Nirvana's music is so beautiful. This song is almost otherworldly to me. It's so fascinating, this sound. I can't even fathom how Cobain could have thought of this. He was truly meant to be a musician, so much talent. Beautiful.

Kurt was one million percent a musical genius and great artist all round. This fact haunts me as a musician every day like he set such an impossibly high standard of songwriting it kind of makes every other band seem like a joke in comparison. And I don’t care if anyone says he ripped off other songs, if he did it was just for a skeletal form to use for his own highly advanced Melodie’s which in every case of supposed rip offs absolutely annihilate the originals. In fact when I checked it all the songs people claim he ripped off I walked away from it thinking Kurt was like a therapist for abused music and saved so many good riffs from bad songs and gave them a proper place in eternity. I think HSB may be the best example of Kurt’s genius at work too because it specifically was intended to be the first big single of their new album. Coming after the success of Nevermind songs which were written pre massive fame. So it’s pretty damn fascinating to imagine where Kurt was at writing after Nevermind tours were over etc and he had time alone at home and in motels. He knew he had to deliver the goods, maybe he even toyed with selling out and writing a copycat teen spirit? But ultimately the artist won him over and he went far into it with such an odd unusual song like this and it must have thrown contemporaries for a loop like crazy. They were expecting something like Nevermind. They got this, that doesn’t sound at all like anything on Nevermind even though it refuses a simple chord pattern used in two Nevermind songs (in bloom, territorial pissings). It sounds like some dark gothic demented country song in the verses
