I was 6 years old when Kurt Cobain departed from this earth I am 34 now. But It's incredible to see young people who weren't even born when Kurt died listening to his music, wearing Nirvana t-shirts and hoodies. It goes to show that good music never dies!!

Kurt hated Aberdeen? I really don’t think you know exactly how he felt. Regardless, it is his hometown, and I paid my respects. Clearly the town of Aberdeen also has love and appreciation for Kurt. I believe everyone has a love hate relationship with their hometown, but it will never not be his hometown.
@GetSicRiCH
@GetSicRiCH 5 жыл бұрын
Have you even ever been to Aberdeen? If not, you should take a trip there and see how the town is in person. It has a unique energy. I think growing up poor in small western Washington mountain town creates a certain level of isolation but also breeds creativity. Yes the town was very poor, yes he had a shitty childhood in Aberdeen, but without his past in Aberdeen, I really don’t believe that Nirvana would exist now.

Kurt's suicide devastated me. I had just come out of the hospital from an attempted suicide myself and was listening to the radio when they announced he was gone. A beautiful and gentle soul. Nirvana's music changed the world. He never wanted be called a voice of our generation, but his hurt and pain has carried so many people through out the years. Goodbye to a true Punk God. When I was a kid in the 90s I listened to my older cousin practicing this song a lot in his basement bedroom. I was like 7 and terrified to go down there, but I eventually went into his 'cave'. I thought he was so cool, I was mesmerized but a little bit terrified. He died of an overdose two years ago, but the chords of this song always remind me of him. Always enticing me to conquer my fears. I wish I could have saved you man.

Nirvana playing this song on D tuning instead of standard E, really gives this song this haunting feel that penetrates deep into your soul. It's lower in pitch, less bright, deeper.
@royercrafter

nirvana were masters of beauty in simplicity. that simple chromatic run from D to E, then a minor third E to G, then back to D, and up a fifth to A. So simple yet hypnotic. Them bones by alice in chains does something similar. Music like this will never be popular again. Sure, you have the extremely technical bands such as animals as leaders or polyphia, but they will never reach the heights of popularity and influence Nirvana did.

@@Soothing432saul goodman, I didnt meant to flex or anything, just add to your comment and dig a bit deeper into what makes the main riff a timeless one. for the record, playing a note and always coming back to it is something that has been done since time inmemorial in the middle east and the india, they are the masters and creators of this feel. Tool does the same thing, in drop D as well funny enough.

Totally agree with you !! I already posted a comment on that about one year ago. But it was on the Lithium video clip. 3 songs are in D tuning on the record. Come as you are, Lithium and Drain you. I've been wondering who took the decision to record them in D for ages. Can't find the answer anywhere... Butch Vig, The band, Cobain... sounds like I will never know :-)

Fact for those watching: According to Dave Grohl (Nirvana’s drummer, current Foo Fighters lead man) in his new book, by this point, Kurt had begun to use heroin often, and had a very frail appearance. It’s harder to notice with the old cameras here. He says it’s hard for him to watch this video since he can clearly see Kurt’s state unlike the average person watching the video. RIP Kurt 😔

Oh, it was worse than that bro. This video was shot in spring 1992 when Nevermind was the #1 album and Nirvana-mania was sweeping the world. Ordinarily when a band has an album become a mega hit like Nevermind did in the winter of 1991-92, they relentlessly tour it to try to sustain it's momentum. Nirvana didn't. More appropriately, they couldn't. They couldn't tour their Earth-shaking album because Kurt couldn't go on the road with a heroin dependency he'd never be able to maintain by being in a new city every night. Kurt spent the early months of 1992 in a cheap, run-down Los Angeles apartment with Courtney Love despite already having money to burn by that time. According to Courtney, Kurt didn't want to do anything but have sex, shoot heroin, paint crappy little pictures, and scribble incoherent ramblings/lyrics in his notebook. *Here's how bad it actually was:* Those shots of him swinging from the chandelier aren't actually Kurt- it's a 14 yr old boy dressed up to look like him. Those scenes of the band playing their instruments as the water rushes over the lens was actually unused footage NBC shot that previous December for the promotional material of Nirvana's Saturday Night Live appearance. They needed that waterfall to obscure Kurt's face for the 'Come As You Are' video. Otherwise, you would've clearly been able to see Kurt's mouth singing the lyrics to a different song instead. Same goes for the end when the band is lying on the ground and Kurt army crawls in for an extreme close-up. That had to be purchased from NBC/SNL too in order to repurpose it into a music video. The director for 'Come As You Are' had to actually go to Kurt's apartment to film his singing scenes. All those fisheye lens close-ups of Kurt being projected onto a back wall were shot outside his apartment on the causeway in 5-10 minutes. If you were able to zoom out and see everything around him, you would've seen the door to his apartment just a few feet away. Kurt literally walked outside, stood up against the wall for a few minutes mouthing the lyrics, and turned around and went right back inside in the time it takes to smoke a cigarette. If you pay close attention, images of Kurt & the band are actually limited here. There's a lot of space being filled with images of babies and sperm cells swimming instead. That's no accident.

I was lucky to be 15 when this came out. Saw them live 2 months before Kurt passed away. Was 3 metres from him on that concert. We really loved their music, dressed like them, long hairs, the whole grunge thing..I turned 18, 2 weeks after he died. Rock music world was never quite the same after 94 (not because he died, maybe a coincidence). At the time we were all into Doors, Zeppelin and also had all these great bands kicking ass and releasing new songs. So great to have been 15-18 yrs old between 1991-94.
