NIMONA Movie Review | Oscars 2024 | Netflix | Animation

I loved Nimona. It emotionally moved me more than any other movie from 2023 (and I saw over 75 movies). If it were up to me it would win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, although I think the race is between Across the Spiderverse and Boy and the Heron.

it's because it's more 2d than 3d. Which is far superior medium! Why wait to render, when you can draw it. OH WOW! Bluesky, a bit of odd trivia, on Ice Age they used C++ to render, instead of Pixar's Renderman which is what every film uses to render out it's digital work. I always deeply admire Bluesky for always trying. Seriously, an animation studio in upstate New York. Because even now, it does seem a lot of these films are trying to same thing, these guys are really going in a different direction.

I was the single person seeing it at the IFC Center in NYC though I had to navigate most of the closure of 6th Ave to get there as the 2023 Gay Pride Parade was aslo taking place. It differs from ND Stevenson' graphic novel. But that's fine. You should read it if you have the chance. It's my number 3 favorite movie of 2023.

I was really moved by the end of 'Nimona'. My favourite this year story-wise. But 'Robot Dreams' is really good, too.

It was great for the first half of the movie but I had the feeling that it was gonna fall for one my most hated tropes with western animation stories AND it did so 3 stars out of 5

I loved the thematic material, but the storytelling didn’t do it for me. I really wished this one worked on all levels bc I do think there are so many great pieces.

I don't think this movie should have been nominated for Best Animated Feature. It's so generic. I wish Suzume would have gotten in instead of Nimona or Elemental.
