The chips need firmware flashing to them for the switch. They are a bit of a nemesis of mine, but I think I have finally mastered them. If you have a donor ic, it is always the way to go with that particular chip.

as mentioned, new IC's won't give you full functionality unless you flash them with the proper firmware. Best to just pull and reball from donor boards if replacing the broadcom chip. It is possible to flash the new chips with the proper FW, but it is a giant PITA.

I have been shaven headed since 1976 m8, it was the heatwave that caused for us in the SE a problem of wasps fleeing the heat thinking hair was a nice cool place to hide so everyone had their locks shorn, even girls got a french crop the wasp thing was that bad. I remember that year being on a bus and the heat of the road had melted the tyres into the tarmac hehe the bus I remember as it was the one we caught to go get me bonce down to the wood first time at the barbers... :)

wifi chips have two brands, one is broadcom and the other is cypress (cyw). any chip fits any console and revision. from my experiences they are completely compatible with each other and even between all the nintendo switch models produced. so it is possible to use the same chip for nintendo switch and switch lite (I haven't tried with nintendo switch oled yet) BUT... the wifi chips must be taken from donor boards because nintendo has programmed them to work on their consoles. any other chip that is new will not work or will have a lot of problems

the chip have to be reprogramed by Nintendo, this is why new one is not working ?

These off the shelf chips don't have Nin..do custom firmware and in most cases BT won't work. Using a donor board / chip is the easiest solution to the problem...

So after numerous chip orders, installations and failures, reballs and reflows - surely the amount of time and money invested surpasses the value of a Switch? I thoroughly enjoy the videos, but my lord, does it make sense to pay more for a repair than to just buy a new Switch?

It's a great point. We actually absorb the cost of the IC's and only charge the customer for the IC used and not the two that failed, as it's not the customers fault. In this instance meaning that the price of the repair was no way near the cost of a new Switch.
