The Union Budget 2025-26 does not include any special "one-time package" for Assam. There are no major announcements addressing the state's fundamental issues. Specifically, there are not enough new opportunities for indigenous Assamese OBC, General category people, and the simple-living middle-class Assamese population. Key areas where Assam expected benefits but did not receive them: No special reservation or opportunities for OBC and General category Assamese in government jobs. No specific provisions for promoting industries and businesses in Assam. Lack of significant investment for the development of local production and the agricultural sector. No announcement of any "Mega Employment Package" for job creation for Assamese youth. No scholarships or financial aid for meritorious OBC/General Assamese students. No separate announcements for new highways, railways, or bridges in the state. Many crucial issues remain unaddressed for the indigenous Assamese OBC and General category population. If the government continues on this path, outsiders may dominate Assam’s economy and job market. The government must focus more on making indigenous Assamese people self-reliant.
