At this point, I can say Olivia is canon, the past Ollie before the switch. Gura's MV sold me that! In Hololive timeline, she was a daughter from a lineage of red-haired knight caught in the schism of light vs dark/political wars inside an empire. She got kidnapped and turned into Kureiji Ollie. However, in other dimension, their family won the war and the seiso Olivia survived and joined the comedy vtuber company made by Goya. She was struggling to be a comedian because she was so seiso. So much seiso charm made her luck over 9000. Ollie summoned her at occasions where she got 1st place in Mario Cart and legendary weapons in Apex. Come on Ollie, your streams made the Olivia story completed in my mind.

I think it's worth considering that, aside from Zomrades wanting to mess with Ollie, Olivia is just a very different flavor of VTuber than most which gives her a uniqueness even beyond her infrequent appearances. Olivia is usually played as a very calm, sensitive, soft spoken character(for the most part anyway), which not only directly contrasts Ollie in a very entertaining way, but also is pretty different from most other VTubers in general(at least that I'm aware of). Meanwhile Sally, while entertaining in her own way, is "just" another down bad, big oppai onee-san/dommy mommy, of which there are plenty of even within Hololive(see Marine, Choco-sen, Nerissa, etc). Neither of these approaches are better or worse than the other, but at least in my own time within the VTuber rabbit hole Olivia's character type is harder to find. I imagine this is because if you're a more soft spoken and sensitive type of person you also likely know VTubing, or just the entertainment business in general, probably isn't for you. Also yes, I did put way too much thought into this comment when really it's just funny to watch Ollie be jealous of Olivia.

The interesting thing is, deep inside, Olivia's "taste/personality" is actually exactly like Ollie, rotten... (this showed when Olivia x Cebo interaction) but her seal isn't broken yet. So Olivia is Ollie when her seal is strongly closed, Rotten on the inside but pure seiso on the outside. Half the fun of Olivia is the meme energy of Ollie's bewilderment at Olivia. The more she insists there's no appeal the funnier it is to enjoy, and the result feels like a prank with none of the guilt because you're ultimately just appreciating ollie at her simplest. It's a little like gym leader Larry, the simplicity is refreshing. Besides, I wonder if part of ollie's confusion is that she's used to trying to be bombastic to get attention, she finds it hard to believe people just like HER in general, no need to be "kureji." Meanwhile Sally feels like the opposite. She's trying too hard and obviously pandering. After the initial "Haha, boobs," The pandering makes it feel less sincere, so there's no staying power.

Olivia was just entertaining. Mostly because it was Ollie being silly rather than the character herself. The commitment to the bit makes it fun to interact with the vtuber. I don't know what the lore is for Ollie other than she is a zombie and the sword is likely a reference to a type of Indonesian ghost/creature. Same as Mika Melatika I think, just a more abstract and loose interpretation. Anyways, maybe its my ignorance, bit seeing Olivia was interesting. I was like, "Oh, are we experiencing some glimpse of Ollie's past life?" On a storytelling level, it gets you thinking. Who was Ollie before she died? And finally, I think Ollie underestimates the kink she unlocked. Yeah, boing and stuff is great, but that shy, timid archetype.... as a certain regular would say, it really activates my neurons! 😅

I think part of Olivia's appeal is how her narrative somehow fits perfectly. She is the lucky version of Ollie who escaped being turned into a zombie - she seems to have better gacha luck and seems to win more than ollie. Ollie complains about olivia - we can read that as jealousy over olivia being her but more fortunate, and not a zombie. She is portrayed as the quiet and innocent girl as opposed to ollie's contrasting personality, and also makes the narrative of how olivia went crazy and turn into ollie more interesting. Sallie is just big booba, oee-san Ollie and not nearly as interesting narratively.
