The difference between the NES versions of 1942 and 1943 is night and day, thank God. This was a massive improvement.

Goes to show if you want a game ported right, you gotta do it yourself. And it seems Micronics has a reputation for bad NES ports. Ghosts N Goblins and Athena seem to be examples.

I love how all the battleships in the game are based off of real models. If you look up diagrams of them, these renditions are surprisingly accurate! If you want to know what the real names are, they're the following: *Rikaku* IJN Tone Cruiser *Kaku* IJN Kaga Aircraft Carrier *Ayako I* Nakajima G8N Long-Range Bomber *Kakushi/Chojin* IJN Fuso Battleship (The second ship you face.) *Kyoshu* IJN Akagi Aircraft Carrier *Ganryo/Bunshu* A fleet of Mitsubishi Ki-67 Bombers *Choko* IJN Ise Battleship (The second ship you face.) *Roshuku* IJN Hiryu Aircraft Carrier *Ayako II/Ayako III* Prototype Nakajima G10N Ultra-Long-Range Bomber (Note that these models are supposed to have 6 engines rather than 4. They did in the arcade versions, but they probably couldn't replicate it on NES due to the sprite limitations. The 8-sprite scanline limit is already taken up by the 4 propellers/flames, meaning that any more than that would result in a flickery mess.) *Kayu/Ryofu* IJN Mutsu Battleship *Riju* IJN Soryu Aircraft Carrier *Totaku* IJN Yamato Battleship

I really think this game was way ahead of its time. You had to track down and locate those hidden flowers, then experiment somewhat with the upgrade path to get the best bang fur your buck. RPG-lite mechanics are in everything nowadays, but for Capcom to include them in an standard vertical shooter in 1988 was extraordinary! But it was so far ahead of its time it was never really worked into the genre until recently. And that’s a shame because it really is a fantastic mechanic.

It's interesting how very few of Capcom's arcade tie-ins were straight up ports, as if they actually understood how the home console market was changing in the late 1980s and gamers wanted depth in their investments.

Pro Tip: If you get the scatter gun shotgun special weapon, the first option after you shoot the power up icon, it destroys enemy bullets as well. If you pick it up again, your get your main weapon back and the shotgun effect is wider does more damage but is angled away from the center of your aim. I love it.❤😇

I was disappointed the second Flak cannon powerup wasn't got. Longer range wider spread, with the forward shot now going full screen, and still keep the ability to shoot down bullets, with the only downsides being weaker power and putting up with horrible spread on the first pickup until you get it again. It's why I don't invest in Special Weapons until all other stats are maxed, and my starting stat points all go into SW Timer. Also, it doesn't look like you figured out where the hitbox is on Ayako- it's between the two engines on both sides, not near the middle (the tail is designed to block shots, why it gets bigger to obscure more of the hitbox). If your laser went down the middle without touching the two hitboxes, you would do no damage.

@jurandirpinheiro854 Жыл бұрын
The most contradictory thing about this game is that 1943 is a game created by the Japanese that exalts one of the greatest defeats of the Japanese navy in all times. This proves that in 1987, the year the game was created, the trauma of the 2nd World War had already been overcome, and, even at that time, relations between the United States and Japan were already very friendly.
@beyondobscure18 күн бұрын
There were some protests by the Japanese right wing over it, so perhaps not fully. The developer in response claimed, to paraphrase Wikipedia, "hat the protest touched their hearts, that it was wrong for Japanese citizens to make a game to defeat the Japanese Navy, and that he had been too young to be aware of that. He also said that it was to make the game successful to set the player on the winner of the war, and that the setting was a fantasy as it was far from historical accuracy with the airplanes of the Navy and the Army mixed up and the final boss being battleship Yamato, which in reality did not participate in the Battle of Midway."
@eternalgreed8935 Жыл бұрын
this final stage bosses is made in a horrible way in my opinion, you fight bosses for a long time and it's so long that you will eventually do the final boss with no special weapon and no timer, which makes it a true pain to defeat
