The mid-1980s were a wasteland for the American video game market, with consumers torn between quarter-guzzling arcade machines and sub-par home consoles, such as the Atari 2600. Enter the NES from Japanese giant, Nintendo; it featured unprecedented graphics, fun characters, and great value. By the 1990s, ‘Mario’ was more recognizable than Mickey Mouse, and a third of US homes had one. And so does the Smithsonian: one of the original models, displayed at the National Museum of American History. Join us for a glimpse at a true ‘game-changer.’

@@justhereforthevideos2798 It is a strange feeling to think of a stained old regular Nintendo alongside the Spirit of St. Louis or something. What really makes me feel old, though, is seeing this stuff cycle from irrelevant to obscure to retro to trendy. Plus, I can't hunt ducks on these new fangled tvs

NHL 95 changed my life....but I was drawn to playing sports not even watching them, so id play as a kid, but id play outside 8 hours more, I never got hooked on video games, if that had a combat simulator that didn't cost over 20 grand, that they use for real with M 16 as you're joystick and you're radio, I'm out, or ill wait until they move the age up to 55 so I can reenlist again..lol driving to the range with you're load out bag in this atmosphere is a nervous ride..

I just got a New 3DS recently, specifically because I realised that my PS4 and Xbox OX are missing Nintendo's rich history of titles. The Switch just doesn't appeal to me and the 3DS is strangely the best way to enjoy classics like Ocarina of Time.
