The majority of non-metal fans really have no idea how difficult it is to play extreme metal, especially Black Metal. To the untrained ear, it sounds like "noise". But I always tell people who hear extreme metal for the first time to listen at a medium-low volume, close their eyes and really concentrate because when they do, they can hear everything clearly and separately. Rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass, keyboards (if equipped), and of course, drums. There is a level of genius behind creating extreme metal and these musicians don't get the respect that they deserve.

Indeed!!!! I started with hard rock, in the 70's, then metal in the 80's, and about 25 years ago, I found death and black metal. I just can't get enough of it. I agree with you, about people dismissing black metal, as just "noise'. They have no idea, how complex, and the time it takes to do the construction of the songs. Personally, I like Frost better in 1349.

This interview is a good response to all the haters criticizing Satyricon's music. An artist cannot be limited, should always be open to different perspectives
@urgaalnoir52686 жыл бұрын
the key difference is when the composer said : I write music for my self and Frost said no it has to be connected with the audience ,this is the secret of black metal , its audience is not so big as other genres but the music is produced to be connected with this audience regardless of its size
@magalipearl74 жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more with you. Satyricon music is powerful on it's own way and we do feel it.
@rhysioeren3203 Жыл бұрын
The reasons of why satyricon is criticized has nothing to do with their music or the approach they take on it. It is a matter of the scene and how some people see black metal in general. That said, depending on the discussion it is totally justified, I myself think frost is a great drummer in the wrong band, satyr just gave a bad taste to the band, but im glad frost is not chained to satyricon and he is a player by himself.

Huge fan of Satyricoj and 1349. But while at work I will listen to the classical channel and be like that really sounds metal in it's own right.

i listen mostly black metal, and i don´t know who Nils Henrik is, but man, he has more black metal oppinions than Frost that is one of my favorite drummers, i still think that he is great drummer, but actually i only like 1349, and just first album from Satyricon, but changing style sound to like Frost said to connection between audience and band or something is shit, black metal has to be like underground music, that doesn´t change for people, you get it, you listen it, or not. My oppinion on this is that Nils is more black metal than Frost.

See, that's why nobody gives a fuck about you.. The moment something "has" to be a certain way - it's no longer art, cause art is free - if you strictly like a specific sound - that's great (in this case the so called trve kvlt black metal), but requiring from people to sound in a certain way is strange. Frost is more black metal than you, I can tell you that. Why? Cause black metal and the idea behind it, is freedom. Which is something you do not have - you are a slave of the idea that something should sound a certain way. Look at Fenriz, Varg Vikkernes - they are not making trve kvlt black metal anymore too. Just like Frost.
