I remember playing this s a kid I love Sega Saturn

While it's not quite as atmospheric and foreboding as the original, fans of the Sega CD game will surely appreciate the hugely improved graphics and the same simple but effective gameplay mechanics.
@boynextdoorman7 жыл бұрын
It's not mid-'90s without these cutting edge CGI and hammy voice acting. Can you believe this was the state-of-the-art technology only 20 years ago?
@tgreaux50273 жыл бұрын
More like 25-26 years at the time of your comment and now its just under 30 years ago.......so yes. I can absolutely believe that. Take a look at the console generation right before the first CD based consoles came out.....it was absolutely a huge leap. Go back 25 years from the day these games were made and youd be looking at the Atari 2600 and the Commodore 64. The leap in tech is wayyy bigger between those years than it is from the Sega CD/Saturn years to today. I remember the first time I saw actual video and real people in a video game, my mind was blown. Sega CD was one of my favorite consoles of all time.

I've noticed in a lot of play through of this game, no one goes into the room under the stairs and triggers the event with the painter. I forget how to trigger it myself, but I know I did it when I was younger. Update: I know it's been two years, but After you get the watch you can trigger the painter to appear. Also, if you are really bad at answering questions he shows up to give you a bad ending and a game over.
@sonyblank1487 Жыл бұрын
Yeah. Using the under-the-stairs shortcut after entering Elder's room (once his room is pure energy) will trigger the painter ending.

Quick question: How do you track down your own comment two years after?
@Nocturne_Duskclaw7 ай бұрын
@@Ace_of_DiscaLI remembered I commented on this game and went back to it, but for a more practical and useful solution there's a place in your settings or library for KZbin that keeps track of your comments until you clear it out.

One thing I do recall of this game is that the music was composed by a Studio Ghibli musician, Yuji Nomi, which is a really strange pull but the budget must have been tight if they could only afford 5-second loops. This game haunts me in a very specific part of my brain, I don't think it's a good game but it definitely captivated me with its bizarre imagery.

let me get this straight: this game is a proper sequel, not a port from the previous Sega CD game, and to show that they put a "The" on the title? Amazing.

Still makes you wonder why games like Sam and Max Hit the Road, Day of the Tentacle, and Full Throttle were never ported to home systems at the time. I mean, we got 2 Discworld games on the PS1 with full voice acting. Instead we got stuff like this, and while I actually quite enjoy this game and the other cheesy ones like it, it would have been great to get what the PC players were enjoying.

learn what an apostrophe means? and learn to write '90s
@MikeMassey19832 ай бұрын
You forgot to capitalize the “L” in “learn.” And you made a statement so you should use a period instead of a question mark. You did not capitalize the first letter of your 2nd sentence. You also forgot the period after the 2nd sentence.

The Sega CD version was eerie, atmospheric and melancholic. This version is saturated by excessive voices and explanations. Even with its inferior graphics, the Sega CD game provided a deeper emotional experience. Of course, people growing up with this one will find it more robust and visually appealing.

Glad to know I got the "true" ending for the Saturn version, but I still have absolutely zero clue wtf happened beyond the Tower guy being bad for some reason.
@Viczarratt5 жыл бұрын
You are correct on that this is not a remake of the sega cd game, in fact the PAL and japanese version of both games are different. for PAL, the sega cd game is named Yumeni Mystery Mansion, while the saturn game is called The Mansion of Hidden Souls.

I played it in the mid 90s on Sega Saturn and it was kinda scary. Wasn't it possible to trigger a scene, where some one is shooting a pistol? Or maybe my memory is wrong. Also this reminds me of Resident Evil 1.

Is the music redbook or ssf?
@Viczarratt5 жыл бұрын
The music in this game are raw samples in 16bit stereo, possibly at 44k or 22k and it has no header. they are short samples looped continuously. if you are fairly technical, you can place the original Saturn disc in a windows PC and use audacity to extract the raw files and convert them to wav or mp3. the files are in a folder named "sound" and there are 442 files in it, because all the spoken dialogue is in there as well.

It's so lame how their mouths are not at all synchronized to the voice at all, not even the Godzilla effect. It's like the old adventure games where you read what the character is saying as their mouths move in a uniform manner or like those cheap talking dolls where the mouth just opens and closes as the recording inside the doll plays.
