Its time to make the Nintendo Switch CLEAR!!
Get the CLEAR housing HERE: amzn.to/2kf0cyN
Let me know if that link stops working or if they are sold out.
T-SHIRTS ARE HERE: jerryrigeverything.com/produc...
Turning the Nintendo Switch housing transparent is quite a project, but it is possible to turn the body into clear plastic. One screw at a time. Its nice being able to look inside the switch and see the technology at work.
Do you think Nintendo should start making their consoles clear again like they did with the older gameboy colors? Would you do this project to your Nintendo Switch?

Cool, but I don't feel I'm brave enough. But my little brother had more faith in me. Now he has cool transparent blue joycons. Damn, now I want transparent purple joycons. It took me one hour and 23 minutes to finish both joycons. I feel like I'm a good big sister, I didn't even know I could do this. Thanks for the video I couldn't do it without this good put together video. Everything came out fine.

Been meaning to type this for the longest, but I referred to this video SEVERAL times to do multiple switch case mods for customers who come into the retro game store that I work for, and I honestly want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this video. You're a real g for doing this with such brilliant filming, concise editing and dense amounts of detail. First attempt went perfectly with my atomic purple kit, looks great and I now have a d-pad on the left joycon! Even the shoulder buttons were super easy. If you're thinking about doing this to your switch and you're on the fence, I would definitely attempt this with the aid of this video. If you're not too experienced with repairing or modifying electronics, just take your time and work slowly with the video after watching it through a couple times. Good luck!

Not sure which country you're from, but in the US, the warranty is fine so long as you don't modify the hardware, and have the original casings when sending it in for warranty. Simply changing the casing DOES NOT void the warranty.

I did this in the same order, making sure to watch every step and to do them in order, starting with the left joycon. It functioned great, and it looks fantastic. PLEASE DO THAT FOR THE RIGHT JOYCON AS WELL! I ended up making the mistake of thinking that this was going to be the same kind of stuff, and it is to an extent, but it’s also got a few more parts and is more complex than the left one. And when you’re working in tight spaces, EVERYTHING has to be lined up just right or you might crush something or accidentally let something loose, and that’s exactly what I did. It can no longer connects to my switch, and because I wasn’t thinking I fully screwed the back panel onto the rest of the controller and the screws stripped so I can no longer open it to fix my mistakes, if they even can be fixed. With that, I now have to go back and get a new right joycon for $50 and get the clear joycon casings for another $20 and with tax and shipping that’s almost $88 to redo this. Make sure to set aside maybe 2-3 hours, and be really sure EVERYTHING is perfect before you fully close everything up. (Also, make sure that what you’re popping off the LZ and RZ triggers that you’re keeping your thumb over them as you’re removing them. It’s EXTREMELY hard to do, but it’s worth it. When I did it they flew away and I only found one of them. It still works perfectly fine with only one spring surprisingly, but it’s probably best to have them both inside the system as intended, you know? I also lost a couple screws, but luckily the clear shells I bought cane with some screws, but be careful! These screws are sometimes too long for certain holes, but all you need to do is get a basic pair of pliers with nippers on them and just carefully cut the tips off of them to get them the right size.) Hope all of this helped! UPDATE: I was able to open up the controller again by very carefully sanding down the tip of my Y shaped screwdriver and was able to open up all the screws. After that, I was able to instantly able to find my problem. The ribbon cable that connects the actual joycon to the tablet was slightly askew. I relieved the pressure and then pushed it all the way in, and tested it, and it worked perfectly. I was so happy to save that money. I ended up replacing the small Y shaped screws with small X shaped screws that came with the clear shells on both controllers and now it’s perfectly fine. I can open them up again with no problems if the problem ever comes back. Again, I hope this all helped. After all, I’d like to see this if I was doing this project.

@willhamilton297
@willhamilton297 4 жыл бұрын
Mario Hernandez Re open the right joy con and check the connection of every ribbon cable. My issue was similar to this one, and it was because my cable wasn’t fully pushed in all the way. It’s scary because you don’t want to force it in so hard it causes damage to the joy con, but you want to not make it so lose it won’t even connect. But yes, re open it, make ABSOLUTELY sure every cable is fully pushed in and closed down properly, and don’t screw the two halves together fully until you do a test making sure everything is working properly again. Hope this helped, good luck!

Ok thank you ill try that .but heres another thing just happened i connected a usb charger to the switch to see if my right joy con was charging .and when i took out the charger the right joy con was working fine .but when i took it off the switch it didnt work no more .so i tired charging it aging with the usb charger and it started working again .still think its the ribbon cables ? .but ill try doing what you said and give you and update .👍

Watching this after the fact, I really appreciate the context that you give to explain what various parts are for! The black padding around the joystick that you faithfully moved without being sure what it was for - it’s a dust guard :)

Hi Jerry, I just wanted to stop but and thank you for this amazing, step by step, tutorial! You explained it so extremely well and detailed! I have the same exact joycons you used for this tutorial! Honestly I never thought I’d be able to do something as complex as this but since the quarantine and me having a lot of free time, I decided to go for it! And honestly I did!! Thanks to your tutorial on the joycon replacements! Thank you so much! My Nintendo Switch looks so cool and retro!!!

Succeeded my first time swapping shells thanks to this video. I started with the left. I did not have a plastic tool to pry the battery off, so I tried to use a screw driver, the battery plug did a small little spark and the joycon died 😂😂. I went ahead and carried on so I could learn. At least I would have a better chance with the right with my knowledge. To my surprise, after putting the left joycon back together, it was perfectly fine and powered back up once connected to my switch. I learned that I did not need to disconnect a lot of stuff. On the right joycon, I only unhooked the joystick ribbon and the ribbon connecting from the RZ button to the board and then i took everything else out fully attached (the battery, rumble motor, antenna, amibo reader, etc.) it took me almost 3 hours on the left and about 20 minutes on the right. Shortcuts are great if you’re wreck less like me, but everything came out fine 😂😂 lol. If able to disconnect the battery, go for it, but everything else like the motor, antenna, amibo reader, or the plates that allow the joycon to connect to the switch don’t really need to be fully disconnected.

The one thing I'd recommend that wasn't mentioned: pulling out the trigger buttons is easier if you use your finger nail to push down the plastic casing while pulling back on the button at an angle. Many of yall will come across a problem with the right joy con not fitting right. The problem is caused by a piece of plastic being too thick on the button side of the joycon case. It's located closest to the plus button where the rail fits in. I'm surprised Zach didn't run into the problem himself. To fix: use either a razor blade or tweezers to remove the excess plastic from the lip. It's tedious, but once you scrape off enough plastic it should fit like a glove!!

I'm seeing why the Joy Cons cost like 80 bucks a pair... Been really tempted to re-shell my Switch to transparent purple to mimic the atomic purple GameBoy Color with a matching PS4 controller in lieu of the Switch Pro controller. Seeing this in depth guide really helps, makes it seem a bit less daunting since I know what to expect, doesn't make me love those little ZIF connectors though. EDIT: Went through with the swap, found one that had a d-pad for the left Joy-Con so I got that version. Had to redo some of the ribbon cables a few time since I didn't secure them or they fell loose during reassembly, so like the video says check the cables. The right Joy-Con housing isn't a perfect fit (on the one I bought, I think they're all from the same molds though). The thing closes up but you can tell it doesn't close up all the way and bulges out a bit in the front, I heard other people having this issue and some filing can help with it, but I'll save that for another time as the right Joy-Con is rather annoying to put back together. All in all I would not recommend this swap for someone who isn't comfortable with working on compact electronics like the Joy-Cons and for those people to pay someone to do it or to find a service that can swap the shell housings.
