Nintendo 3ds/WiiU servers shut down during Mario Kart 7 race.

Welp, the 3ds and Wii U have officially lost most online capabilities.
We all knew this day would come, but it’s always sad when these things happen. The original plan was to have the Wii U playing alongside this but due to a couple reasons that didn’t work out.

I think it’s weird that now the switch is the ONLY Nintendo console to have active service. Also the Wii servers shut down way before the Wii shop did but the Wii U shop shut down before the servers, how odd

It’s honestly a shame too because the Wii U and 3ds had much more robust online capabilities, all for free too. Everyone knew it would happen at some point because every other online function not on the switch is almost completely dead. Wii shop, WFC, dsi shop, etc. Still sad to see nonetheless.

Pretendo and CTGP7 are fantastic if you want to continue playing. They 3ds family is very easy to mod.

@@SuperJGGaming Pretendo has an easier option on Wiiu where you just change your DNS and make an account to play online again. No mods needed. Hopefully that comes to 3ds because it would be awesome to have even more people online.

I just turned on my 3DS yesterday to play some Mario Kart 7 online (one of my FAVORITES!❤), and I am so sad to see that the online service is discontinued now. I played that for the better part of 13 years it was one of my go-to games to play, and the only way worth playing it is online with people. All those races, and all that VR points gained, gone. I am so heartbroken now, I feel as if I have lost a child and a very piece of me has tragically died. RIP Mario Kart 7 online. 💔 You will be sorely missed.

Blessing in disguise. I started messing with ctgp 7 for the first time after the eclipse and omg I’ve been geekin out just grinning hard playing all the new custom maps online.. I’m about to start seeing what’s up with the emulators, I want to try getting ps1 games

I used to have that exact 2DS when I was a little kid. But broke it when i threw it at the floor when my parents told me to go to bed. Turns out I broke the LCD display itself. Nowadays I have an Electric Blue 2 2DS and I've installed homebrew on it.

Just a tripod in front of it while laying on the floor, and then I looked through my phone screen. Surprisingly comfortable setup lol. Also my last FULL race was rainbow road so I was happy with that :)

restarted the game 2 times, first started playing back in 2014 made it to 79k VR then 2 years later my 3DS broke down, few weeks later i bought a 2DS made it to 33k VR and then about a year later accidentally mixed up with garbage, took a break for 5 years . I bought another 2DS back in 2022 made it to 11k VR. Happy to say I was one of the few thousand that made it over 99999k VR. Happy to say I made it to 123k VR with 3 stars online and all gold cart 3x times. Sadly never got the golden steering wheel. Will miss this game online as my childhood!

I was so pissed because I was in the middle of setting up to stream I was about to hook up my new Nintendo 3DS capture card to my PC to start streaming Mario Kart 7 online on my channel and then I heard it disconnect and my heart dropped I was upset for the whole day at least we have pretendo though, but Nintendo pulled the plug too soon if Nintendo could have let us have Nintendo network for at least two more years I feel like that would give pretendo enough time to critique and further develop their services for Wii U and 3DS so when Nintendo network does finally go offline which wasn't supposed to be yesterday in my opinion then pretendo servers would finally be fully ready because right now they're still in development which is good but also bad, there's going to be games we're not able to play for a good minute online until they themselves implement it in their servers, Nintendo did this too soon I'm not saying things are going to last forever as all things must come to an end but they could have lasted a bit longer before doing this😡

The only legacy consoles that are still being used for online play are the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 since their achievements and trophies can be seen on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.

If you install Pretendo, you can play online after shutdown! You need to mod your 3DS for this, tho.

i never was able to play mk7 online since i think i was banned from the mk7 servers i guess? idk what i did, but i did have fake tt times. those were jokes and i didnt mean to save them, and i hope that wasnt the reason. i did get to play mk8 online for the first time while the servers were shutting down though :)
