Ok so let me destroy a few of your points: 1. In cricket only the wicket keeper wears gloves. No one else. While in baseball everyone does. You don't need the person standing towards the outer ring to wear a glove unless you don't know how to catch a ball. 2. It's not all about speed and the size of the bat. Cricket bat is wider because the ball bounces. Adding a lot of uncertainty over the trajectory of the ball. Much easier to predict if it's just in the air. Shoaib akhtars 100mph ball is hence much tougher to play and requires a higher reaction time (since the bounce is also unpredictable) than the 105mph ball coming at you dead straight as a bullet. These are two different sports. You can't compare apples to oranges.

@@jamescurran9002 baseball is easier
@jamescurran90023 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry... But this debate over which game is easier, can be settled scientifically and mathematically very easily. First, Have any of you read "Men at Work" by George Will? Read that before you embarrase yourselves further. That's just book. Easy to read. But first, we're talking about in one game, hitting the ball with a wide flat surface in a 360 degree field. As opposed to hitting a round ball 8n a 90 degree field. Right there , baseball wins the argument. But let's go further... In Cricket, you have 11 fielders in that 360 degree field. In baseball, there are 8 in a 90 degree. Therefore, the odds of the ball dropping between fielders is four times as great in Cricket as in Baseball. It would be the equivalent of 32 fielders in the circle. Again Baseball wins. In baseball, players are specialized by position. You don't have left fielders coming in to pitch. Why not? Because a left fielder, or a shortstop or any other position is not as good at pitching as a pitcher who does it full time, has studied his craft. In Cricket, everybody is a pitcher at some point....If they was any good, you'd only have the best one out there, not a collective. When's the last time you saw a Cricket player strike out? I mean take three swings and miss? Or even one swing? It rarely happens. That's because it's easier to make contact with a bowled ball . The percentages are almost infinitely higher in Cricket than Baseball. And I'll end with this... In Cricket ,there's only two stations to defend. In baseball there's four.much more complexity . The difference between a 2-1 count with a man on second base, and 0-2 count with a man on first can be expodential. Nuance...Baseball is a game of infinite nuance that can never be mastered. Cricket is nothing more than Home Run Derby.

Bawling is very hard in cricket and it make very thought to keep wicket for batsman. Hitting ball in baseball require more skills but keeping your wicket and making runs in cricket is significantly harder in cricket.
@wyattmund92863 жыл бұрын
I’d say in the short term it’s easier to score runs in Cricket. Look at average scores in Baseball, 5-3/2-4/6-1, etc. In Cricket, 234 could be a decent or poor first Innings score depending on context. A lot more “runs” happen in Cricket. I’d say though getting out is far more difficult in Cricket, and that losing a wicket is far more devastating in Cricket than getting a single out in Baseball. Baseball innings require 3 outs, and any given at-bat you are most likely going to be out even if you’re really good. Making it to base in the first place is really good, and unless you hit a home run, that’s all set-up for just 1 possible run. In Cricket, when you go to the crease as a batsman, you absolutely need to and are expected to score runs. Getting out for a duck is terrible and like hacking a limb off the batting order for that innings. You need to pull your weight, either in runs, rotating the strike, preserving the wicket, putting away bad balls and leaving good ones to wear down the ball and the pitch. Both sports are very difficult, but what makes them hard is quite difficult.

@adlilzafri23223 жыл бұрын
I have a few theories as to why every baseball player has to wear gloves. Keep in mind I've done zero research for this and you're welcome to call me out on my bullshit 1. For protection- Like the video said gloves are used to protect the fielders' hands not just from fly balls, but from throwing the ball to the other fielder. Imagine you have to catch a ball thrown by your teammate at 80+mph it's less dangerous if you caught it with a glove compared to catching with your bare hands. That's why positions like 1st base and catcher have thicker gloves because the ball is usually thrown to them the most. Not to mention that if a baseball is coming straight at a pitcher, he would have a better chance avoiding any injuries if he had a glove on. 2. Reduce errors- Cricket players have my utmost respect for being able to make bare handed catches, but let's not pretend they do it every time an opportunity presents itself. From what I've seen, runs are more frequent in cricket than baseball so they more often than not aren't able to consistently make those catches. 3. To hide pitches from the batter (pitchers only)- Pitchers wear gloves not only to catch but to hide the way they grip the baseball. If the batter can see the grip, they can know what type of pitch is coming and will be prepared for it and will likely hit a homerun. Just ask the Houston Astros.

Dude,thats because you get a 4 if you pass the boundary and 6 if you make it a over boundary in cricket
@ag-bf3ty3 жыл бұрын
That's a very bizarre statement to make since the points system is totally different. So you can't really talk about the ease of obtaining points, without factoring in that points have different values between the sports. You only get 1 Run in Baseball for completing a entire lap around diamond. Whereas in Cricket, you can get a Run for every time you run from wicket to wicket. A Home Run in Baseball is equivalent to a 6 in Cricket also, but one gives you 6 points and the other only gives 1 point. But even then it's complicated because you can score a lot of points in Baseball if the bases are loaded when the Home Run is hit, whereas the maximum you can score in Cricket is a 6 Run (which in terms of impact on the overall score of the game is significantly less than a Home Run with loaded bases.)

I am not fussed with which game is chosen, I have coached both for decades. In my experience baseball is great for teaching teamsmanship It is the only sport I know where there is an official statistic for a player sacrificing their turn at bat for the benefit of advancing a runner on base. There is a letter written by great Australian cricketer Victor Trumper in 1915 held in a Sydney Museum. It was written by a kid asking for advice on how to improve his cricket game. Victor recommended taking up baseball to help improve aspect such as focusing on the ball for hitting and especially elements of throwing and fielding. Both cricket and baseball are great sports, but in my personal opinion, cricket offers a wider range of variety in both batting and bowling. There are numerous different types of shots and various bowling styles in cricket. The argument that baseball's fastest pitch reached 105mph is impressive, but it would not be feasible for a baseball pitcher to reach the 100mph speed of a cricket bowler while adhering to the legal bowling action. In baseball, the ball doesn't touch the ground, and the pitcher throws it with full force by bending their elbow. In cricket, attaining top speed is much more challenging as compared to baseball. Bowlers are not allowed to bend their elbows, and the ball touches the ground during delivery. Despite these constraints, they can still bowl at speeds exceeding 95 mph, which is truly phenomenal when compared to baseball.

Nothing said about the effect the pitch has on a cricket ball. How a full pitched standard delivery in baseball is looked on as a " bad" ball in cricket. Cricket batsman have to constantly react to the varying bounce and deflection of the ball of the ground or pitch, both from fast and spin bowlers.
@billatkinson20773 жыл бұрын
Like the commentator said it is pointless trying to compare the two sports because they are so different. Top speeds of bowlers and pitchers are similar but the pitcher delivers the ball from around 10% or 6ft nearer the batter than in cricket so that reduces the batters reaction time. However the cricket batsman has to react to the ball being bowled into the pitch at varying speeds and distances from him. Imagine a baseball pitcher doing the same and the batter still trying to react to a ball rising at him off the ground. So how can you compare the two sports? Both have very different challenges and are entertaining in their own right.

@Parker P. It's a big bat because you're supposed to try to keep on and on batting. Cricket is not just about three swings. Cricket is way better cuz firstly, it's not that we make fun of safety measures, but it makes a lot more entertaining. Cricketers have to practice everyday to master fielding to be able to successfully catch the ball. While baseball players just have gloves which makes it a whole lot easier. A baseball ball is actually also a lot lighter and softer than a cricket ball so it even more impressive. Also, baseball is majorly played in only the USA. That's why there is no wc and even if there is, nobody cares cuz only usa playes. Cricket is the second biggest sport in the world, played in all South Asia like India, pak, sro Lanka, etc and also played in UK, Australia, South Africa, new Zealand, Netherlands, etc. Cricket is just more dangerous so it adds another significant twist to the game. It makes the sport harder.

This is how I know u only know about cricket and didn't even bother to look up where baseball is played, 1. Yes, MLB is the top league in baseball, as it is the NBA and NHL. But there are multiple leagues around Asia, Oceania, Americas and Europe that practice baseball for clubs. That's the key difference, baseball is a CLUB dominated sport, so it would be kinda stupid if MLB was the only Major league (its not). In terms of leagues comparable to MLB, the NPB KBO and MBL are all major leagues, with various lesser known major leagues from Italy to Australia. 2. International competition for baseball has existed since the 1930s. In fact, it was an an Olympic sport from 1992-2008 and again in 2020 and 2028, cricket will only make its debut in the olympics in 2028. I will say that international baseball is not very prominent, but for the exact opposite reason you just stated. The sole reason why baseball lacks in international play at least in the senior level is because american players REFUSED to play. That's like if Australia just stopped playing joining cricket tournaments. MLB teams did not want their players playing for USA Baseball because they thought it was a waste of time and risk injuries, so they actively pushed against using senior-level players from playing for country, while every other nation sent their best players and were angry that the US didn't. Baseball does have a world cup, called a Classic every four years, 2023 broke an insane amount of records in viewership, sales, and profits because it was the first tournament where the best US players actually decided to play for the country. Its akin to when the Olympics allowed the Dream Team to get together. So no, its not because it was only USA players, it was because it was everyone BUT USA players. 3. All the countries besides the Dutch are former colonies of Britain within the past 200 years. So while it is a worldwide sport, that's a huge caveat that needs to be understood. Because outside the commonwealth, its not popular at all. Saying its the second biggest sport is also kind of funny considering one country makes up 3/4th of the fan base. I wonder who that is. Baseball at least has better distribution, with big countries like Japan, US, Mexico, Korea and alot of smaller ones like the Caribbean nations. It also didn't involve the US colonizing places in order to spread it, in fact most of the nations that love the sport were created by introductions by US teachers/missionaries teaching the game or expats returning from the US to their native country. East Asia, The Americas and parts of Europe and Oceania play baseball at a senior level.

Many people like to comment re "branding" a runner with the ball....It comes from the game of Rounders which many like to think was the basis of baseball. It was a rule of that game that hitting a runner with the ball in between one of the ten "stations"was a legitimate out. Of course rules changed when baseball's rules were compiled but the action of tagging a baserunner in today's game is thought to be a hang over. You are correct in saying game umpires have absolute control over deliveries that target head area.

Different games, different rules. Pointless to compare them. Cricket is about skill, technique, strategy, endurance and adoption. Baseball is about power and timing. There are too many types of deliveries in cricket: fast, slow, in-swing, out-swing, reverse-swing, yorker, bouncer, leg-spin, off-spin, googly, flipper, top-spin, slider, zooter, doorsra, and more. Now add pitch condition (dry, wet, grassy, flat, bouncy, cracked, smooth), weather, wind, new ball vs old ball, line, length, and many other variables to it. It just gets mind boggling for the batter. There's no prediction. The batter must react in fraction of a second. Baseball doesn't have all that. There is one plane where the batter needs to focus and swing. There is much talk about how the cricket bat is wider and flatter and so easy to hit the ball, and "give a cricket bat to a baseball player and he'll hit every pitch". I don't think they can, because the average cricket bat is at least 20% heavier than the average baseball bat; making it that much slower to swing. Its weight, balance, size and shape impact the reaction time drastically, so no, I don't believe a baseball player can hit better using a cricket bat. It'll be worse for him. Cricket bats are designed that way for several reasons. One of them is so the batter can protect himself because in cricket, it is perfectly legal for the bowler to aim the batter's body. Imagine if doing so is legal in baseball and the bat is still the same. This is not to ridicule baseball, but just to show how different are the two games and how biased is this video.

Cricket fans never complain about the gloves on the hands of catcher(baseball). They complain about gloves on the hands of outfielders in baseball. This was not a proper take. A more proper justification would be that, in baseball the play doesn't end if you catch the ball, you still have to throw it back. So you catch the ball with your non-dominant hand, hence the glove. Then quickly transfer the ball to your other hand for a quick throw.
@NinhLyUK3 жыл бұрын
Yes, and it's still a pointless argument. A wicket keeper wears gloves to do his job better. Baseball players do the same. If you arm Cricket fielders with gloves, they'd get more outs. The different rules of each game dictates how it's played and they CANNOT be compared. That's the point.

3:15 Not Correct, You are talking about wicketkeeper, the person who faces balls coming at a speed of 100kmph or more ( just like the player in baseball who sits behind the striker). This is not a fair argument, you should compare cricket fielders to baseball fielders. Cricket ball is heavier and goes higher in the sky as compared to baseball. sometimes fielders face the ball directly after being hit by the batsman. Whatever the reason you may give, cricket fielders are better than baseball fielders.

Baseball is harder to play overall, cause, it isn't only hitting (that It is super difficult already) and there are several type of pitch (curveball, slider, sinker, spliter, change-up, and derivates of them like Slurve) makes it even harder, whatever, baseball you have to field and run, that part to me baseball is more difficult than cricket. Thats why baseball players looks more athletic or bigger than a cricket player. They have to developt power (physical) to be good, because you need to have strength to at least move the ball from infield or run the bases (the bases look close but they are not). And if we talk about being a pitcher in baseball, it's a totally different conversation.
@johnhenry9453 Жыл бұрын
@Cricket Explained ok but not as much than baseball because we have more seams in the ball (4-seam fastball, 2-seam fastball, sinker, spliter, slider, curveball, knuckecurve, changeup, forkball, swepper, slurve, cutter). Like it said the fielding on baseball is harder, look the infield fielding of baseball you have to catch 90mph+ balls (no homo lol) and throw, of course we uses gloves cause the exit velocity off bat of those balls are insane, more than in cricket (regular exit velo in cricket is 85mph in baseball is 103mph), so those balls are like a bullet in your hand. And for last, we have to run, thats make the baseball more athletic than cricket. You guys in cricket run a less distance than baseball bases and we have to run to steal base too.

One point worth mentioning, is in baseball they can drop the bat, in cricket, they cannot. Also in cricket, they are running with heavy pads and a helmet which blocks a decent amount of the batters view. Great video, just thought these points could have been put in. Not to mention, fatigue. Even in T20, a single Batsman could in theory bat the entire innings, but in Baseball each batter has his turn and then it gets a rest. Overall they get more resting time. Test Cricket is most definitely harder than than baseball, but that's purely because of the insane length of the matches. 5:46 - That argument is just pure ignorance. For a bowler or batsman, wicketkeeper or fielder, different skills and more selective skill set is desirable. It is not easy to bowl in cricket or as I heard in baseball. So no comparisons there i agree. Cricket is a larger version of the game compared to baseball and to pitch for an entire day oozes the blood off you. To bowl specific line and length is to think intelligently and "predict" batsman's next move by analyzing his performance and mindset. Cricket is not an easy game and neither seems baseball from my watching the basics of baseball. It seems very very difficult to score a single run in baseball and fast action makes the ball almost impossible to hit. In cricket the bowler has to run or trot to the crease to bowl while thinking of a strategy , which is too much work literally for a single bowl.

Baseball is a far better sport for Americans as it is a far easier sport to understand. Hit the ball as hard as possible and then run like shit in an anti-clockwise direction is a very easy concept for even an American to understand. They do their best to make the game sound as complicated as possible by speaking very fast while throwing masses of meaningless statistics at you, but the basic concept of what goes on in the field of play can take less than 30 seconds to explain. Try explaining cricket to an American and you will find this verging on the impossible. He will have eaten two mouths supply of pizza and drunk every can of piss water he amusingly calls beer in your house, before he finally remembers how many balls there are in an over. Any number over 3 and he will tend to struggle somewhat.

I have been a lifelong cricket fan. Have also enjoyed soccer when Barca plays it. Having been living in the US Midwest for more than 2 years now, I have certainly become a huge American football fan lately because my colleagues I interact with in the lab have mostly been Americans. But most of them were never interested in baseball. However, I have one friend who enjoys baseball and asked me more than a month ago if he could come over to my place to watch 2 of the MLB world series games this time. The reason was that my property management provides the channel that streams MLB, for free. So I agreed to have some beer and watch it with him. I watched Ninh's 'Rules of baseball' video before that and we watched the last two games where the Dodgers won it. Although those are the only 2 baseball games I have ever watched, but they were definitely interesting from my perspective, even though those were 2 of the most interesting games this season according to him. I would say that baseball has its own vibe and is very different from cricket. People with different tastes might like one over the other. For me personally, I get similar vibes to T20 cricket when I watch American football at times, because both in T20 and American football, the game can sharply change within a span of 10 minutes! Having said that, I would also like to mention that even to me (who is a lifelong cricket fan), sometimes T20 and test cricket kinda seem two very different sports, rather than just 2 different formats, haha! Before all these happened, I was sorta prejudiced about baseball cause most young Americans I met before that, talked rubbish about baseball. But I definitely enjoyed those two games and it sorta changed my perspective. Nevertheless, the games go on. Each of them has their own vibes, be it T20 or baseball or football or test cricket or soccer. If you don't like one, then don't waste your precious times typing rubbish about it on social media. As simple as that. For me though, cricket, football and soccer are probably the top three. But I enjoy watching other sports as well. Point to be mentioned: This video was a good job, Ninh. Could have added a few more points such as difficulties in playing sharp spin balls in cricket and curve balls in baseball...

Thanks. That was the point I was trying to make on this video: that it's pointless trying to compare the two like for like. That said, some idiots have already tried to do so in the comments section, even though I pointed this out. Brilliantly said. It’s just like the Apple vs Android, but for angry tech nerds who have nothing better to spend their energy on. P.S. Apple sucks :)

In baseball, batter hits a ball and throws the bat away and starts to run fanatically is the stupidest thing to watch. There is so much compulsion in baseball, you must not miss the ball 3 times, you must run when ball hits, you must hit in the 90 degree of the ground area only. Baseball is so limited. Batter must be getting bored to death after scoring just one run and then waiting for so long time to get one more ball to face?? LOL.

I genuinely can’t believe people try to compare these two sports. Rocks in their heads. I enjoy cricket more because I was born and grew up in Australia. But it’s never occurred to be to compare to it Baseball. Great video as usual Ninh. 👍🏻

In cricket: the easiest ball to play is full toss. And in the baseball every ball is full toss 😅😅😅😅

A full toss is just throwing it in the air, thats all a crickter can do with a full toss. A baseball player can make a ball move right to left, arc up to down, while changing its speed and timing, all from how they threw it. Like they say in American sniper " aim small miss small" There is a lot bigger degree of error for a batter to actually hit a baseball because the deflection of movement is so precise. You are bound to hit a cricket ball majority of the time when bowled, in baseball, managing to just hit the ball is considered a success. Try hit a full toss but it changes direction from your left hand side to your right while also changing speeds and then suddenly dipping prior to you swinging, oh and your bat is shaved down 1/8th the surface area and u stand 2 meters closer to the bowler.

It is difficult for a fielder to catch the ball in cricket when compared to baseball you should not insult people who point that out in the name of safety

Biased comparison....in baseball when thrower throw towards the batsman in this situation batsman know ball directly come to the bat... But in cricket batsman don't know hows ball come.... Swing spine, cutter are the factor that makes cricket difficult...

I am a cricket lover but baseball is an awesome sport and I wish to play baseball but you can't compare between two sports because different countries have their sports, in India we play & watch Cricket match and in America they play & watch Baseball match

In Brazil we play a game named Bets, thats similar to cricket but a lot easier and quickly. We can play it at the beach or even on the streets. Thats pretty popular here.
