5:17 look don’t get me wrong, I love Lloyd, he’s one of the best characters, especially with how much time and effort the writers put into him, but I absolutely hated him in this scene. Kai is the LEAST selfish ninja, he not only gave up his entire childhood for Nya, but also continually put his friends over himself. Yes he acts cocky a lot of the time but Kai would do ANYTHING for his friends and family, sure he makes Jokes but Kai is one of the only characters who does things for others without thinking about himself. He literally only became a ninja to save Nya, he was the one who made sure everyone got out of the tournament of element alive, he fought the power of Chens staff, hell he was more invested in Skyler most of season 4, not because he was being selfish, he actually found someone that he liked and had romantic feeling for. Kai CONSTANTLY put others before himself which is why I hate when people call him selfish. He has done EVERYTHING for the people he loves and he isn’t giving enough credit for that. Zane was his brother, they had so much longer to develop a relationship with than Lloyd, OF COURSE he would want to trade places with him! Kai spent his whole life as a protector, but when it came to his brother, he couldn’t do anything. Kai wanted to be the green ninja so he could protect his family! How is that selfish?! All he has ever wanted to do is prove himself. Lloyd was forced to be the green ninja, and he’s just a kid, he was the one who was the most against using the tomorrows tea because it wasn’t fair for Lloyd to lose out on his childhood. All he has ever wanted to do is protect. How is that selfish I ask? Kai deserves better than to be called selfish like that. Lloyd should have been there to comfort him instead of shame him for have FEELING like a normal human being!

It's not about being selfish, its about ego. Kai's egotistical, it's part of his character, he thinks he's separated from the team. In the pilots? He went ahead of all the ninja to steal the Map from Samukai instead of waiting for Cole to formulate a plan. In season one? He thought he was destined to be the green ninja, not because he wanted to protect his family (you're remembering things wrong) but because he thinks he's the most significant ninja. In season four, he thinks that he should've died instead of Zane because he feels survivors guilt. There's no actual reason for him to have died instead of Zane, but because he survived, he feels that his death would have affected the team less because he was always "above" the team. He had buried this line of thinking previously, but it resurfaced due to Zane's death. Lloyd can't always comfort him, Kai needed motivation, not comfort. Lloyd gave him that.

Ok ik this is supposed to be a silly video (and it is, I’ve actually laughed at loud several times) but also the clip at 5:18 peeves me *soooo* bad. Like, Lloyd is out here calling Kai *selfish* because he said he would have preferred *him dying* over ZANE. And the Green Ninja thing was done and dealt with several seasons ago but this point in the series, so Lloyd bringing that up at all was just plain rude >:( Plus, a major thing for Kai’s character is abt how he’s a protector, and a big part of why he wanted the title of Green Ninja so much was so he could protect *others*. It’s the exact opposite of selfish and it makes me sad that the show tries to spin it the other way :(
