I am born on 1957...before ilaiyaraja came into Tamil cinemain 1976, in my home town mostly Hindi songs were popular though non of us can understand. Atleast in 5 theatres Hindi films used to be screen out of 50 around that time. After ilaiyaraja came, Hindi songs and films vanished in entire Tamil nadu. Now over 200 theatres in Madurai and one or two Hindi films are screened...occasionally. Tamil industry is around 20 years ahead of Bollywood in every aspect.
