This one blew me away the first time I listened to it. The main reason was because it sounds nothing like the rest of the songs from The Fragile. I don't know how to describe it, really. I hope Trent releases this with vocals someday. Hell, even a multitrack would be killer.

Such a beautifully tortured soul, I can just imagine Trent sitting down by himself, leaning over the studio at 3am in the heat of the moment, the "creative hours" completely absorbed & wrapped up in his aligning musical, tone & rhythm space, mixing & putting all the parts together while trying his best to get the right sounds & feeling right for this tune, it's just amazing.😎😎👍😎😎

BRILLIANT! How this song escaped the original cut of the fragile will forever be one of life's great mysteries...
@DocteurRipeur5 жыл бұрын
It took a really long time to put The Fragile together. Reznor brought in some help from an external producer (whose name escapes me ATM) to try to turn the mismatch of tracks into a coherent album (well…albumS). Therefore throwing away a lot of great material. Also bear in mind this is the follow up of the MASSIVE hit that was Downward Spiral and fans and producers alike wanted something as dark and angry as the previous album… which Trent obsiously wasn't planning to do. So I guess there's also a lot of compromises and a bit of fear that went into the making of the fragile. It took only 20 years for that pressure to fade away. That says a lot.

Trent has said in multiple interviews that he wanted the album to sound fragile and like it could fall apart at any time so he didn’t want to be too synth heavy, which may be the reason that this track isn’t on The Fragile. Still a sick track though

Jokes aside, I was not a fan of Trent's later all instrumental work after "The Fragile" (save for the soundtracks). But this is different and obviously being from "The Fragile" has that feel. I absolutely love "Just Like You Imagine"...it ranks in my top 10 NIN. This is working it's way up there as well... and, please call the authorities to rescue my ears.

I have solid lyrics for this that deliberately sound Fragile-era.. but I can't scream like Trent anymore. To be honest I never really could, it always sounded weaker because I was just frying my head voice or whatever. I wish I could capture Trent's voice from this era and reproduce them with AI just to sing my vocals for this thing. Trent's Blue microphone set-up was the punchiest and his vocals while recording the Fragile were the most intensely brutal and punchy I've ever heard from him. I might have to sing it myself but I already know the NIN fanbase won't particularly love that unless I can get past the uncanny valley of Trentness, lol.
