Ahhhhhhh 😮 the NNNNOOOOOOOOOSSSSTTTTTAAAALLLGIIIAAA! really takes me back to a beautiful world, a beautiful time to live oh how I miss these long gone years. Never played it on Sony PlayStation 2, never knew of its existence and buying the console on launch day back in the year 2000, owned games on Windows, and what made it all better was owning the Dreamcast version back in 09.09.99 was bundled with the Dreamcast QWERTY keyboard. Owned the launch model aka. The revision which SEGA forgot your add anytime of copy protection, didn’t do me any good had to run to Circuit City and buy and replace the console. This was the other special edition, not the all black SEGA SPORTS, version but the version that had the sega smash pack (volume 1 or 2 don’t remember) but this game did something typing class in the 9th grade couldn’t teach me, went from 24 WPM to a blistering 99.7 WPM! Needs to be remastered! Would be nice if the new remake of The House Of The Dead bundled a remake into the DLC Fold

This port makes me both kinda smile... but at the same time I'm somewhat angry at SEGA for not making a GunCon 2 HotD2, they made Virtua Cop, so why not this? It's essentially already done but they just needed to add the GunCon 2 support, oh well, at the very least Typing of the Dead is a funny game to play, even if this is probably not the best version for the average baka gaijin out there.

I've always wanted to see how House of the Dead 2 looked on PlayStation 2 hardware! So any clue as to why you think we've never got this released in the west for PS2 owners? (Yeah i know you can always get a used Dreamcast and the game this way) but for those who'd never bought the Dreamcast and gotten a PlayStation 2 instead would have missed out.

Because this version was possibly a special case, as it was a learning tool for people in Japan who wanted to improve typing in English.

Jeremy Riley It wasn't meant to teach anything about English as far as I can tell. The main reason for the romaji is because when you type in Japanese, you don't have a key dedicated to every character (or at least that's not how most people use them anymore). You type it phonetically on a standard qwerty layout, and as it recognizes the phoenemes you type, it'll display the appropriate character on-screen. The romaji here is the input that would produce the text in yellow on any Japanese device with a standard keyboard.

I can't type the "-" or hyphen in this game, whenever I press that key it tells me that it is incorrect, I use a Genius USB keyboard, any other key works fine

If that happens again, just look up the Japanese keyboard layout and find those buttons on there. Then hit the corresponding ones on your own keyboard. Many different languages on keyboards change the placement of the punctuation mark keys.

Porting a version of their light gun game that require keyboard to play on PS2... They could've easily release a version that supports GunCon 2 but chose not to. Their beef with PS2 is still strong with this game.

I dont recall specifically, but that option in Japanese software usually refers to how you want to type in Japanese. It allows you to switch between phonetic spelling using the Latin QWERTY setup or to type using keys each assigned to specific kana characters that are printed alongside the ABC characters on Japanese keyboards.

Seems like this game is using double buffered Vsync. They should have gone with Triple buffer vsync or Vsync off because the game is struggling to maintain locked 60 FPS and keeps dropping to 30 FPS because of double buffered vsync which causes way too much stutters compared to triple buffered vsync.

They also fucked up with the textures on this port. The dreamcast version is the only way to see it how the developers intended. Even the pc fucked up on some of the brick work.

If you played The House of The Dead 2, you'll see the story is the same. This game was designed to help Japanese people with typing English. Also, the game has English voices with Japanese subtitles.

Not automatically. You'd need to do some sort of modification to your system to disable the region lock or use something like a Swapmagic disc
