If you have a couple bucks and a few hours I’d recommend playing DQ1 at the very least so the full impact of this story can be experienced, but if you want to just jump into this one you certainly can as a starting point Adding my longer explanation here since it won't let me comment it separately for some reason: Dragon Quest III is a prequel game with reverberations into DQI and II, however, the ideal play order is still to do it in the release order of I>II>III. Despite it being chronologically the first in the timeline, it was designed with the intention you have at least DQI under your belt going into III, as the III uses your expectations from it to fully paint and appreciate the weight and impact of the story, thematic, and lore continuation. You can still play III as your first and enjoy it fully, don’t let it stop you, but for the fullest and richest experience, it is designed and intended to be the ending point in the ongoing narrative. Every game in this trilogy is entirely standalone, you can play them in whatever order you’d like and enjoy them immensely, but if you want to pick up on all the details and really appreciate the consideration for worldbuilding and lore consistency, I (as someone who has played all these games countless times) always recommend playing DQI first for the fullest effect. DQI is also very short (6-7 hours) and very cheap and accessible on Switch or Mobile, and I find it is really interesting to follow the mechanical evolution of the series, too. Yuji Horii/the DQ team have stated virtually the same thing that I’ve said, saying that you can still experience III as your first and not be missing out- not necessarily as their primary recommendation, but rather in an effort not to scare off new players. The reality is DQIII is being released first because it’s the most popular, they started development on it first, it’s the most expansive, and will sell the best. They don’t want people to turn their heads to it because of the play order, so they are easing this concern by stating it is still beginner friendly- which is true. They've also said they will be adding in some extra little details and surprises into DQI and II HD2D to better help make the III>I>II play order more rewarding as it wasn’t the initial vision with these titles. Any major Dragon Quest fan- and I am 100% sure Horii himself- would agree the most ideal play order will always be I>II>III, but for general marketing purposes that would be fatal to the broad appeal of this game, so they’ve opted to simply reiterate that they’re standalone experiences and the connective element to them isn’t worth worrying about. I largely agree, if you want to play this game- go for it, but it is worth at least some consideration if you’re really wanting to squeeze everything out of it when you do.

Indeed! =D I can say the same for Dragon Quest XI too. That was my first Dragon Quest game. And this is my second!
@drackyslimeКүн бұрын
@@OtaruPlays III is a prequel story that has reverberations that lead into I and II. Despite it being first in the timeline, though, the intended play order to get the full effect of the trilogy is to play it in release order I>II>III. The ending of III especially is very much designed with the intention you've played DQI at the very least for the full impact. You can play and enjoy them in any order since they're largely standalone, but for the richest experience it's best to play III last. Not discouraging people from waiting on III, but worth noting- especially since I and II are very cheap and short and (in my opinion) just as good. II is my personal favorite of the trilogy, even. Because development of III HD2D started first, and because it's the most popular/will be the biggest hit sales-wise- the devs have chosen to release it first and have made some statements regarding the play order in an effort not to scare people away from starting with III when it launches. They've stated that it's still a viable entry point and you won't be losing anything by playing in III>I>II order, and to further compensate they are adding some small extra bonuses into I&II to reward people for doing in this order- but in the bigger picture I>II>III is still the purest and richest way to experience the ongoing narrative. Like I said, they are all very standalone experiences largely and it isn't a huge loss no matter what way you do it, but (as someone who has played these all of these games many times over) my recommendation would always be to at least experience the first game before III so you can see the full extent of the lore crossing over and better appreciate the scope and mechanical evolution. DQI is only a couple bucks on Switch and Mobile and you can beat the game in 6 or 7 hours so it isn't a large investment at all, either. Either way if you or anyone else are playing DQIII I hope you enjoy, and if there are any more DQ-related questions I am always happy to answer.

Welp. I wonder if this will help boost global interest? We lost most DQ mobile games (probably all of them) and the DQ3 Switch port didn't do so well at all. It's been a long time but finally this game is definitely coming. Even with the heroes being in smash ultimate and the success of DQ11, it's still not enough as DQ in general still isn't as popular as series like Resident Evil, Danganronpa and Final fantasy. (Even though some games reference DQ a lot, MDA Raincode a fine example. It's still not enough) anyway, Good luck guys. And have fun with this game when it comes out.

I'm making a fan remake in my free time, but I wish SE would do it themselves. Still hoping.

They did two rereleases of 8 and a remake of 10 already. It just ain't fair.

Question is this series is the same as FF where you can play III without having played I and II?
@madwaltz9812Күн бұрын
Short answer: Yes. Long answer: DQ1, 2, and 3 are connected stories, but playing the other games isn't important to understand any of the other games. Playing the games in different orders does change the experience a bit, but it's fairly debatable whether it makes more sense to play 1 first or 3 first from a purely narrative perspective.

As a long time DQ fan, I am not buying this because of the censorship made to the original designs and for them actively trying to silence even the creators of the game for speaking up again the censorship.

0:49 Those party members look different, does job changing in this version keep the appearance of the character's original class and just change their uniform? Does that mean a female Jester will become a blonde Sage?
@gv82089Күн бұрын
You can customize party members' appearances now

Is it weird that I prefer these old school RPGs and JRPGs over the newer ones, I still like the new ones but these just seem more better to play
@MysteryEzekude17 сағат бұрын
I feel the same way. I don’t think this feeling is weird at all. In fact, it’s common for some people to prefer retro and vintage stuff over modern and contemporary stuff. =)
