This song has the same bass line as "Eighties" by Killing Joke and "Life Goes On" by The Damned. A comment I read once said the bass line goes as far back as "Hollow Hills" by Bauhaus, but it's hard to tell since it's the slowest of the four songs. I recommend checking them out if you're interested :)

I fucking hate people who says that nowdays music is garbage. I mean there are tons of great music being made, but it isn't very popular, or you can't hear it on the radio. If song hasn't million+ views on youtube it doesn't mean that it's not a decent or good track. It's time to look up for some good music by yourself. We have alot of good music nowdays, you are just to narrow minded to know that.

@@Nana7ZX most old music has real instruments like drums bass guitar, good lyrics and yeah a good vibe, most new music doesn't use much real instruments and is mainly electronically produced and have pretty crappy lyrics. I feel like a lot of music now is made with more money in mind than actual love for music.

Kurt's suicide devastated me. I had just come out of the hospital from an attempted suicide myself and was listening to the radio when they announced he was gone. A beautiful and gentle soul. Nirvana's music changed the world. He never wanted be called a voice of our generation, but his hurt and pain has carried so many people through out the years. Goodbye to a true Punk God. Rest in peace.

KZbin recommended this to me after listening to System of a Down. I was hesitant to listen to Nirvana as it would remind me of my late wife who passed in 2021. She introduced me to this band and listening to music of that time period hurt as it was part of what brought us together. System of a Down served as an outlet for my anger at the world but when I heard Nirvana it just hit me differently and harder than anything. This is still such a hard song in more ways than one and I am so thankful for it

Nirvana playing this song on D tuning instead of standard E, really gives this song this haunting feel that penetrates deep into your soul. It's lower in pitch, less bright, deeper.

nirvana were masters of beauty in simplicity. that simple chromatic run from D to E, then a minor third E to G, then back to D, and up a fifth to A. So simple yet hypnotic. Them bones by alice in chains does something similar. Music like this will never be popular again. Sure, you have the extremely technical bands such as animals as leaders or polyphia, but they will never reach the heights of popularity and influence Nirvana did.

@@Soothing432saul goodman, I didnt meant to flex or anything, just add to your comment and dig a bit deeper into what makes the main riff a timeless one. for the record, playing a note and always coming back to it is something that has been done since time inmemorial in the middle east and the india, they are the masters and creators of this feel. Tool does the same thing, in drop D as well funny enough.

Totally agree with you !! I already posted a comment on that about one year ago. But it was on the Lithium video clip. 3 songs are in D tuning on the record. Come as you are, Lithium and Drain you. I've been wondering who took the decision to record them in D for ages. Can't find the answer anywhere... Butch Vig, The band, Cobain... sounds like I will never know :-)

@@simonfrancoise4869 they were probably experimenting with different tunings while playing so some songs were "born" with E and some with D .
