Rainy day, candles, a glass of wine, and a great stereo system pulling the best from it. That's Nina Simone time.

She was a wonderful, one of a kind artist, with a fascinating back-story. Seeing her in concert was awesome, how she could be playing one melody and singing another, I still can't figure how that is possible . She was the original diva..she could be really abrasive and didn't suffer fools gladly.

More Nina please. This is a beautifully simple song but you'll find she made a lot of powerful ones too, like 'Sugar in My Bowl' and 'Strange Fruit'.

This is why your channel stands out from the rest... You branch out and try all genres! ❤ Love that voice. Love Big Band (what my grandparents loved). Popcorn analogy... ❤️ Can see myself just lying on the front room floor , laying by the speakers with string lights on or my timer candles on, this on full blast. Some parts of piano solo reminded me of Peanuts music. My friends and I go to Twilight Jazz by the Lake - this is my favorite type! Thank you for bringing this!!!! That debate at the end is way to long a conversation... That belongs on Nick's Real Life views. 😂. Nat King Cole - Feels Like Being in Love Frank Sinatra - You Can't Take That Away from me Babe Mason - Play it Again Bing Crosby - I'll Be Seeing You

I think what makes her sound so unique is 2 musical aspects, her strong but smooth voice and her jazz piano with classical tinges. Her playing reminds me of Dave Brubeck, very classical music-influenced.

I love this! You have to hear Nina Simone’s version of “Feeling Good.” It is amazing and shows off her chops as a singer. BTW, I would also love it if you reacted to Steve Perry’s “She’s Mine.”

"Ain't Got No (I Got Life) -Nina Simon" this is a live performance. Nina was an amazing artist. My aunt used to love her tunes, and I grew up listening to a lot of her music. I'm also a North Carolinian too. And there has been some pretty amazing artists that came from NC. Fun reaction fellas thanks for sharing ❤

Nina was originally trained as a classical pianist and later switched. Her cover of "Feelin' Good" (written by Anthony Newley who also wrote "Who Can I Turn To" and "Candy Man") is the most copied arrangement of the song. After her, every performer who performs the song does her arrangement. Her original versions of "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", "Mississippi Goddamn", and "Sinnerman" are musts...and yes, that is Central Park on the cover.

There's a song by the Welsh band, The Stereophonics, called: 'step on my old size 9's and I'll take you round'. It's a guy telling his girl to keep dancing - and it always makes me think of this track

Another jazz icon to check out is Ella Fitzgerald. Three songs to recommend are "Blue Skies" which really showcases her singing style, "A Fine Romance" the definitive version of this classic song, & "Remember" which she sings in 2 different styles. Another jazz group to check out is Manhattan Transfer, recommend listen to "Study in Brown". With both of these artists vocals are the main thing. Thanks for the reactions to Steely Dan & Al Stewart!

Yes. Must listen to more Nina Simone like Feeling Good, Sinnnerman, and Mississippi Goddam by her. Fetal brain development is enhanced by listening to classical music in the womb, also cows produce more milk playing classical music in the barn. Another iconic jazz piece you should listen to is Take Five by Dave Brubeck.

Been wondering where the ladies at too! Was going to suggest Lana del Rey's new single A&W or for something old Joni Mitchell's Edith & the kingpin. One of the first things they mentioned is that "It's calming," and "It's peaceful." I wanted to share that the key of A Nina uses here (in fact all of the keys past F-natural) are the "cool" keys. From C to F are the "warm" keys (C beginning the spectrum as fire: red). So, recorded in A, which i see and indigo/blue-violet, I see the lower note from this A-flat is pure, cold, blue, and also spherical in shape. A-flat is the most distant sounding note, and I always here A-flat (the note itself) as twinkling stars. What's interesting is that in ALL of here live recordings of this song she lowers the song from A (blue-violet) to A-flat (blue). Blue is psychologically calming, and i believe that A-flat does the same thing, though when I try to argue this certain types of musicians get really annoyed--even enraged, saying that's it's New Age BS. A final note on A-flat/blue is to compare this to Sting's "Every Breath You Take" where Stings sings that he will follower her "every breathe you take, every move you make, I'll be watching you." Sting actually wrote this song while stalking his ex wife, driving around her apartment where she moved in with her new boyfriend. "Every Breath You Take" is even loosely known as the "Stalker Song." If we compare the lyrics we see that Nina is sining not TO her man, but simply about him. Therefore she is removed in her thoughts. And this mood of reflection and observation is conjured up emotionally by A-flat in her live recordings. A-natural is a violet-blue, and still retains some of the effect of blue (A-flat), but A is more about expansion or sort of moving with or being carried by something. Incidentally, on my own paige here I have taken this track in A and converted it to A-flat experience here incredible studio recording in the same key she chose to sing it live. The key of blue. Be well! - _The Acoustic Rabbit Hole_
@Acoustic-Rabbit-Hole
@Acoustic-Rabbit-Hole 8 ай бұрын
Also, they guys were mentioning about the "scary" or "creepy" sort of feel of the song. This is actually accurate because A-flat is also the key of death. Cold, frozen, icy blue; the coldness of space itself and the twinkling stars that bare it. Singing in A-flat is to BE a twinkling star. But when someone sings to you from beyond, then, yes, that can be a scary thing. Ha.

Thanks 3 Amigos and Please don't forget the Bozz Scaggs man in Miss Sun I know you will be blown away for a 3rd time by his smoothness. 😎

It’s undoubtedly due to some flawed chromosome but I never learned to appreciate jazz. But she certainly sounds like she was a trailblazer on many levels. And her voice was uniquely beautiful. I love not only the diversity of the music played on this channel but also your genuine appreciation for all forms of music. It can be infectious at times 😊 So, this seems like a good time to offer some suggestions. 1. Molly Hatchet - Dreams I’ll Never See. Way different from Flirtin’ With Disaster but just as good. It has a bit of a sexy rhythm to it. And a great Southern Rock guitar solo. 2. Dirty Honey - Rolling 7’s 3. The Blue Stones - Shakin’ Off The Rust
