i too kept discovering new Sam songs and they all used to become my new favorite... i think the best one ever is a live version of Postcard (jerry run concert) and also a live version of trapeze swinger (kcrw) i have the pleasure of saying that i will be going to my very first I&W concert in Belgium on the 15th of Nov... after more than ten years of loyal listening. just keep doing what you do Sam, it's magic !

The end gives me chills everytime, this live version takes a song on the album that is so moving and changes the whole feeling behind it. Iron and Wine, Bon Iver, and Ray Lamontage give me hope for music. Peace be the Journey friends.

I disagree. I think it's incredibly sad. He mixes that inherent sadness of the lyrics w accompanying music that feels "safe", somehow. Together, it feels bittersweet, which is the best emotion.

@barrytam20 i agree with you 100% it also adds a kind of jam band feel to the song. Really like as i think sam is not credited enough with his musicianship and overall simplicity and catchiness to his chords and melodies

I'd love him to perform a studio album full of early songs played at quicker tempo, and with a full band, as he did with this. I love mellow Iron and Wine, but this version is so much better than the original.

Actually, if you listen to the lyrics carefully, it's a joyful song....not a somber one, and ther person that went WHOOO in the middle of the song.......maybe they were just feeling the power of the Holy Spirit, and you can't fault them for that. So much for tolerance.

This is easily my favorite rendition of the piece, but I wish the audience would shut the hell up. The most somber part of the song and some drunken loud mouth decides it would be a good time to yell at the top of her lungs. Who cheers at, "Cried 'til the morning?"
