I am very late to this but I agree. Sakurai and the development team are literally putting out the best they can with what they have at their disposal. It kinda sickens me that some bitter fans get so vitriolic to ridiculous extents. Even if certain fighters are very desirable at times to the masses. Ahem… Joker, Banjo, and Steve to name names. I should even mention characters that weren’t too desirable to fans that ended up in the game such as Incineroar, Byleth, Min Min, and Pyra/Mythra made the anger and hatred absolutely unbearable to sit through. Even though I’d love to see my most wanted character join the roster, who is Crash Bandicoot, if he does not make the cut, I am just going to cut my losses. That’s kinda why I try to not let fan speculation and consensus dictate how I feel about these characters. (Despite it being very natural that I’m going to like certain characters more than others.) I’m like “Can I just play Smash in peace without all this fan nonsense?” So yeah, I’m kinda on the same boat as Sakurai but not to the extent that he ended up getting into. I’m not sure if this seems like a fair point but hopefully you guys get what I mean.

This man's style for these videos is so unique, especially coming from Nintendo. He's incredibly forthcoming, sincere, and candid about things you'd never expect to hear from an official Nintendo channel. Stuff like "this is my house, can you believe I'm filming from here?" or " This game is for good boys and girls so Mai Shiranui couldn't be included" and "This is how these reveal movies are made, I didn't write the newest one btw!" all while he shows us his entertainment center not caring that we can clearly see he has a PS3, a PS4, a PS4 Pro, and an Xbox One X under his TVs. Its as refreshing and entertaining as it is rare. Thank you, Mr. Sakurai.

Just hope that the fanbase do not put things too much out of context to ruin his reputation. It is because of his wholesome reputation that allows him to be a bit free from Nintendo child like restrictions. Many love Sakurai because of his gamer status and very open about himself. I still remember in his first present of Hero. He admittely in the very beginning. That they did not have a budget for this and he himself would like to showcase the fighter. Because of Smash Bros. I started playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2 back in 2021, and it was actually the most amazing game I ever played. The story and memorable characters were fantastic, I like the unique battle system I’ve never seen before, and it eventually became my favorite game of all time.

The way Rex shows up in the Taunts the FS and the win screen it feels that he was considered to be playable kinda like Ice Climber or Pokemon Trainer but because of either time crunch and/or the models taking too much resources to use it was not done. It does feel that originally the plan was for Rex to be playable with switchable Pyra/Mythra a combination of Ice Climber and Pokemon Trainer but the complications mentioned meant they had to simplified the concept and made the Blades themselves playable as opposed to the Driver and Blade combination. I would have enjoyed to see how would a Driver/Blade combo might had work but I still glad we got to see Xenoblade 2 content on Smash Ultimate.
