She was expressing her soul in this song. The fact that she was really misunderstood because of her bipolar disorder make this song hit different.

What we all dont understand is that we are ALL Bipolar ...just like Nina Simone. Problem is most people pretend like they have it all figured out but we all have a hint of angry and a hint of crazy...some a little bit less or more than the other. .. lol

I miss her. She was immensely talented. One of the greats who was so underrated. Her voice was like misty smoke and her interpretation of songs was just unbelievably good.
Had this song played at the beginning of my Dad's funeral service. He believed in tough love, but in later years expressed regrets over his actions and words. The songs lyrics and beautiful delivery, was a fitting part of a tribute to him. If any one song summed him up it was that one. Fifteen years on I still miss him along with his flaws that we all have. That is unconditional love. On reflection perhaps your parents are the few people in your life who truly understand and care about you. Show them compassion. They do their best with what they had and knew at the time. Parenting's not easy, sometimes we have to look back at our childhood and remember that ?

Currently processing my dad's diagnosis of terminal cancer at 62 years old. Life for and with him has always been difficult, but I can see now he is one of the few people that "gets it". I can't tell you how relevant your comment is to me right now. Thank you

@@jessicad2999 I'm sorry to read about the situation that you are in. However, it was kind of you to acknowledge my comment upon Nina Simone's track "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and what it meant to me and my relationship with my Dad. Like you say of yours my life with him had its ups and downs. Though since he's passed I never realised how much he really had my best interests at heart things he said and did that I never "got" back then. Sometimes you have to value being in the moment with those you love, as he told me often, "I won't be here forever" We are all different, but I hope you are able to value this time you get with your Dad - it will be the best gift he will ever receive from you, your time, care and love when he needs it the most ? I'm sure that he is proud of you Jessica - wherever you are may unconditional love shine down on you both with your time left spent together.

I'm on Merseyside, though wherever we are in the world, despite our individual uniqueness we all feel and show similar emotions when grieving a loved one. Whether be family or not. honestly to me both songs definitely have their right to exist. Nina Simone is one of the great-great but her songs existing doesn't mean the music industry can't (amd shouldn't) development different a couple decades later. "Dontgetit" by Lil Wayne is a beautiful song. I just wish the artists had to mark who they took their work from
@VERSOULmusic4 жыл бұрын
@Bill Jones So you don't support new artists who create and not imitate? Or do you just like to stay stuck in your box assuming all new artists are imitating? Because, I'm sure that you wouldn't be talking shit if you actually KNEW, and supported music and artistry that IS authentic, and even still realizing that there are legends and icons who have ALWAYS gotten inspiration from PREVIOUS icons and legends or even helping someone to become a legend by getting influenced by a classic and bringing it up as they evolve.
@VERSOULmusic4 жыл бұрын
@Bill Jones I like to believe if you actually are a truthful person who truly loves music and art, you wouldn't be a hypocrite to insinuate or even think with your tiny mind that 'new'/today's artists don't create. Or maybe it's also what you even consider an artist. I guess it's all in your head. This is just your opinion, as is ours or mine is to you. I'm just sayin, you asked for this response. Maybe you didn't think it would come. You just seem very small minded to me, basing your judgement on a category you're making up in your mind and not even going deeper to actually discover the evolution and staying negative and pessimistic, must be fun to be you. However, I never do this and respond to petty comments, but eh i figured why not, silence is violence right. Have a great whateva

"Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" is a song written by Bennie Benjamin, Horace Ott, and Sol Marcus for the singer and pianist "Nina Simone", who recorded its first version in 1964. "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" To some, this version of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" carried the subtext of the Civil Rights Movement that concerned much of Simone's work of the time The mid-60s were a time of pure turmoil for this country & this song may reflect just that. My dad's still alive, and I always want to share this with him, though I feel awkward for some reason. Even though he loves Nina Simone. I've never felt he didn't love me, but the way he is has always been tough too. It's nice to find a song that understands that some people, even many, can do harm without having any ill will. And can struggle with themselves for not coming across as they mean to, no matter how they wish they could. There's a lot I understand about him that I'm not willing to share, it's not really our way. But I want him to know there are somethings I get, no matter our problems.I still love him, and somethings will always be hard to talk about. But how can't I love him? Some differences, you can only navigate.

So many people are realizing their purposes here on earth,and I feel that for so many it has been at the detriment of our families and friends. It's really painful to see what once linked to something semi perfect has now called you to open your eyes and 😖 see where the true difference is or rather the shine. Many doors will close but that is only so the others will open in the way that your life( not as in numbers) experiences will further assist you down the way so you're fortunate and blessed in your own belief learn to put down walls and boundaries so that your heart's desires ( highest self soul) can let in abundance where it needs to be ,not necessarily $ .I hope that you find peace you will only get this by connecting to source,God,your higher self remember to not 🚫 remember victim mentality because remembering it was the program .I hope that makes sense if it doesn't take a few looks at it again with a new perspective.Peace and Love, 💜🦋

@@liftedbodhisattva Thanks, I think I understand you well, you're right, I believe in God, only a relationship with Him can set me free, with each passing year I feel that only God can fully understand me. Exactly, there are a lot of songs that just cannot be covered by other people. Nina Simone's voice actually strikes the soul. That said, the best cover song of all time in my opinion is Johnny Cash's Hurt.
@poojaye9 жыл бұрын
Cause she likes the song. She takes inspiration from them . Having an artist cover another artists song is really a compliment to the original one. And the cover i believe is a means to interpret it in a way you feel not copying. Their voices are so distinct and unique. I love lana del rays cover songs and that s how i came to know about these great artists ! :) :) thanks for reading ...
@robbie94599 жыл бұрын
Because some people love to hear Lana sing and if we get to hear what she'll be singing before her version is out, that excites us. Lana's not trying to one-up anyone, especially Nina Simone. This song is very relevant to her life and she respects Nina, so that's why she's covering it and we're excited for her.

Why? What is missing in you? Find a course. Find something. This trite comment of yours is going to bring you down. Stop. No. Just experience life. You will never find meaning in your notifications. If Nina Simone made any difference in your life or the world at large, you, we would experience it as it was, is. Not in some "I need validation" moment, a "I am better then those I dislike" or an elitist take on the world as you see it. Please hear what she said everytime she had a chance to speak directly to you, us. It is to embrace, to love. Not to single out the outliers or the elites. Be better for those who come after you. If someone listened to this 10 years ago or 20 years in the future when eventually used to sell use something we don't need. It is the joy brought to to us all, at anytime, for whatever reason, to experience this expression of emotion. Please stop disparaging others because they have not caught up with what you consider taste, it is the worst undertone society has to offer itself. Your validation is not needed, you are an important person to everyone that has taken the time to know you. You have so much to offer, and freely give to the important people in your life, get what you need from them or from life, you will find bleakness looking from within or from strangers. Step out of the echo chamber and live your life like those who came before you would have wanted you to live, on your terms, at your leisure. Not what others think.

"Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" sang by Nina, has a strong meaning of analyzation that seems like begging for understanding & no assumptions. I think everyone have a badside to them that needs remorse for making mistakes as a human with emotions & not to be looked at, the wrong way. Then, it comes as an apology that no matter what decision is made. I guess, it's still believe you're Angel. I love the 😍song after analyzing the lyrics. I was driven into the lyrics to completely understand. I felt touched by the song I felt I was reliving those same emotions of trials & Tribulations. Tyler Perry used this song for the movie "Acrimony." Thanks for singing Nina.♥️
