently very difficult to find places to park and sleep for free without getting busted and fined. How have you guys' experience been with it? Where do you sleep and how do you pull it off such that you don't get asked to leave or fined?

We were there for about two weeks, we used park4night and Google maps to find spots and didn't have an issue

I am Dutch and trying to get a mini van to camp, but only by the gass stations at the highway you are allowed to stay for one night. Everywhere else is illegal or costs about 30 euro for a night. A police ticket is 140 euro's so they were very very lucky.. it really sucks unfortunately 🌹

Sometimes I got two tickets for free. Because I promoted the concert in our town, by my radio broadcastings. So I ask the people there, who wants to get my second ticket for free ? So I saw Anastacia, Status Quo, and some german actors live in concert. But I missed Amy McDonald and Chris de Burgh. Because Others in our radio team got these tickets. We have small concerts, with 2.500 people only. But the artists love to act also at small concerts. And they can see and interact better, with the people there.

In Giethorn you need minimum three hours, for driving a boat. There is also a lake there, at the end of the canals and the village. And all the stupid tourists, who cannot handle a boat. And maybe block the canal. Another spot like this is in germany called "Spreewald" = in the south from Berlin down. But also cheaper, with guided boats. Now I eat pancakes with single side eggs on the top.

@@aarde7036 No, never. I have no practice, to handle boats. So I would need more time, as I expect. And would must pay more money for the rent. The locals feel like a part of a disney-park ? All the tourists and all the noise. I am a tourist too. But I keep respect. These are not fake houses. They live locals. In their own house. Another way is in the german "Spreepark." There are also many tourists. But the boats are driven by trained and experienced guides.
