That's what I love about Lego the most. Not specialized parts for a single build, but standard parts going wild.

Although it may be too complex for the average builder I truly believe that if this set was released on the LEGO ideas, it would be a sensation to say the least. I have seen plenty of clock mechanisms but none like this. I am amazed and would encourage you to please sell instructions. Absolutely brilliant!

Thanks for your kind words, I feel honoured. Unfortunately the auto-instructions are completely worthless. I built it apart from them but nevertheless the construction was everything else than a pleasure. Everything needed to be minutiously adjusted, sometimes I had to bend bricks and the date function is error-prone. I´m about to make a new, flawless clock soon. Stay tuned! Greetings!

if it only lasts for 30 minutes it kinda beats the purpose of it being a clock... Think you can find a way to increase that limit? Also don't get me wrong that clock is really freaking awesome though!
@niclasgraetz42324 жыл бұрын
It´s ment to be a mechanical creation to challenge myself not a working 24/7 clock. The escapement has too much inertia. But a several hour clock is a nice idea for a future project. I appreciate your comment!
@Fogolol4 жыл бұрын
@@niclasgraetz4232 I understand. But if you need some inspiration for that future project, there's some guy that had a clock that, although it was simpler, it worked for 3 days straight before requiring to recharge it was used for entire year before the wear of the legos started to show kzbin.info/www/bejne/m36XcodrpMRgjsU

Awesome! Can you make a gyro-tourbillon clock as well? Also I would like to know what is the best PC program to simulate LEGO Technic, now since Lego Digital Designer was replaced by Bricklink Studio, which doesn't have the simulation part? Is there a freeware or even affordable LEGO CAD program that supports physics simulation?
@niclasgraetz4232 Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I once tried making a gyro. But the two main problems were: the escapement mechanism itself (a pendulum escapement is much easier to realise than a watch escapement) and the immense amount of torque needed to sustain the motion. Lego bearings unfortunately create a lot of friction... But that would be a welcome challenge! I didn't simulate the clock before. I simply constructed the individual mechanisms with spare parts and put everything together. But if you find a good solution please let me know! Best, Niclas
@StarshipCaptainNemo Жыл бұрын
@@niclasgraetz4232 ok, I found some triple-axis tourbillons on LEGO IDEAS. maybe they work after all. but I didn't see anyone making a watch or clock from it. From 3Dprinting sites I got the hint to use a cylindrical or spherical spring, which is obviously then not a LEGO part but a 3D Printed part.

How were you able to do the coaxial arms? I see the "outer" gear and the arm (from both clocks), but I fail to see how they are connected to each other. Are they glued??
@niclasgraetz42322 жыл бұрын
The second hand is directly connected to the mainshaft coming form the escapement system. The minute hand is indeed fixed to the dark blueish grey 16 teeth gear. There are some old parts that would fit those axial slots in the grey gear, but they would have decreased the overall appearance.

Fantastic work! If you were to sell these, how much would you sell them for, and how practical would it be to build one that runs for a couple days without resetting?
@niclasgraetz42324 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words. This version only has a duration of about 30min per one meter drop length. The escapements inertia is too large to effectively improve the powertrain. It needs to be overlooked and will be done some day. But currently I´m working on a different LEGO clock which will be released asap :)

Schönes Teil. Sowas sollte Lego mal als offizielles Set rausbringen. Die Hemmung hat etwas Spiel: der Anker fällt zu früh vom Palettenstein, was man am unregelmäßigen Ticken hört.
@niclasgraetz42324 жыл бұрын
