one detail to remember, it isn't imbue corruption that allows for soul cores to be used in Soul Match it is Demon Weapons which will always have imbue corruption. So weapons like Seething Dragon, Yanaba's Knives, and so one you can use the cores, but weapons like Quaking Tonfas with imbue corruption won't work.

I'm 4 years late getting into this game but this changed my entire experience. I was a heavy build with the Odachi and Dual axes who was also trying to put points into Ninja stuff and I decided to respec and go full ninja with the Tokagemaru w/corruption and the Kusarigama w/ imbue purity. I also have super lightweight armor which allows me to move in to get hits and dodge far away with the running water skills which gives a much needed Ki pulse so I can rinse and repeat. I just did that side mission where you take on 2 mini bosses and the big horse guy from the first mission as well as a few smaller enemies. I was really struggling and had to use the item to quit out and finally came back with the right ninja build and beat it first try. This video gave me so much info that I was completely unfamiliar with. I would've likely got towards the end game and quit due to my character being weak from putting too many points into stats I didn't need and now I only level up the stuff that effects my build and the game is a night and day difference. Thanks for letting me enjoy Nioh 2 the way it was intended!!

Last game I was a single sword and spear build. I guess I am old school as I love my basic single swords. However, this time around I went with "dual-swords" and Spear as I remember the last game had some amazing Dual-swords I wanted to use. Love how you can use any weapon you want because you will get "points" for any specific weapon you are using to get skills with. Of course the more you use a specific weapon the more points you are going to have to spend on it. Still cool how you can "experiment" more with different weapons in this game.

Great guide! The only suggestion I would have is possibly mentioning Toughness in the opening alongside Gear Weight, since those are the two stats you're really balancing against each other - I personally lean toward a block-centric playstyle, so balancing B agility with A toughness basically defines my early gear picks. Still, so much useful here that helped me out!

Thanks a Lot Cowboy. Its been a long wait for this game. all your tips are very helpful! The Scythe is too Good :D still love my dual swords, but the scythe is just OP, unending attack by swapping around mid combo to chain. I also use dual axe as secondary for throwing - long range damage or pulls without wasting items. A good early set would be Shrine Maiden (gives decent healing everytime you purify yokai realms) combined with Master of Archery (just the dual sword and bow for 2xset).

Not super important, but just a head's up on toughness: green (100) is at the point in which you can start blocking attacks without your Ki getting annihilated, and it scales up with toughness. Blue (200) is when you gain hyper armor and can take at least one normal attack without being interrupted. By humans at least in the first game. They might have added yokai in the second, since those can be parried now, and they couldn't before.

Got the game yesterday and I was trying to build a Katana/Scythe user but no way man, I was so used to my build in Nioh 1 (Double swords/Kusarigama/Axe) that I find the Katanas way too slow and I kept on dying on the first stage. I'm rerolling into my old build today because "if it's not damaged, why trying to fix it?". Great video, thanks for the help.

Beginners: Just stick to 1 weapon, then mess around with the 3 stances. You can happily play the entire game with just 1 weapon type.

billygoods22 I’m switching back and forth from switchglaive and tonfa Tonfa is for draining enemy ki fast And switchglaive is for general combat and damage

I hope there is a build like the ninja shuriken kunai one in first Nioh where I dont have to know how to play the game :)

I main scythe, I just use dual axes to throw from long distance then switch back to main weapon when I need to deal big long range damage or pull without wasting items. Dual axe at least has some purpose as a secondary weapon that way.

MrSuckeragi My main is the switchglaive for general use My secondary weapon I use for single targets and bosses is the tonfa

Man, I am playing Nioh for the fist time. It is so overwhelming. So many mechanics. I just finished the main missions and started watching cowboy guides just now because I wanted to experience it for the first time by myself. But I gotta say , if had known some of this information before my life would have been so much easier. Well... there's always new+. Loving this game.

Seriously this is soooo overwhelming. I thought this game was similar'ish to dark souls, and while it definitely sorta is, there's sooo many more mechanics going on!!

Familiarity bonus is the only other thing I think you didn't mention. Which is more late game smithing. Great guide as always your content is the best for Nioh.

Dammit forgot to mention maxing that for inheritables.
