Kurt hated Aberdeen? I really don’t think you know exactly how he felt. Regardless, it is his hometown, and I paid my respects. Clearly the town of Aberdeen also has love and appreciation for Kurt. I believe everyone has a love hate relationship with their hometown, but it will never not be his hometown.
@GetSicRiCH5 жыл бұрын
Have you even ever been to Aberdeen? If not, you should take a trip there and see how the town is in person. It has a unique energy. I think growing up poor in small western Washington mountain town creates a certain level of isolation but also breeds creativity. Yes the town was very poor, yes he had a shitty childhood in Aberdeen, but without his past in Aberdeen, I really don’t believe that Nirvana would exist now.

When I was a kid in the 90s I listened to my older cousin practicing this song a lot in his basement bedroom. I was like 7 and terrified to go down there, but I eventually went into his 'cave'. @Britton_Thompson3 жыл бұрын
Oh, it was worse than that bro. This video was shot in spring 1992 when Nevermind was the #1 album and Nirvana-mania was sweeping the world. Ordinarily when a band has an album become a mega hit like Nevermind did in the winter of 1991-92, they relentlessly tour it to try to sustain it's momentum. Nirvana didn't. More appropriately, they couldn't. They couldn't tour their Earth-shaking album because Kurt couldn't go on the road with a heroin dependency he'd never be able to maintain by being in a new city every night. Kurt spent the early months of 1992 in a cheap, run-down Los Angeles apartment with Courtney Love despite already having money to burn by that time. According to Courtney, Kurt didn't want to do anything but have sex, shoot heroin, paint crappy little pictures, and scribble incoherent ramblings/lyrics in his notebook. *Here's how bad it actually was:* Those shots of him swinging from the chandelier aren't actually Kurt- it's a 14 yr old boy dressed up to look like him. Those scenes of the band playing their instruments as the water rushes over the lens was actually unused footage NBC shot that previous December for the promotional material of Nirvana's Saturday Night Live appearance. They needed that waterfall to obscure Kurt's face for the 'Come As You Are' video. Otherwise, you would've clearly been able to see Kurt's mouth singing the lyrics to a different song instead. Same goes for the end when the band is lying on the ground and Kurt army crawls in for an extreme close-up. That had to be purchased from NBC/SNL too in order to repurpose it into a music video. The director for 'Come As You Are' had to actually go to Kurt's apartment to film his singing scenes. All those fisheye lens close-ups of Kurt being projected onto a back wall were shot outside his apartment on the causeway in 5-10 minutes. If you were able to zoom out and see everything around him, you would've seen the door to his apartment just a few feet away. Kurt literally walked outside, stood up against the wall for a few minutes mouthing the lyrics, and turned around and went right back inside in the time it takes to smoke a cigarette. If you pay close attention, images of Kurt & the band are actually limited here. There's a lot of space being filled with images of babies and sperm cells swimming instead. That's no accident.

Nirvana playing this song on D tuning instead of standard E, really gives this song this haunting feel that penetrates deep into your soul. It's lower in pitch, less bright, deeper.

nirvana were masters of beauty in simplicity. that simple chromatic run from D to E, then a minor third E to G, then back to D, and up a fifth to A. So simple yet hypnotic. Them bones by alice in chains does something similar. Music like this will never be popular again. Sure, you have the extremely technical bands such as animals as leaders or polyphia, but they will never reach the heights of popularity and influence Nirvana did.

Epic for sure, a masterpiece im not so sure. Nutshell by AIC is a masterpiece. Dynamic vocals and soul piercing lyrics. Teen spirit was such a mainstream hit that Kurt disliked it because it took attention away from their other songs.

As someone who was born after Kurt Cobain died believe me when i say, this is an all time classic song and band. R.I.P Kurt.

If you want to have your mind blown , listen to the song "Where is my mind " from the Pixies. A song that was released in 1988 !! They were the front runner of alternative rock/punk. Kurt Cobain said he got inspired by this band and when you listen to the song you will see how similar it is.
