Rory & Robin. Thank you for sharing your stories, not enough people express the importance for skaters to wear a helmet. As a 22 year old, I wear mine every time i get on my board, they wont prevent all concussions from impacts with the ground but it will for sure prevent your skull from cracking. I totally understand the notion some skaters have of the added danger that comes with no helmet riding, may spike the adrenaline enough to sharpen skating... but is that added risk worth it? I say no way, but ive had plenty of head injuries in the past to help sway my opinion. Hopefully someone reads these comments and goes out to snag a helmet.. i just got a brand helmet called “thousand” & it rocks. Keep skating brothers & sisters

I super manned onto my head when I was 14, had a seizure. Back in '96, just hit a pebble the usual haha. Only one I've ever had. Friends used a water hose to snap me out of it, I was fully aware and thought i was gonna drown. Broke my collarbone. Was back skating a month later. Never wore a helmet but it def doesnt bother me if someone else does. To each his own.

Oh and I’m almost positive Andy wears the helmet to bring awareness to the potential for TBI’s without a helmet because of/for a fellow Canadian who got really really messed up skating without one. Kinda bummed how Dubs was shitting on it and making it seem like there’s something wrong with it. I wouldn’t be caught dead with a helmet on but nothing but respect for Andy for wearing his. Think of the sponsors/sponsorship money he misses out on because of that. I’ve been a fan of Andy for a few years now. He is fucking uber talented and refreshingly original in a sea of followers and yes men and still hasn’t wavered on his values or how he skates. How can you not be a fan/supporter?

A buddy of mine in like 2002 was trying a nollie tail down the small rail at the denver park back when the ground was like an inch paraffin wax and he landed in a powerslide and slid back and smacked his head on the bottom step. Started convulsing and kept smacking it repeatedly until the ambulance arrived. It was super gnarly because he was bleeding out of his nose and ears and shit. He was told to basically keep a helmet on for the rest of his life because another head injury could kill him. The irony is that when I first met him he was the 14 year old kid who wore a helmet constantly to any street or park spot we went to. He went several years without it before the injury but still, pretty life changing event for him.
