Suciu 100% SOTY. As for the question of SOTY or Olympic Medal.. Not even a question. Skateboarding has and always will be about self expression. Coming up back in the day no one except my peers respected what we were doing, so why now should we accept that recognition. Not that it isn't progression laid by all those that have come after, but that medal isn't going to let you skate that spot any longer. SOTY is recognition by the only judging body that matters, those pushing the art form and the ones living the life.

When they discussed what is more of a pull for winning SOTY: Winning at the Olympics or recognition and respect for the very hard work/dedication to street skating, here's where the answer is: If winning the Olympics wasn't a big enough reason to get his own pro model shoe, it shouldn't be big enough to make him SOTY. Here me out: look at the skaters with pro shoes out, even with Mason Silva whom maybe got a colorway(maybe not) for winning SOTY. Yes i personally believe street parts are worth more than a contest because anyone could have a good/bad day, and it takes just one mistake to go from first to last. And the Olympics were almost a very over glorified SLS stop, but filming a part can take as little or long as you want, and the makes can be done as many times as needed to look as one wishes. When the part comes out, thats yours to own as the blood, sweat, and tears of your talent where you're "not suppose" to skate in society's eyes, yet youve come through to showcase amazing tricks at equally amazing spots. And in Yuto's case, he is both a great street skater and contest skater, and in Japan he is now blowing up HUGE for his Olympic win. Why not capitalize on that with a shoe? Dude's put in the work, and the sales would be great, even with those whom dont skate as hes an icon in Japan right now, and has lots of fans in skating...yet Nike isnt considering a shoe for him. So if its not enough to get a shoe on Nike compared to those with shoes and why they have them, it shouldn't be treated as anything more than another contest win. However, if he does get SOTY as it would have an underlying motive (possibly paid for by Nike) to glorify him especially in Japan as "the skater who won gold, also won as SOTY", it would do nothing but good for Nike especially with him skating Jordans and being able to continue to sell those without royalties to Yuto...everyone wins. And dont anyone come tell me "SOTY isnt rigged/doesnt have underlying motives"...be smarter than that. Yes a LOT of SOTY winners earned it, however some didnt seem to be that way.

You say that as if we’ve been weighing golds against street parts for years. The current situation we’re in has only been the case for what, 5-6 months? There’s no telling how the overlap of street skaters winning metals will effect our overall view points in like 10 years out from now. I wouldn’t put too much doubt out there. I don’t say that in favor of it, but we as a community tend to integrate new things fairly comfortably and easily.

The Olympics aren’t that important to skater of the year one contest doesn’t make you soty. Like Phelps said about Chris Cole he won all the contest the berrics flat ground challenge and most importantly killed it in the streets all year long. Every soty I’ve know to get it is what they did in the streets that year. And Yuto with that nollie 3 front board on Hollywood high with the whole part he put out is something to put him in the running. To thrasher it’s all about the streets Phelps said it best in bust or bail intro “We’re about skating here and now!”

Honestly I think Soty is worth a lot more than Olympics. The Olympics are heavily overrated these days. Looks at their football and basketball teams you don't have serious pros playing in the Olympics.
