Let me be clear about this and with clarity: The Switch is NOT at the end of its lifecycle, we are STILL in the middle of it, and the last Nintendo Direct is the one in February even though you'd treat it as small. Additionally, I am not over hyped about what to expect in the June Summer Direct, I am instead doing it cautiously.

It's going to be one of those uneventful end of life Directs with a bunch of games nobody really wants like Mario sports title, Wii music HD (or something stupid like that), probably another NSO battle royal and maybe if we're lucky a 2D Zelda reusing the Links Awakening assets (or probably multiple games reusing existing assets/graphics, like Advance Wars 3 or Mario 3D Land sequel or something) they won't show Metroid Prime 4 and if they do it'll be delayed or not released until 2026

Recently, I haven't been excited about the videogame/brand direct, neither before nor after watching it. I don't doubt that the Switch's successor will be a solid console, but I question the originality and enjoyment of upcoming games. Personally, I found that the original Switch releases for popular series, though decent, weren't the best in their respective franchises. Newer releases may have a hint of originality but often feel lackluster. Perhaps Nintendo's current focus on remakes and remasters is a response to their older games having more engaging and original ideas than recent titles. As Luigi's Mansion 2 HD comes to Switch, we're only missing the first game-my favorite in the series due to its mysterious, spooky atmosphere, which I prefer over the more childish tone of the two latest games.

Since Nintendo became so silent this year it would even shush the crickets in the room, my worrying is on a 7 as silence can lead to sketchy roads (far more sketchy than usual for Nintendo to be this silent), even back in 2016, they were still as secretive of the Nintendo Switch as they are now, which was Project NX at the time, but info leaks were revealing more than the bare minimum we currently have (which might count as nothing)

No, “Nintendo Fans… It’s time to TEMPER EXPECTATIONS!” Like, if we assume for a minute Switch 2 follows the Switch’s reveal schedule to the exact dates, Switch revealed on October 20th, 2016, with a brief glimpse of Odyssey in that trailer. Then we waited until January 2017 for a full reveal of the game, which came out October of 2017. We absolutely don’t need the next Mario game revealed now if we go off Odyssey’s reveal to release. And I can’t see them revealing a Switch 2 game before the console- if we don’t have details on the console, we ain’t getting games period. I’m expecting more ports/remasters/remakes done to pad out the release schedule, and maybe some smaller new titles like they did with Peach Showtime. I do think the possibility of Prime 4 revealing and pulling a Twilight Princess/Breath of the Wild and releasing on both consoles is there, but that would be in the context of Switch and not mention the next console here. But not to be a Debbie Downer- going in with no expectations/low expectations will make the hype moments all the better. September last year, I went in expecting just Mario Kart news and came out BLOWN AWAY because they were remaking one of my favorite games of all time. If you go in with high expectations that aren’t met, it just stings that much more and then you blame Nintendo for not living up to the false Direct you made up in your head. So yeah, my hype’s at a 1. I always go in to a Direct with the hope there’s at least one announcement that appeals to me, but go in with no expectations, provided there isn’t DLC for a game like Mario Kart had. Then I go to every Direct expecting at least the next wave for that game. But boy, if there WAS a new DKC game… I’d be over the moon.

I'm hesitant to get too hyped. I think it's important to note that just because it's done and we haven't seen it yet, doesn't mean it will show up here, or even in this fiscal year. The 3DS had first-party support for a full two years into the Switch life cycle (largely ports, remakes or "lite" versions of Switch games), and I imagine they will similarly keep trickling out remakes and ports for the Switch for several more years while the install base slowly moves to the next-gen console. Which is to say, even if the rumors of Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD are true, there's no guarantee that they won't hold them until 2025 or 2026.

As someone who played Mario Kart 8 on Wii U, my fingers are crossed that MK9 will be a release title for the next system. MK8 and the map packs were cool and all but it has been soooo looong and they'd instantly have their system seller. A big reveal will be Metroid Prime 4. If they show it in the direct, it's probably gonna be a cross-gen title, if they don't it's probably an early release for the new system. It's also interesting that we haven't heard about a Pokemon direct yet. I wouldn't mind if Gamefreak skips this year and finally puts out a finished game for the Switch 2.

Can't wait i'm so excited for an upcoming this June's Nintendo Direct 2024! I hope Nintendo does not take a lead from PlayStation and not release nothing big for the rest of the year and save the big announcements for next year. Honestly, as if PlayStation got criticized for that already if Nintendo did this it would be worse.
