Rendition is the 4th studio album by American grunge-band Nirvana, released on February 20th, 1995. It would be fairly popular amongst fans and praised by critics.
The album introduced a new sound Kurt envisioned for the then future Nirvana album. He stated in an interview once in 1994
“We’re the kind of band to kinda..experiment, if you know what I mean, and we’re sort of working on that, and maybe one day we could try new sounds and probably move on to a more of a somber kind of music”.
The band would decide to reunite in the studio after a short hiatus and would start producing the album in late 1994. The band started recording at Jukebox City Studios, they would try older songs such as “Old Age” “Bed of Thorns” and “Me and My IV”. They’d also include “Stinking of You” a Kurt and a Courtney duet song recorded back in 1992.
The critics described the album as a “sort of departure from their angsty sound” and “introduced another side of Cobain they’ve never heard”. It would reach number 6 in the charts and “Me and My IV” would become the most popular song from the album so as” “Old Age”, “Poisons Gone” and Etc.
Although there would be no tour to promote the Album, the band would perform some songs live during their Onism Tour and play them in their acoustic sets. Cobain would later state this was his favorite and yet proud project the band had created.
