We are building a small ger at the Guru Eco Camp so we can see the set-up process. The ger will be taken apart the next day; it's just a demonstration.

Modern stretch covers like what is used on vehicle covers could be made and treated with ultra ever dry that could weather proof a yurt yet allow it to breath.

Hey, is it possible to use some of your video from Mongolia in a movie for children about how to build a yurt? This is a non-commercial film that will be shown in children's associations and kindergartens in Norway.

NEVER step on the threshold of the door when you enter a ger - it means you are stepping on the throat of your host. Men enter to the left and women to the right.
@NancyIoannidis3 ай бұрын
That's very interesting and good to know... I would never want to give the impression of stepping on my host's throat! Plus, it would not be smart to eat any of the offerings after that😅 Thank you for the info😊👋

What is the difference between a Ger and a Yurt ?
@NancyIoannidis5 жыл бұрын
Mongolian gers have beam supports for the roof crown wheel so they can have a less steep roof than yurts which have no support.

Where is the running water supply?.
@NancyIoannidis4 жыл бұрын
At the time the people we visited were bringing water manually from a main station. The tourist gers had functional bathrooms, but we walked to the showers. It actually was fun seeing each other going over with the towels over our shoulders. The weather was nice and it was a unique situation for a short time - we may feel different long term 😉

This was only for demonstration purposes. I was not fortunate enough to see close-up an actual ger being set up, only from the roadside. It would have been great to see a blessing of a new ger, but in any case, I really enjoyed spending the nights of our trip in these authentic structures.

There is still room to improve the making. Instead of using cotton top, they should use tarpaulin to make it water proof.

Lady at 6:00 doesn't look good. She looks like she's ready to fall over. Probably a democrat too. Where do they get all this stuff for the Ger? Is there a Home Depot on the other side of the mountain?
@NancyIoannidis5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the Yurt Depo 😊Actually, there was a section of the market dedicated to products such as these, as well as stir ups, horse harnesses, and Mongolian boots! I know you are joking, but I felt privileged to see authentic goods like these being sold for use instead as tourist items. Things were changing, so it may be not this way anymore.
