Natsu Dragneel very debatable, gow is a one time experience that lasts for about 25~ hours (it’s still good), red dead 2 drops off in gameplay fairly quickly and you do everything you can fairly quickly as well, spider-man is ok but it’s the same with an open world which isn’t necessary but i would have agreed if you brought up bloodborne and persona 5 which are arguably the only reasons to get a ps4 unless you haven’t played the last of us

After playing Zelda non-stop since release, I have to say that the Joy-Cons feel very natural and intuitive after I got used to them. In fact I would go so far to say as having them separated, one in each hand, is probably the most relaxed gaming experience I've ever had. There are some serious benefits to losing the requirement of having your hands together, once you get used to the extra small interface.

The Wiis "gimmic" made it outsell both the PS3 and XB360 together. The WiiU runs all first party Nintendo titles at 60FPS something Microsoft and Sonny shrugg off saying its "less cinematic". The WiiU failed because Nintendo was shit at marketing it. The switch on the other hand has generated a lot of hype because you can just take it with you and play on the go. Its far from perfect, and i wish they put in a better batery, so im not gonna buy it unless they make a version with more battery life in it, but its a lot less of a gimmic than you might think. Just the idea that you can pick it up and take it with you to play while you ride the train is pretty awesome.

Just bought a switch yesterday. The console is very nice and the games are very well directed, my main issue with it is textures. Playing Pokémon sword looks pretty nasty in some scenes. But when you’re battling something, it looks so much better

LimitedWard Nintendo patent about external computing unit was found some months ago, while end last year a neogaf user leaked plans about a GTX 1060-like eGPU designed exclusively for Nintendo Switch. Don't know what will happen, but I'm sure nintendo has considered/is considering such device.

My first hour of playing with the joy cons was strange, I was planning on getting a pro but after 120+ hours or more on Zelda botw, Those joy cons are dope and I don't plan on getting a pro until they drop significantly in price. metal pants let's face it, regardless of how nintendo puts it, this thing is a portable system that can be played on TV, and I wouldn't want it any other way+ I'm thankful for this and happy to have a system that can play home console style games wherever the hell I want! on the roof of my house, on a boat, hanging upside down in a tree, in the trunk of a car because my kidnapper was kind enough to let me play it on the way to get tortured, during sex on a remote island in the Caribbean, however and wherever I want to play this thing, I can. Though some people have had issues with theirs, that's to be expected, mine works perfectly, and I really can't imagine playing it any other way than portable unless I'm playing multi-player 😆

I think you'll find criticism on its own is often just as constructive as somebody who writes out an in-depth essay on how they would improve it themselves. Any sort of designer or developer will use any criticism as valuable feedback. I'm yet to see that much "bashing"- in fact, I've seen fairly legit feedback both for and against. What I do see is everyone neatly dividing themselves up into fans and critics and neither being willing to accept the other.

...before I sound like an idiot, my pro controller is my main controller for PC gaming because of the amazing ergonomics and the extra long battery life (also because I didn't realize the way steam supports Nintendo controllers if you have the settings active is by having the buttons swapped so if you press x on the switch controller it will press x on the Xbox controller instead making some games unplayable so I leave it as Xbox settings

I also love the pro controller, but I really disagree on your take on the joy con. I can't tell you how valuable they've been for quickly playing Mario kart on my break at work. They're not amazing, but they're not supposed to be; they're supposed to be a quick and easy way to play with multiple people. And as others have noted by others, Zelda outputs at 900p, not 720p.

Coming from a high end pc with 1080ti while playing at 1440p 144hz, I do not regret a single second that I got the switch. It is a truly amazing experience. Zelda breath of the wild itself worth getting a switch.

Well its better then Dualshock or Xbox one controllers The pro controller cost 10 more dollars then the Dualshock or Xbox one controller but the pro controller has about 40 hours of battery life and uses a USB C port to charge So in my opinion its worth the extra 10 dollars

games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe run at 1080p 60fps docked whilst still looking great, more demanding games like Zelda and Super Mario run at 900p 30fps in Zelda, 60fps in Mario. Other even more demanding games like Rocket League run at 720p docked and undocked, however this is mainly due to the Switch supporting the Unreal 4 Engine and not the Unreal 3 Engine (this is what Rocket League uses), also due to Psyonix wanting to push 60fps, rather than 30fps with better visuals. The problem isn't the lack of 4k for me, the problem is the lack of good performance even in 1080p. Zelda runs pretty poorly. You can get used to it like some people say, you won't however stop noticing it. I can't fathom how people played with 30 fps on older consoles, my eyes hurt from the lack of fluidity.

BoTW is an exception because they've increased draw distance and certain effects, the systems under-clocking is pretty much pinpoint engineered that a 1080p docked game will run the same game at 720p portable with same performance assuming no other changes are made. Of course people likely want to make other changes, but the math is actually pretty beautiful if you can dig into it.

4:24 in and I already disagree with sooo many things. The Wii U control layout would've been even worse, just like it was on the Wii U. Left stick + face buttons are the most important controls for most games. The real problem is having everything on the same vertical plane, but having the right stick and left directional buttons offset from the top controls would have added at least 2" to the width and created a lot of ugly blank space. Plus like you said, it would have made the Joy-Cons practically unusable in horizontal mode. Not sure how you can complain about the sticks being handheld grade when it's a handheld system. Putting full size analog sticks on it would have been horrible for portability. I was expecting the worst (which is why I snagged two Pro controllers) but the Joy-Cons surpassed all my expectations. The "d-pad" is actually usable for things like Shovel Knight, all the buttons/controls feel great, the shoulder buttons and triggers are all easy to reach, the strict vertical layout really isn't a big deal even in Zelda where I'm constantly riding the right stick for camera control. I thought they'd be stupidly uncomfortable in horizontal mode but it's surprisingly tolerable, especially with the caps attached. Even the Joy-Con grip is super comfortable IMO. Of course there's a blank space in the center, it's just a shell. I saw some complaints about weight in handheld mode but it's way more comfortable to hold than the 3DS XL since the weight is distributed more evenly. Seems like a lot of people just didn't temper their expectations properly. It's a home console AND a portable console, it's to be expected that it will have portable style controls and that some compromises will need to be made for the sake of portability. and since I finished watching before posting this in case you addressed any of what I said, I can't believe you were complaining about it not upscaling in docked mode when that it was confirmed months before release that it DOES upscale alright that's enough words

People are really misrepresenting the battery life of this system IMO. I get near 3 hours of Breath of the Wild, under the highest stress conditions, wifi on, and full brightness, this is basically a worst case scenario. Less intensive games, which will be a LOT of them, will likely stretch up much much higher toward that 6 hour mark Nintendo claimed. From a pure battery perspective, it all is gonna depend on what you're playing. This machine is perfectly capable of replacing a 3DS mobility wise. I mean even the New 3DS XL is only rated for I think 4-7 hours depending on the title. The Vita is also comparable.

I was a 3ds early adopter and people lamented the battery life for months, it quickly became a non-issue. All it really means is just expect to plug in from time to time. I think nintendo is smart enough and has done enough research to know that most people sit near a wall plug. Although, I'm surprised by that port placement when you leave it in kickstand mode...

While the Switch is more powerful than the Wii U, it the technological leap isn't as large as say, PS3 to PS4. Don't expect too much (but don't be pessimistic either), and just think of this as an actually portable Wii U that's slightly more powerful than the actual console. Impressive considering the size of the actual console, but still understandably pales in comparison to other platforms (you can't really jam a PS4 into an iPad shell just yet).

I don't know how I feel about the controller review, as a PC gamer myself I found these controls comfortable. I bend my thumb like I do on my mouse (Razer Naga) so its not a "new" positioning. I did HATE playing on the WII U gamepad though, reason why I skipped out on the WII U. Also I feel like the Pro controller is unnecessary since all the controller schemes that come out of the box for Nintendo Switch are comfortable to me but that's really just my opinion. Now when using a single joycon as a controller is pretty weird and attaching the the wrist strap accessory that comes with the Nintendo Switch actually helps a little. Maybe it's just me growing up with Nintendo/Sony and MMO Mouse/keyboards. My hands are just use to "different" control layouts.

Yooooooo do NOT use any random USB-C cable on your Switch. Non-Nintendo USB-C cables aren't the same. They're not standard. Standard USB-C cables have been known to fry your console. The Switch is unique and sends power in BOTH directions via the cable. Stick to Nintendo branded or 3rd party endorsed cables and avoid blowing up your Switch.

I think that holding the Nintendo Switch 's a bit of an awkward experience, but I've found it to be perfectly comfortable to play Zelda for hours. It is not as bad as you make it sound, either on mobile or on the grip. Maybe it's uncomfortable for Luke since he has big hands, but it's perfectly fine for some like me with relatively small hands. I use 5.5'" phone every day, so my hands aren't THAT small.

I have rather large hands and my dad does too. My hands are bigger than most of the teachers in my school (I'm 14) yet I find the Joycons really comfortable in 1 and 2 player modes. They did not have the rails on the Joycons which I find make a rather large difference. My dad agrees with me when I asked him what he thought after seeing many reviews stating that they are uncomfortable. I do not think that this review was very helpful or true and the Joysticks are in the right place like the X-Box one controller which is my favourite controller ever, maybe I just have very flexible hands or the people who agree aren't posting their opinions because they are happy and don't see the point in leaving a review so the bad ones come through more often. Anyway, sorry for wasting your time, but the Switch is my favourite console despite having played on everything since the Wii and PS3 and X-Box.

It doesn't work the same with 4K due to the fact you can't really see individual pixels so rather than seeming fuzzy, it gives the illusion of smoother gradiants/contrast ratio. There is also the fact LCDs have a tiny gap between the pixels, the smaller the pixels, the smaller the gap, and greater the illusion its a seamless image.

To manufacture the cartridges it takes a heck ton of money, and Nintendo also has a policy about not having the downloadable games a different price compared to their physical games. It's always kind of fun to go back and look at these initial reviews a bit after the console has launched, you see some interesting perspectives and can accurately judge the predictions they make. Praising its versatility but criticizing some of the design choices ended up being a pretty fair assessment of it, since people still don't love the JoyCons but love the fact that you can take it on the go. Battery life (which was a major concern before it launched) is rarely ever complained about these days since a lot of people play at home with the Pro Controller, which as you say is almost a necessity and is a very solid controller (that even works on PC via Bluetooth!). Online, however, is about as disappointing as people expected it to be. $20 a year is extremely reasonable, but the service is still spotty and the retro games provided are rather unimpressive, indicating that Nintendo is still living the past when it comes to online. What ended up carrying the Switch the most was its game library. People were understandably concerned (especially after the Wii U) when it only launched with a couple of games aside from BotW, several of which looked very gimmicky. But over a year and a half after launch, with games like Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Octopath Traveler, MarioKart 8, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Party, and soon to be Smash Bros. and Pokemon, there's no doubt that people who buy a Switch will have no shortage of excellent games to choose from. A key part of this was a ton of support from 3rd party developers providing games like Skyrim, Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley, Celeste, and even Doom and Wolfenstein. The Switch has become almost a haven for all different kinds of indie games, which shows from its game library reaching over 1000 games within 2 years of its release. It's proven itself to be a wonderful compromise between portable and console gaming, and it's indicative of the golden age of gaming that we live in today. As the release date for Smash Ultimate draws near, and with 2019 promising a new Fire Emblem, 2D Mario, Animal Crossing, Metroid Prime, and Pokemon, it looks as though the Switch has a bright future ahead of it.

Definitely worth it in my opinion. I find the joycons comfortable but I have small hands so I know I don’t speak for everyone. One thing I absolutely hate is that the joycons that come with the switch has buckle locks (the things that make it lock onto the switch) are made from plastic so they get worn down super quickly. I opted to have the buckle locks replaced with metal ones because I didn’t want to spend 70-80 dollars on brand new ones that would end up the same. That being said, the game library is unbeatable, you can play with family and friends on the go, you can play it in handheld, table top, and docked with a tv or monitor. 9.5/10 would recommend. Mines 5 years old and still going strong. Battery life can be an issue especially since I got the launch model.

It’s ergonomics. The grip has the joysticks going straight up and down and the handles of the grip do the same. Thumbs don’t naturally move in that fashion which is why the Pro controller, Xbox controllers, and PS4 controllers jut out the sides for the natural feel of the human hand holding it. Plus not only does the Grip controller go straight up and down, but the back of it is rounded off and not formed to be held by hands for long periods of time. There’s also other issues with the Grip controller in regards to how the L and R buttons stick out so far that your palm can hit it accidentally. If you only play for short periods of time (1-2 hours), the issues with the Grip are not as obvious. If you’re like me and play (6-9 hours) for longer periods of time, it definitely makes you want to have a different control scheme. I usually play with Joy Cons with plastic rails in place for most games.

They definitely could have arranged the joycons to be diagonal instead, but the "gap in the middle" and the "it has buttons instead of a d-pad" arguments are what make no sense to me. As brilliant as the game is, you can't just dismiss the fact that it has the worst pop ins I've seen this generation and the very noticeable frame rate dips. And this is all during docked use. Better hardware, such as an external GPU built into the dock for example, would've easily solved the low resolution and performance issues.
