The NES version of Tournament Fighters is an impressive bit of work. It might've been the console's only SF2-style fighter, but it was a good one.

I 'think' there might have been a few Famicom games like that - for example Fighting Road and some Yu Yu Hakusho/Dragon Ball games... but yeah, there were very few of them overall. My favourite one must have been Joy Mech Fight though!

@@NintendoComplete I was very impressed that they pulled off with this game. I find this superior over the SuperNes version just because the devs put so much effort in creating a game for an older system that we could enjoy playing over and over again. A true test of skills for us kids back then. We would literally have tournaments with kids of other neighborhoods just to be named champion. I truly love this game. It will always be special to me 😊

0:23 - "The Turtles receive a strange letter..." How do you mail something to the sewer? And if Shredder has their address, why doesn't he just go there and kill them? Questions that probably should not be asked in a game concerning pizza-eating turtles who practice ninjitsu.

I also love the intricate plot they've woven here lol. Am I supposed to believe Shredder would declare a tournament to fight the Turtles and actually fight fair, and not bring any reinforcements? Just an overconfident attitude like, "You've beaten me many times before, when I had weapons and backup and schemes and traps, but NOW in a one-on-one fair fight, I will def win for sure this time yup uh huh." Also, the Turtles had no reason to suspect Shredder would fight fair. I know, I'm over-thinking it, but it just made me laugh :'D

I remember playing this game all day long with all of my school friends. Only one guy from our group had a gaming console. So we used to get 3 months of summer holidays and it used to be blazing hot outside in the afternoon. All the group member would meet up at this rich dudes place, then sit in front of the cooler and play this game all day long till evening. Everyone just kept picking shredder and spammed that overpowered barrage move. So we had to ban it permanently. In the evening we would play cricket before heading to the local eatery for ice creams and other fun treats. The world was a lot less complicated back then, life was very simple. So much stuff happens these days. Life feels very fast, involved and competitive. I am 23 now. Have been grinding for past couple of years to make a good life for myself. I don't know when I will land a job, let alone a decent one. Recession and over population has led to rampant unemployment in my country. I am just a simple guy. Good at what I do. But not having a job, not having a girlfriend, not getting to talk to friends since everyone is busy and away is stressful. I feel very lonely these days. But I dream for a better future. I keep working and grinding. Maybe sometime in the future, on some sunday, I will be relaxing with my wife by my side and playing this game with my son.
