Your videos greatly helped me understanding biochemistry in med school! As a visual learner and as a person who loves taking down notes, I now know the bigger picture of these metabolic pathways and their clinical significance! Continue doing videos like these! :)
@corporatetochiro59865 жыл бұрын
I cannot thank you enough for your videos. I have watched probably 15-20 of them so far (some multiple times) which represents a significant amount of my study time because you explain these processes so clearly, you repeat the names of steps or enzymes and recap often, you draw pictures to help us remember, you give clinical applications to relate these concepts to real-world issues, and you are organized and methodical in your explanations making it easy to follow along. PLEASE keep up the good work and keep producing these incredible videos! Many, many thanks!

Love your videos, however I'd like to point out an error for other people who may be watching. Mutations in Isocitrate Dehydrogenase, NOT alpha-ketoglutarate DH (as you mentioned in the video) lead to accumulation of 2-hydroxyglutarate and ultimately cancer. If anybody is familiar with cancer literature, you'll often read about "IDH mutations" which are very common in certain cancers (gliomas and acute myeloid leukemia especially). "IDH" is just a fancy abbreviation for "isocitrate dehydrogenase." IDH normally converts isocitrate to alpha-ketoglutarate; however when it is mutated, it also converts alpha-ketoglurate to 2-hydroxyglutarate which causes the problems mentioned in the video. More specifically and for those people who may be interested, there are three human IDH isoforms: IDH1, IDH2, and IDH3. IDH3 is what was discussed in the video and functions in the mitochondria to convert isocitrate to alpha-ketoglutarate while reducing NAD to NADH. The other two isoforms, IDH1 and IDH2 are the isoforms that are mutated in cancers and reduce NADP to NADPH (rather than NAD to NADH). IDH1 functions in the cytosol whereas IDH2 functions in the mitochondria. IDH3 is not normally mutated in cancers. Otherwise great video Here are some links if you want to learn more: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4109985/ advances.sciencemag.org/content/advances/5/5/eaaw4543/F1.large.jpg
