Apparently Bowie liked Kurt's version. "I was simply blown away when I found that Kurt Cobain liked my work, and have always wanted to talk to him about his reasons for covering 'The Man Who Sold the World'" and that "it was a good straight forward rendition and sounded somehow very honest. It would have been nice to have worked with him, but just talking with him would have been real cool." Bowie called Nirvana's cover "heartfelt". "If the mark of a good cover is that people do not even realize it's a cover, Nirvana certainly did a good job"

Bowie (as far as i know) wrote this song with the influence of his brother, who was a cultured and intelligent young man that had dealt with serious mental health issues. Bowie had a good relationship with him, he also introduced many aspects of art and philosophy to Bowie, definitely influencing Bowie’s art. Bowie told that his brother would sometimes go on long trips and dissappear for long times. One day he went on another one of these trips, and eventually committed suicide by lying on the railway. RIP to all those beatiful souls we lost who were fighting their own demons.

@@JudgementKazzy87 The lyrics of both songs (David Bowie and Nirvana) are different, in the first one Bowie speaks about how its dealing with his alter ego (Zigie Stardust, a role that he played in 70's) and the way how the alter ego and Bowie becomes one after he realizes the alter ego always have been with him; by the other hand, in Nirvana's version Kurt speaks that he accepts his "past me" but his "present me" can't coexist with him and now (sort of like their personalities are separating from each other), in the way that he sings it, he's resigned of how's his life and how he lost his path; we can see this subtrama in the way that in the first song starts with "I" and ends with "We" and in the second one, starts with "We" and ends with "I".

I picked my son up from camp today (just turned 15) and had Nirvana playing on the drive. He hopped in, looked at me and said, with wide eyes, “sick music choice mom, I didn’t know you liked Nirvana”. The drive home consisted of telling my son stories of what an awful teenager I was when Nirvana was at its peak, and commending him on being a better teen than I was. What a bonding moment though. Thank you Kurt, your brilliance transcends the ages 🥹 (and *yes* I know Bowie wrote this particular jam, lol)

Also look at the euro dance of that time. Then think again whether you really want to live in a time where that was played up and down every station, which you did not dare to turn off, as the song after the piece of trash you had to suffer through might have been a great discovery - because that was the only way to get new music as there was no internet. It always looks like an age of timeless classics afterwards, because time has washed away the shit and all left are the gems. But be aware, that layer of manure was several meters thick before and you had to dig through all of it to find anything.

The way this was played live with little to no mistakes is amazing, at the beginning it's relatively slow but you can see and feel them just jamming with the exact same tempo as each other yet slowly speeding up at throughout the song and it just gives it this sense of imperfect perfection, if the song was perfect it wouldn't be as real, but this cover is as balanced as you can get and all the while they're just chilling and having fun.

Even Nirvana didn't realise this was going to be their best live performance.

Aditya Palit they kinda did. I heard somewhere that Kurt was satisfied with how the performance went for the first time in a while.

sabbracadabra this album is listed somewhere in rollingstone’s 500 greatest albums of all time. So i would say it definitely was one of their best performances. And also thats what kurt himself thought too. What makes this performance so special compared to other Nirvana live performances which are also good, nirvana focused on performing songs that were not well known to people compared to smells like teen spirit, lithium etc. they thus created this raw, acoustic sound which deliver Kurt’s pain so profoundly. I dont think there ever will be this much depressing rock concert ever.

We passed upon the stairs We spoke of was and when Although I wasn't there He said I was his friend Which came as a surprise I spoke into his eyes I thought you died alone A long long time ago Oh no, not me We never lost control You're face to face With the man who sold the world I laughed and shook his hand And made my way back home I searched for form and land For years and years I roamed I gazed a gazeless stare At all the millions here I must have died alone A long, long time ago Who knows? Not me We never lost control You're face to face With the man who sold the world Who knows? Not me I never lost control You're face to face With the man who sold the world Who knows? Not me I never lost control You're face to face With the man who sold the world

john smith utter BS. It is just artist who did become lazy and didn’t bother to make great songs Any more. All thought today there is only very few artist who continue to produce after money goes to them. Metallica is One of those rare beast’s who make still amazing songs. But they are willing to do that work what it take’s.

john smith Your sentence is very poorly structured and I can barely understand it. If you wish to make a point, you can at least do people the favor of letting them understand it. I would argue your point but I don't quite know what it is.

"imagine" Bowie and Kurt above us. It's easy If you try :) Imagine them and The Beatles - playing songs as one. Uhh huu... You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one.

Today marks 28 years since your loss, Kurt. You are wonderful as a person, I did not know you is true, but seeing your friends talk about how good a person you were gives me melancholy, I am a fan of yours since the first time I heard about girl and I loved it.
