I went to Nimbin in 2011 and loved it so much that I cried when I left. The first couple of days in town I had my 14 yr old son with me & nobody approached me. Then I went into town on my own & was offered a smoke straight away, behind the old museum that burnt down. I loved that museum. It was a wonderful holiday for me 🥰

Pre the "hippy" invasion of Nimbin, it really was an idyllic little country town. My ancestors were pioneers & prominent business people of the town, As a sidenote, Tenterfield holds a special place in my heart as it's my birthplace.

i ran away to Nimbin as a young teen 15 years old. they had a huge festival, was about 1985 I think, I stayed for a couple of years. there was definetely a hippy culture that looked after me safely, as well as some great locals who farmed and always gave me somewhere to stay and eat. The outer areas where full of little settlements, in the forest. The swimming hole down behind the shops was wonderful. I miss those days

Well ive been wanting to go to Nimbin for years and hope to soon. As im 71 now, i better not leave it much longer. Im a bit disappointed you never had a lot more Nimbin content, i was expecting a full episode on Nimbin, the people, the town surroundings, Showgrounds tour etc. So to only see video footage of the main street was disappointing.

I used to go to Nimbin a lot traversing between Brisbane , Queensland and Melbourne ! It’s a very picturesque town with many creeks , waterfalls and rock pools flowing into the Murwillumbah river ! Every time I would park my car behind the shops across the road someone would be leaning against a tree trying to sell me whacky tobacky and when the cops came around on their patrols , would piss off and be back as soon as they were gone . Because you dressed differently they the dealers would think you were a smoker and sometimes would bail you up on main street ! I haven’t been there in years and tried to get work and live there but it is such a tourist town and very close knit ! I used to talk to the indigenous there and I love the giant painted python in the park down from the pub there ! There are great rock formations such as Nimbin Rocks and Dough Boy ! And the great scenery and small country towns that winde their way through the mountain side from Lismore ! I guess the Wild rock formations start from Byron Bay and work their way up ! Byron Bay is a trap at least you don’t get caught in traffic conditions in Nimbin !

I bought Nan and Hugh Nickolson's plant and tree identification books many years ago, not knowing their fame. Then I read about Terania Creek. What a brilliant result for the people and the forest.

Nice one! I love that part of Oz and have many friends in the area. Also great reporting on Terania. Maybe you'd be interested in doing an episode in the Daintree-Bloomfield area, which had similar action a few years later in the blockade to stop a road being built through the Daintree forest. It ended up going through but the massive attention and support for the protest helped achieve World Heritage protection of the area.

Best treatment for itchy bites is to use a “nail brush” or soft brush on the bite, this will prevent you breaking the skin, the itch will soon stop as brushing the skin confuses the nerve endings!

We went to Nimbin in 2016, on the way back from Canberra to Brisbane. I have lots of food allergies, and back then finding something to eat in NSW was almost impossible. We thought Nimbin would be a good place to find gluten and dairy free food. We got there about 5 pm, all cafes were shut up for service.

You need a lot more solar. When it's hot and you need to run the A/C, it is likely to be sunny. I reckon an additional 300W panel or maybe even two additional panels will leave the battery untouched through the day while you run the A/C.

I was at The Channon for the 20 year anniversary of the Terrania Creek protests. Met so many of Australia's OG environmental heroes, the enlightened and selfless souls who stood up for a truly beautiful patch of subtropical rainforest. Spent a night up by Protesters Falls and that little carpark at the end of the road has become one of my top five favourite road trip camp sites because it reminds me so much of home in Far North Queensland. Well worth a detour if I do one south of the border, now I have a connection to the history of the place. It's a good story to tell, to remind ourselves good people standing together can make a huge difference.

In 2001 I visited Nimbin. I remember I had pizza for dinner and how it was the best pizza I had ever had. The herbs on it were amazing. Years later, I laughed about it. Nimbin..best herbs...🤣 But, I never felt high after eating that yummy pizza. I had tried marijuana before so was able to recognise the doped out feeling. I didn't experience any of that from eating that pizza. It just WAS the best pizza I had ever had up to that point in life and ever since then as well. What they put on that pizza I will never know. Whatever it was, it sure was yummy.

The pub in Nimbin is great. Great place to get lunch and a beer. Several years ago, I road my bike to Nimin and walked three blocks and was approached three times by people wanting to sell me pot. Not interested, nothing new for me to learn there. 🙂 I've been back a few times, I live just over the border, and they might have put a broom through the place, doesn't seem to happen anymore. The shops are very hippy, probably the greatest selection of bongs in Australia. It's all a bit of a laugh, nice place, fantastic scenery.

I was born in Nimbin and we lived at Turntable Falls where my father was a timber hauler and my mother was a teacher at Nimbin Central School. My 85 yo aunt still lives in Nimbin (in a house where she has bars on her windows to stop “people” breaking in - fabulous lifestyle for the elderly). Fortunately my parents left Nimbin before the disgusting invasion took place. It is dirty and if you’re lucky you should see people defecating in the gutters while you’re in town. 🤮🤧😷

The mosquitoe coils work well by placing them outside the caravan door. Place them safely on the ground near the doors window ect. They don’t kill mozzies but will keep them away, this does work but don’t put them inside your van, tent they smell pretty bad and will make you feel a bit something cool if you inhale it to much.

Good tip for mozzies, if you take over the counter antihistamines (fexofenadine is the best bcz non drowsy) theyll bite you but you won't feel their bites at all, won't turn into an itchy bump. Also I believe the bird whose song you didn't know is a whip bird, they have a crazy call

My first experience going to nimbin,we didn't get a chance to step out of the car,we had been offered big heads,i didn't know what the lady meant bye that,my friends knew what she was selling, thats how thick i was, then walking through town heads out the pubs windows asking you want a joint, feral kids roaming the street drunk n high on weed, what an experience,an eye opener, next we went to the cafe to have a cuppa ,would you like some homemade marajawana biscuits,no thanks just normal please, however it is a nice little town,a good laugh,i did enjoy my day outing from the Goldcost hour n a half drive ,i recommend anyone to go there honestly especially if you are pot smoker, you are free smoking it without being harrassed, theres even a police station there, but make sure you don't get stopped leaving Nimbin with a stash, yep you will find coppers are waiting on your way out hehehe

I've been to Nimbin twice in my life. The first time I hadn't even finished parking my car before I had some druggie asshat semi-startle me through the window, desperately trying to sell me drugs before the next dealer got to me. . I swore I'd never go back. But, ten years went by, I was in a new relationship and we went up to Byron for a holiday and whilst we were there she decided she wanted to see Nimbin. I told my new girlfriend what happened the first time, but conceded it was a while ago and that I should give it a chance. So we went. Rocking up to Nimbin the second time I hadn't even finished parking my car before I had some druggie asshat semi-startle me through the window, desperately trying to sell me drugs before the next dealer got to me. Never again.
