Other people do graphics comparisons... I do this. Next time someone tells you that Sigma 2 is a good Ninja Gaiden game, show him this! This is basically my feeling towards Sigma 2 in video form... I hate that shit game. Shame on you Hayashi! You fucked up one of the greatest action games of all time... PRAISE LORD ITAGAKI CHANGES IN SIGMA 2 =================== I often get asked this exact question, so in order to never have to repeat myself again, i will list all the (in my eyes) negative changes here: - Game got censored (99% of spilled blood was changed into purple mist) - Completely censored Cutscenes - Reduced enemy count - Increased enemy health - Increased enemy delimb resistance - Reduced enemy aggression - Reduced enemy IS throwing - Addition of one hit kill grabs on MN from all bosses and most enemies to compensate for the lower enemy count and easier difficulty - Changed weapon upgrade system (upgrades are for free and the game mandates when and to what lvl the player can upgrade. Infuriating) - Easier game overall (most of the fights were deleted or altered, f.e. Sigma 2 on Master Ninja starts with 5 grey Ninja instead of 5 IS Ninja, CH 11 lacks the first 6 fights ENTIRELY, more save points / shops were added, and more) After some research, we found that the enemies were cut by 2/3. Enemy count in Vanilla 2: 4300-4600. Enemy count in Sigma 2: 1550. Simply pathetic - Removal of all water combat (cannot fight the Water Dragon on water in Sigma 2) - No NG+ anymore (original had 2 different NG+ modes) - Cut (or exchanged) Bosses - Easier and slower bosses - Ability to Izuna Drop Genshin (destroys the entire bossfight) - Removed the ability to counter strong attacks (f.e. Genshin's Haze Straight Slash and his FS, or Mechs) - Removal or Incendiary Shuriken, Windmill Shuriken and Underwater Gatling Gun - Removal of Bow UTs - Unlimited Arrows and addition of a gun to compensate for the lack of Bow UTs - The Bow has an autoaim system now (the autoaim is completely broken and does not work and aims at all kinds of things sometimes, and manual aim does not work correctly as well, the bow snaps to things or simply does not even let the player change targets sometimes) - Addition of 3 Mandatory Female Chapters (HORRIBLE) - Game forces life / Ki upgrades on pickup (when u pick up a Spirit of the Devils or a Life of the thousand Gods, then the game uses it automatically and robs u of the choice of when (or if) to use it). Also, those upgrades do not refill health or ki anymore - Even tho Chapter Challenge was added, it reduced the max Ki slot count to 5 instead of 10 and is in general no replacement for a proper NG+ mode - Removal of all keys / keycards in the game, including all lore that came with them, as well as having all doors already opened for the player - Increased in-game loading times (when opening chests, change weapons, etc) - Guillotine Throw is not a 100% delimb anymore, and performing a Flying Swallow on in air / crawling enemies is not a 100% insta kill anymore - The Izuna Drop is in Ryus arsenal from the start with a lvl 1 sword (as well as all other lvl 1 weapons) making an already easier Master Ninja mode even MORE easy - Logically, the Izuna Drop does not enough damage anymore to kill some of the lesser Ninjas - Removed the ability to shoot 2 arrows in the air after a normal jump - Heavenly Justice is not moving towards the attacked enemy when performed without directional input, making the followups clunky or wiff entirely - Removed the ability to turn the camera during an Izunda Drop and during all "Rope" shimmy sections - Removed the ability to switch between free and locked on cam during bossfights. It is always on lock on now. Pure retardation - Removed the ability to switch between manual save slots and autosaving (seperate slots). The game will always autosave at statues and the player can only manually save after a chapter. Furthermore, all difficulties in story mode share a single autosave, and in chapter challenge each chapter has its own autosave, tho again only one for all difficulties. What a horrible decision... - Removed the ability to turn the camera while casting Ninpo without actually aiming the Ninpo. Both sticks aim Ninpo now (in the original, the left stick aimed the Ninpo, the right stick only turned the camera) - Bosses like the Blind Giant or Rasetsu will be obliterated with both a light and strong attack now... Before, only a strong attack would OT them... They cannot be killed any other way. A very bad change to combat - All Tests of Valor have been removed - I cannot believe i am saying this now, but - there is an invisible object / wall in the arena of the first Zedonius fight - Removed the ability to immediately run on the surface of water when jumping on it from "too high up" - Some weapons were nerfed (f.e. Talons ->Y has a lower delimb rate now, the Scythe's damage was nerfed so hard, it feels like a wet noodle, probably to make the Enma's Fang the default heavy weapon, etc) - Incendiary Shuriken that actively stick to Ryu during a UT charge will NOT stun him. they are basically cotton balls now - Weapons / LotG, LottG / SotD that were not picked up cannot be bought at Muramasa in the following chapter - Removed the ability to see the actively selected Ninpo on the left of the healthbar. - Removed the ability to Ninpo cancel Izuna Drops - You can block Lycan and Van Gelf grabs... Let me repeat that again: YOU CAN BLOCK LYCAN AND VAN GELF GRABS!! BLOCK EM!! DERPDI DERP DERP - Dynamic damage system was removed (In vanilla 2, the damage Ryu receives is depending on what Ryu is doing and how much HP he has. F.e. if Ryu's HP is low he takes slightly less damage, if he charges UT he takes NUCLEAR damage and so on...)

I think you forgot the thing that you can't have more than one checkpoint, and this is horrible, if you want to do more than one run at the same time, for example, i was doing my first master ninja run on sigma 2 and because it was to hard, i wanted to do another run in the mentor path, but i can't did it

Sigma 2 is an absolute disgrace to the masterpiece that is Ninja Gaiden 2. I played up until the end chapter two of Sigma 2 when I bought the master collection, and the environments felt so empty with almost no enemies, so I looked up the differences between the two games and happily bought Vanilla 2 a couple of days later.

Reading and watching all these changes, it feels like the devs had to take Ninja Gaiden Black and 2 apart and put them back together to get them working on PS3. The cell processor was an infamous piece of hardware to work with, especially for Japanese devs. There definitely was a different intent when designing Sigma 1 and 2, but they probably wouldn't have so many weird cuts and restrictions if they were made as native PS4 games instead. Actually, I think hearing that Sigma 2 cut two thirds of all enemies clinches it for me. There's no way that wasn't to improve performance.

yeah most likely true.. but there are also weird and pointless design choices that show a total disregard for the original title... like the lack of free cam during bossfights, or the changed upgrade system... yes some changes had to be made to make the game run, but some others are just the result of bad direction and a lack of understanding the game... the question is: if a port is impossible, why port the game at all?

Chapter 11 gauntlet is the best, really satisfying. Unlike the Chapter 2 opening you have no excuse for failure, you have all the upgrades and ninpo by this point - everything is down to your own skill and the techiques you have learned through a thousand deaths.

Literally JUST beat Sigma 2 like 10 minutes ago because I was bored and downloaded it last night. I played and DIDNT die one time on normal mode. I remember playing the original NG2 and dying on normal at least dying or having to use a ninja rebirth scroll or whatever. What they did to “water” down the game is criminal. But I will say that it was fun to an extent. I’m gonna play it on hard now.

Really was disappointed with sigma 2 on the MC. TN couldn’t use the hardware issue anymore ever since it was on modern consoles so I expected chapter 11 to be jam packed with ninjas but no. I only died once and that was genshin throwing me once. Vs NG2 I died a couple times from being overwhelmed by ninjas

Sigma 2 player here, never experienced the original (I ordered it to finally play it when it arrives in a week or so) I gotta say I am a bit concerned about the lower HP of enemies and the increased delimb rate, kinda sounds like I'll be able to kill most enemies with little thought in comparison, which at that point increased enemy count hardly matters to me. I am looking forward to how my assumptions may change upon playing the game, wish me luck. Btw, having said all that, I can't help but love this video, it's hilarious I genuinely love it, the crickets absolutely kill me.

hey there :) i think u misunderstand the gameplay NG II was aiming for. the game is about crowd controll and movement. disposing of your enemies as quickly as possible. its is a million times more difficult ;) prepare for frustration u have never felt in sigma 2... there is difficulty and then there is NG II... and trust me, a LOT of thought goes into combat... it is just soooooo fast paced in comparison that u will never have time to think... the sheer number of enemies will have u on your toes the whole time... i think there will be times when u throw the controller away screaming "THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE!!!" but trust me, it is not... i think u will either love it or hate it :) pls tell me ur thoughts when u finally play it, i am very curious... GL and thanks, i am glad u enhoy the vid :) (just to give u a heads up, mentor mode in sigma 2 is about the difficulty of acolyte on NG II... it is not even comparable in terms of difficulty...)

@@FarnhamTheDrunk1 Oh don't get me wrong, I am sure I will absolutely love the game, its just that IMO enemies don't really contest you very well, you can approach an enemy and launch them/isolate them quickly and efficiently, and with lower HP and higher delimb I feel like it just boils down to Izuna drop and OT/UT abuse. I do have some friends who are Vanilla 2 fans who are also patiently awaiting my thoughts on the game lol. They too, often tell me that the difficulty isn't quite what I make it out to be so I understand :), though I do feel like being able to dispatch enemies quickly is less threatening overall, less management IMO. Don't worry I won't break a controller xD, I like rly hard games so if you happen to be correct, I may very well favor Vanilla 2 in the end, we will see. I know lower difficulties on S2 are nerfed heavily but I'm only rly interested in MN so that's where I'll be comparing the most. I'll definitely come let you know how I feel in the end :) Wish me luck. EDIT: oh you did ty lol

@@Seph4096 NG II has downloadable mission mode, yes... its about 7 bucks i think... and u should not look at UT as cheese or spam, the game is MEANT to be played with lots of UTs, the enemy count is specifically made for that, UTs are how the game is supposed to be played, and if u are good u can challenge urself without them, NG = UT, thats just the game. a player being able to NOT use them is a tough restriction. especially in NG II. and trust me, Ut spam in NG II is not as easy as u might think, sometimes the enemies wont even let u do on landing UTs :) but yeah i can talk as much as i like, u have to experience it yourself :) (the enemy count in sigma 2 is 1550... in NG II its 4600, just to give u some numbers lol)

@@Badshah044 yes the coop stuff was quite fun, a shame it is missing from the master collection tho... the other trials were kinda meh... i would have liked if they replaced the worm but the complete deletion of the whole area left a bad taste in my mouth... they could have left the tunnels and fill em with ninja or something... deleting the whole thing was kinda dumb imo... (i personally like the worm and the whole area, but i understand that i am quite alone with that haha)

Do a comparison with the cutscenes. The intro had no gore, ryu cut a wolf in half in the France chapter in the og ng2, and in sigma 2 his sword is made out of plastic

we have scientifically established that the volf in ch 6 died of a heart attack... Ryu wiffed the attack but the wolf was already 85, and he got so scared that he got a heart attack... in ch 14 muramasa actually has a bag of sleeping powder that he sprinkles on his sword and he blows it in every ninja face he passes by by swinging his sword near them and they all fall asleep... same with sonia, she had blanks in the guns and the ninja just fainted from the loud noise next to his ears... :D feel free to add any theories you might have haha

Hi, I’m a year later to this, but I’d like to say a few things. But before I do, I want to say this to clarify things and act as a disclaimer: Sigma 2 compared to OG NG2 is just an embarrassment. I say this after devoting over 150 hours into the MC’s version of Sigma 2. The game does feel empty and barebones compared to the original version. I don’t know why these changes were made, but goddamn it hurts to see. Now for what I have to say about Sigma 2 as a whole: 1. I don’t think the game is as bad as people made it out to be. On its own, I think it’s a great way to ease someone into the series. I invested the hours I mentioned above and I did have a lot of fun completing the game. 2. The added bosses are pretty fun to fight, except the Statue of Liberty; fuck that. The reduced enemies are a little disappointing because I absolutely love having enemies swarm me and just mowing them down. But the increased health of the enemies does make it easier to practice combos. Though why GT isn’t an automatic delimb is beyond me, that’s just stupid all around. 3. Fuck Rachel’s chapter 4. Ayane and Momiji’s chapters weren’t too bad, but they felt unnecessary. I’m just glad they’re more playable in RE tbh. Momiji is incomplete moveset wise and Ayane’s damage is dogshit. 5. Being able to Izuna Drop, Flower Drop, Underworld Drop and even Izuna Falcon Genshin is the funniest shit ever. I just love how Genshin is portrayed as Ryu’s equal, yet we can just loop him with the Lunar. It’s cheap, yeah, but it’s still really funny to do. 6. Fuck the Armadillo 7. Out of all the things that could have been done, getting rid of Elizabet’s **RNG HITBOX** wasn’t one of them. I spent 3 fucking days on her fights each when doing my first MN playthrough. And bear in mind, I’m on the Master Collection. Who thought that was a good idea? Just who? TL;DR: Sigma 2 is an absolute mess compared to the original Ninja Gaiden 2. But it’s fun on its own and in its own right. Edit: I forgot to mention how much I hate the cannon. You only use it during the Water Dragon fight, and even that’s stretching it. Oh and speaking of the Water Dragon fight, why did they change it from being able to traverse the water to being limited to a 2x2 slab? Whoever thought of that needs to stay away from game development.

As for Sigma 2, I've played up to about half-way through Master Ninja mode and couldn't bring myself to finish it. NGII and Sigma 2 are only different spectrums, with the former being the king.

I'm doing a play through of the ninja gaiden games and realized I had the digital of sigma 2 via gamepass and the disk of 2 so I looked up the difference and by looking at this vid and pinned comment it seems like a better idea to stick to the disk

Just completed this on Mentor (not even on MN yet) and holy shit, this chapter is brutal. Lots of fights I had to cheese and some I despawn by accident. Still, it is my fav chapter due to how intense it is. Apparently it is possible to kill over 600 enemies in this chapter, which is like 1/3 of the enemies in Sigma hahaha

I tend to believe that Itagaki never wanted to port ninja gaiden on the PlayStation! So when they ported the first one he made whatever was possible never to happen again! And he did it! Hayashi admitted that it was not possible to port the same game on ps3 due differences in chipset architecture! So he redesigned from scratch with the known results we all know! But he couldn't dublicate the game! Itagaki took advance of Xbox vr memory to that extend that it was not possible for ps3 to make it! Even Xbox had framedrops! So Itagaki took his revenge for ninja gaiden (plus for dead or alive that they ported on ps2 without his knowledge and approval!)!

You know, it makes me wonder. Ryu in these 3d games is very young. Maybe 22 , 23. I'd say 26 in Razors Edge. Yet he has a wisdom that supersedes his typical demographic. It do make sense that when Ryu left his village, his father got beaten by Genshin but managed to escape but Black spider clan took over the Hayabusa village. Ryu returns to Hayabusa village, it is his final stop before heading to unholy ground. The reason why he returns is to pickup the Eye of the Dragon. The Eye of the Dragon is an enchanted Magatama jewel that is said to hold the spirit of a mighty dragon, the black spider clan knew about this and took the jewel from Kureha's gravestone. Jô, Ryu's father told Ayane to get back the jewel and bring it to Ryu. Now the whole Hayabusa village swarming with Black spider clan ninjas and Ryu is about to go down and grab the jewel, Ayane comes from nowhere and gives Ryu the Eye of the Dragon. Lucky.. one step is done but there is one left.... Ryu is now fighting through a ton of enemies on his way to the volcano where he meets Genshin...

yes i have played it a lot actually! i dont think that sigma 2 is inherently a bad game, its just that its a butchered version of what the game is supposed to be when u compare it to the original. if u have never played vanilla 2, u might even like sigma 2... i would recommend playing the game normally first, and then installong the mod, that way u really get all the changes and get to know both versions!

I just went through this part on vanilla 2 on master ninja. That was intense, and don't get me started on the Rasetsu gauntlet afterwards! I'm happy of my MN progress. After 16 years lol. Sigma 2... ok, I get that it wasn't an easy port to do and the PS3 couldn't handle that many enemies, but come on, there's no reason for the beginning of the chapter to be a complete ghost town. Certainly they could have put like 2 or 3 waves of 3-4 enemies, right? Was that too much to ask? 🤷‍♀

I recently got ninja gaiden sigma 2 on gamepass since they removed og ninja gaiden 2 from gamepass just to try it out knowing the stuff they changed, I have to say ng sigma 2 was so boring compared to og ng2. The only change I'd say I liked in sigma 2 is whenever you die you respawn right away instead of having to wait for the game to load and going through the "Chapter 14 blah blah insert description here" I remember first beating ng2 on master ninja and it felt like such an achievement man, it took me forever to beat it since it was just _so_ difficult. I'm pretty sure it took me about 20+ hours to finish, there were some parts that were simply a pain to get past. Sigma 2 really ruined it all by nerfing the game to the ground. I really hate how they removed the windmill shuriken and the IS, and how they nerfed the scythe and -> Y with the talons. Oh and another thing, they pretty much removed all the cool dlc skins from og ng2 which totally sucks, but hey it's whatever the game is still cool

I played both and this stage specifically threw me off to a point where I thought my game was glitched and the enemies wouldn’t spawn. That being said Sigma 2 did make some major improvements over vanilla 2 I’d argue. The camera system in sigma 2 is nearly perfected over vanilla 2, and before the majority of players at the time of its release made huge complaints on bosses and enemies being flat out cheap due to the camera crapping out much more often (also anyone remember chapter 9?). I think what sigma 2 was trying to accomplish here was to make it more of a fair game to the player and the enemies, hence why it feels so much easier to us veteran players of the OG NG2. You also are limited to the upgrade system which I hate but that could be argued more difficult as you have to fight enemies with a more limited combat system, I wouldn’t say that’s cheap, I’d say that’s dumb but the argument is on the table still. The biggest argument I completely get is the enemy count, Sigma 2 compensated this by making the enemies have higher HP and give damage much harder than vanilla 2. Also just keep in mind Hayashi has been apart of the creative team since DOA3 which included ninja gaiden, so give Hayashi a break. Itagaki made devils third and Hayashi was behind NG3 vanilla. Both were awful in their own ways. My personal preference is neither, it’s still ninja gaiden 2, newcomers will have a blast still and some may even become apart of the fan base and play NG vanilla and make their own opinion, which is great for this semi small community.

i disagree on the camera part. its actually much worse in sigma 2 cause u cannot unlock the cam during bossfights, no free cam anymore, always locked on, especially infuriating during double bossfights. Furthermore, the ability to turn the camera during an Izuna Drop was removed, it is static now. The camera is also not movable during certain "rope shimmy" sections. Another change that is infuriating is that u cannot turn the cam during a Ninpo cast without aiming the Ninpo itself. So as u can see, the cam is FAR WORSE in sigma 2... i honestly think it did everything wrong it could have, and it is a disgrace to what the game initially was... ofc, i am not saying nobody is allowed to like it, but it is NOT NG II. But i agree with u, if someone has never touched NG before, Sigma 2 is gonna be a great time. but is an abomination if u know what the real NG II is... devils third is great imo haha the only problem that game has is its framerate on the wii u... the game is a lot of fun tho. not even close to how shit ng3 is... i can definitely recommend it if u can get it cheap

Maybe on Playstation 3 like the other versions they have new bosses and other content. Although I keep the Gore in different situations, it doesn't compare to the original game, which was more sadistic, To this we add that in crazy areas of the 360 version there are more enemies. I have already played both versions and there is a clear conclusion: It doesn't matter if you have better graphics, if there is no fun in important points there is no problem, and that is where the Xbox 360 wins apart from not having censorship.

I just got to the "epic" staircase on sigma 2. After saving at the checkpoint, I booted up vanilla 2 and played the same area. I deleted sigma 2(gamepass) and I'm never looking back. Sigma 2 is a big F*$k you to ninja gaiden as a whole. Now team ninja is reduced to copying other forms of success like fromsoft. Even rise of the ronin looks like ghost of tsushima and assassins creed mixed. Long live Itagaki!

I bought the collection to relive the days me and my dad played this game together. A lot of things felt really really off about sigma. Mind you its was a good 11 years since I played NG2 when i played the collection. It felt less stressful and less action packed. ​@@JagGentlemann one thing I can say is that Sigma 2 has better boss fights and they are more challenging. I feel like they butchered the levels that Itageki liked to stick it to him for whatever reason cause sigma 1 didn't do stuff like that

I wonder why the hell they didn’t made Ninja Gaiden Black 2 after controversy of Sigma 2?? Sigma 2 looks like a disappointing and rushed re release product. God I hope modders and hack editors would fix some stuffs on Sigma 2 master collection.

This has nothing to do with the video but i would like more games with NG 2 enemy agressiveness, even below warrior you rivals attack more often and had longer string combos, anti air tech and proyectiles to keep you in your toes than most games, thats one of the things i disliked of dmc5 non boss battles with the passive enemies, no way to counter your aerial moves or anything in your moveset lol

the only thing imo that comes close to NG 2 in terms of combat depth and enemy agression / density is God of War 3... If u have not played that, i recommend that very highly! i mean it doesnt play the same ofc, but it is the only other action game rivaling NG 2 action imo

@@FarnhamTheDrunk1 Sigma 2 has some advantages, but the best one is NG2 ! Specially on Xbox One X&Series X ! I did 100% easily on PS3 version and i'm still stuck on NG2 Xbox story mode ( master mode)... Long life to Itagaki vision and NG2 ! 😌

@@datdudecritical_5070 i think it deserves it. it is an abomination. too many changes from the original. it has nothing to do AT ALL anymore with ng2. just check my "discussion" section for a list of changes and u will understand why i hate it so much But i agree that if u never played NG II before, you probably wont mind at all and will have a great time with Sigma 2... But thats not the point of this video haha
