It's probably because online play emphasises buying more systems and subscriptions which is also a big incentive for major 3rd parties who want to sell as many copies of their games as possible. If people can do local multiplayer then there's a chance they'll only buy one copy of a game to share on one system.

Music Kid I completely disagree with this. Yes, online play is awesome and enables us to play with each other from across the globe, but there have been so many times recently when I have friends over to play some games and the only games we can think of that offer local co op are a decade or more old. We all have to bring our computers to someone's place and play something online, which only lasts until the internet gives out. Local co op will never die, it's too damn fun.

Most indies were once stuck, isolated on Steam. In a way Nintendo’s nindies not only provided another platform for devs to distribute their games, the nindies showcase puts a spotlight on innovative indie games-providing much needed exposure for indies to get more recognition as a whole. Nintendo provides a good alternative, a more accessible platform, for those that don’t want to put the money and time into a PC set up for gaming to play these Indie games, and AAA titles from mainstream publishers. Nintendo Switch is simply a good alternative platform for indies to shine.

overcooked is awesome! Just "all DLC" isn't much. There was one free DLC which involed 7 christmas-styled levels and a paid one with 6 or 8 jungle based ones. But that one wasn't worth the price, as the content wasn't enough. But I want more DLC which has more in it, than just a handfull of levels and new avatars that you play through in one hour. :)

true but not that big an improvement. they have said 6 hours max life and botw has 3 hours (on just better than minimum settings) I am guessing stardew would be about 4.5 to 5 hours. but probably closer to 4.5 with 3.75 being closer to the life while playing multiplayer. but that's fine because most people will play multiplayer at home unless its Lan.

Yo they are bringing retro gaming back into the 21st century with indie developers and it looks great! I've played A LOT of indie retro games on the PC and while I like some a lot, I don't think I have EVER been this excited for retro type games. Dandara, Blastermaster Zero, Kingdom 2 crowns, Shovel knight, Shakedown Hawaii and more?! Wow... I always said they should open a development studio supporting the SNES, N64 and NES but this is a GREATER idea then that. With all the collecting going on, making a cartridge based console with handheld on the go capabilities was fantastic! Nintendo has a Winner!

I love how Nintendo is really trying to fix their biggest problem. lack of third party games. most people, even nintendo fans agree that the best reason to buy a nintendo console is for Nintendo's amazing games. this is the first nintendo console for a while that makes me want to play more of the third party games than first party. from Shovel knight, minecraft, Skyrim, Stardew Valley, Binding of issac, and about five games I'm really interested in playing from this video. It may have a weak launch, but it'll have a legendary lifecycle.

Truth is i personally don't care for indie games a lot and i'm hoping for AAA gaming on switch. Fallout/GTA/COD/RE7 and so on. I'd love to play fallout 4 on the go way more then skyrim any day of the week. The way he says "curate" seems, to me, to be a slap in the face to Steam and their uncurated marketplace. Probably the only truly major problem the PC has: so much shovelware and crapware that the Wii looks like a safe haven in comparison.

Huh? Its insanely easy to find all of these games on steam *and* you can find stuff that wasn't "curated" and might end up being something you liked but Nintendo didn't. I could see you saying that about the Android store (its pretty terrible) but Steam is extremely easy to find things in. That said I think Nintendo is making a great decision by bringing on all these traditionally PC indie games and bringing them to the Switch. It will allow them to release far more titles (a problem for the Wii U apparently) and will play to the consoles strengths. People complaining about it not having Ps4 Pro level hardware I think are missing the point. The SOC in the Switch seems plenty capable based on the game videos I've seen so far. To be perfectly honest, the graphics hardware world isn't what it was a decade ago. The image quality difference between a GTX 1050 and a Titan X is quite small considering the huge price gulf between them. Low power and "good enough" GFX hardware make perfect sense for a device like this.

Just like people have been praising the Gamecube for the past couple years and people hated on the Gamecube and called it a purple lunchbox for kids. They were too busy hating on the Wii because the media and their friends were hating on it and they couldn't think for themselves. Yes the Wii did have a lot of shovel ware as does every system. But it had a lot of games for true games and retro gamers. Not movie games and generic shooters.

All of these games look great, they also almost all look like games that benefit from playing with a D-Pad. The Joycon's don't have D-pads. Nintendo, make a Left joycon with proper D-Pads so these games (and Street Fighter) play better on the go. No, I'm not going to carry around a Pro Controller when I'm out and about.

I've never once played a game with a joystick/nub, that was intended to be used with a d-pad, and had an issue. The only genre that suffers from it would be a fighting game, and those are something that use a dedicated controller to be good at anyways.
