I consider myself an intermediate/advanced knitter and have made several pairs of gloves in the past. This tutorial is the most helpful information I have ever seen anywhere. It includes marvelous techniques to address all the classic problems of glove design, which nearly all other patterns just skip over. Thank you, Norman! One additional tip I tried while making gloves according to this tutorial is to knit the purls and slip the knit stitches in the transition row between ribbing and stockinette fabric where the cuff meets the hand. Just a little touch to complement all of Norman's beautiful design features!!

Dear Norman Thank you for your great service. I like to tell you that I learned from you a few very beautiful things and see what I came up with. I got those little stich markers I love, and separated the stitches for the fingers holding the stitches for each finger in a different color. This way found makes the finger knitting so comfortable. Instead of adding stitches by knitting 3 stiches, I used the adding stiches method you chose, to add for the thumb " bridge* which helps me avoid the holes in a way easier for me. Thanks your precious teachings ❤️

Hi Norman. Thank you so much for making these tutorials. I so appreciate your linear approach to fixing common knitting problems and watching your videos has improved the quality of my knitting tenfold. As it applies to this video, I’ve been unable to master using DPs and my attempt to use them here, to knit the pinky finger, quickly became disastrous. Instead of using DPs, I used three (3) circulars, shorter in length, which for me, I found significantly easier to manage. For example, ChiaoGoo makes a 9" circular that allowed the stitches to easily sit on the wire, as well as, both sides to sit close together, which eliminated creating “ladders” that frequently occur when using the magic loop method.

Thanks so much. I've been looking for a video that explains how to do the left hand's offset thumb. I was trying to guess how to do that with magic loop which is the way i chose to learn knitting in the round so now I'm ready to try by not doing those initial 2 stitches like on the right hand. instead after listening to you i think for magic loop I should knit around and stop (with worsted weight) about 3 stitches before the end of the back needle with both needles parallel as always with magic loop. I was pretty nervous to try this. With your video I'm ready to give it a shot :) I love magic loop as I can, and do continue the thumb with them and it works fine in case anyone feels like trying it. Thank you Norman! I do enjoy your instructions. I am working on a pair of mitts and have come to the segment to begin a thumb gusset. The instructions read M1, M1, pm then continue with one round of pattern. I believe you clarified it for me that a M1 also includes a K1 before the second M1. 🧤🧤🧤🥊 oops haha StitchedbyMimi

Thankyou I've received my free glove pattern looking forward to knitting them on dpns. I usually make gloves on 2 needles
@NimbleNeedles2 жыл бұрын
Gloves or mittens? But sure, you could try this pattern with circular as well 🤔
@Helga0512 жыл бұрын
@@NimbleNeedles I've used circular needles the only thing I'm not great with having to do maths 😕 to measure and work out stitches???
@NimbleNeedles2 жыл бұрын
@@Helga051 that certainly is not the easiest task. But it's a very necessary one. Just compare your hands with your friends and you will quickly notice that they are all quite different. So, if you ask me, knitting well fitting gloves without measuring and trying on is quite impossible
@Helga0512 жыл бұрын
@@NimbleNeedles well said .I actually borrowed a knitting/crochet book from my library that show you how to do all the measurements yay.

Great gloves and instructions, you are a perfectionist! However, I think I'll start off with a pair of mittens....

Absolutely love your video tutorials! Hard to find a comprehensive techniques which are also easy and in a way common sensed. I am myself also a continental knitter, the only difference are my purl stitches, I do them in 'combination" style, it works easier for me and I am pretty fast at purling. This style makes knit stitches reversed mount on the needle, I always have to keep that in mind when pattern calls for SSK, since those stitches already in SSK position. I would love you to make a tutorial for a pattern calculation for a basic crew/V neck sweater. It is almost impossible to find a custom fit pattern which has no "droopy" shoulders. That is why I would resort to raglan sleeve only, besides raglan makes it easy to knit with no seems when it is done in a round.

Good morning from California! Just found you a few days ago and now a new subscriber. I’m excited about all your knowledge. I really want to learn how to make gloves, (maybe mittens first ☺️). Can’t wait to watch a few times to learn. Thank you 💕💃🏻

Hey there. Welcome to my channel! Yes, mittens might be a bit easier to start out. Or you try gloves and if you don't like the look, you just unravel the fingers and continue according to any mitten pattern :) Up until the palm, things are pretty much the same, after all.

Fantastically in-depth and meticulous, as always. I'm not going to lie, I am still a bit intimidated by gloves, but this video with the tips and tricks makes me think that I might actually be able to make a pair :)

it sure is an advanced pattern - so take your time and go slowly, if you decide to start a pair.

awesome. I think gloves are similar to socks. You have to do it once to fully understand the process and then you can go about on optimizing the thing.

Yeah, but I feel such basic patterns shoudl be available for free because not everyone can afford a pattern. And besides, those that want to support my work, can always buy me a coffee. I always put a link in the description and as the first comment :)

This is one of the most detailed instruction videos for knitting I've found - for free - and I absolutely appreciate all the effort that went into it. Everything is explained very nicely and clearly. It's easy to follow. And I love that the video lends itself to basically any hand sizing, weird or not. So again, thank you. You've definitely acquired a new subscriber
@NimbleNeedles2 жыл бұрын
aww...thank you nicole for appreciating my efforts. And I do have to say, I pondered quite a lot beforehand how I can accomodate different hand configurations. Because if look around even in just my small family, we got missing digits, crooked digits, digits that cannot be bent, fat fingers because of certain medical conditions, and so on. Now certainly a video can only be so long and not everything can be accounted for..but I at least tried to present a start :)
@michaelposey33212 жыл бұрын
This is so perfect! I’ve been thinking about making gloves cause bought ones don’t accommodate my bent pinky. Great excuse to get started!

that's exactly the reason why I presented this more as a recipe. But do feel free to come back if you need help figuring out your pinky finger

NORMAN: Very nice look today, with the hat and the hair! I'm really looking forward to watching this particular video. I've knit a few pair of mittens, even using fair isle, but gloves SCARE ME. All those fiddly little fingers. I know, I know: thumbs don't scare me, so four more fingers shouldn't scare me -- but they DO. It's an unreasonable fear, so I suppose I have glovephobia. 😨😨As the hat I've been knitting has turned out to be a bit too snug, and so needs frogging 😭😭, I may just knit a pair of gloves to soothe my shattered soul (what? no shattered-soul emoji?). Hey; the hat was tricolor fair isle, and I was nearly finished before I noticed the size. That's soul shattering!

oh noe...take it slowly tho. And remember that you can always try a work in progress on to see if it fits the way you want it to fit.
