Great review, Ram! Was just wondering if you have tried Musiqa Oud by Nishane? It's in the same series as Afrika-Olifant but the rarest among the four in this series. I always think of Musiqa Oud as the stankier, older brother of Olifant.

Hi Ramsey! Thibetone is a substitute for real deer musk, never smelled it, it is quite difficult to find as a material, but can be compared to materials such as Tonquitone and Muscone, while Muscenone is much more "hairy", airy and soft (probably the main musk in Musc Ravageur so to speak) less urinary, it is still part of the animalic white musks.

Afrika Olifant was the first fragrance that had me think "Hmm, this is very interesting" but in a pleasant way. I did not like Unutamam or Hyrax, but I liked this one. Another fragrance that had a similar effect on me was Soul of Oud from Ramon Monegal.

It's such a weird experience for me. Coming off Zoologist's most animalic perfumes (Hyrax, Bee, Civet) and especially Unutumam (Nishane's most animalic by far to my nose, not so musky but very herbaceous and "wet"/musty), Afrika-Olifant for me is... tame. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but I had heard so much about it that when it comes to the actual animalic experience, I find it very tame. As always you have the most lifelike, wonderful descriptions though!

Great review, as always. For me though, I found that a lot of Nishanes that I liked at first and then went back to them few months/weeks later are falling victims to overdoses of certain captives/molecules - groups of "amberwoods" and certain musks. Had to sell Sultan Vetiver for that reason - loved its dry herbal smoky opening-mid, but the base was driving me nuts with that droning "amberwood" smth in it. Same situation with Afrika - great animalic, a bit fecal, opening, but 30 min in can't smell anything but crude "amberwood" derivatives. Similar story with B-612: enjoyed at first for its rendition of a modern-age fougere, but started noticing that cashmere or/with some other musks were deliberately nauseating the experience.. Unutamam though did not only impress, but also withstood the trial of, perhaps, my recent defensive sensory reaction to certain synthetics - there's some harshness in the mid, but the one I can live with, while fully appreciating the boldness of the idea behind it. Would love to see a review of it one day :)

Man you are passionate and knowledgeable af . So much to listen to, full of information and dedication. Afrika with K is in some countries, at least in europe, like here in germany, the spelling. Never tried that one, not my favorite house either. Solid hair btw wish i had those

I didn’t buy it because I already have a full bottle of Hyrax, and I wear it so rarely it will probably last me a decade or so. Plus I find Hyrax to be all around better, especially during the long drydown. Otherwise Afrika-Olifant would be a good pick-up since it’s usually available for a decent price at discount websites.

I dont find Hyrax to be animalic AT ALL, I was so pumped to get it, and on my skin it is soooo light. Beaver from that house (not Civet or Bee, even) is animalic on my skin. This one is mixed for me also, some days it’s crazy strong-others (Borat voice) not so maaaaach. Unutamam is my jam, however, but have to reapply liberally 🙄🤷🏻‍♀️😖 Edit: Xyrena Sneakerhead is absolutely FUCKING FANTASTIC for the new kick smell ❤

Enjoy the scent, but once I got a bigger sample and really got to spend time wih it I was a bit underwhelmed tbh. Unutamam is more my jam. Great review though! 🙏

Great review and great fragrance - it reminds me of a musty, damp basement with concrete floors. Though it's not their most animalic fragrance, not by a long shot. Unutamam and Musiqa Oud are miles stronger and more animalic.

Great review for sure , completely fair and on point, I do enjoy this one it’s not my any means my favorite animalic but I do appreciate its composition. Now a curve ball Rams, do you get a Dzing vibe at all from this one ?? The mid animalic vibe of say a big herbivore dung kinda deal ,but more so the popcorn 🍿 waft ,but not a fresh bucket but rather the end where the unpopped kernels lurk with the oily buttery residue ??, and it reminds me hugely of the after game changing room when un booting and the waft around the room always gave off that popcorn kernel vibe. Call me crazy I’m just saying lol 😂, great job man. Happy Sunday Dad and Daughter 🙏✌️👍

I think when you smell Epona you will get more of a Dzing! Comparison IMHO

I remember sampling this one when it was released and thought it was very good, although a bit crude. In the end, other animalic leathers like the original Leather Oud by Dior (not the emasculated current version) just drew me in more. Afrika-Olifant is good though.

I've got all three and they're all great but, gun to the head: Leather Oud > Hard Leather > Afrika Olifant

I would probably put Afrika-Olifant ahead of Hard Leather.. but Leather Oud in the top spot no doubt 🤌🤌🤌

I am always enjoying your videos. So much to learn from them. One of the official languages of South Africa is Afrikaans, which is similar to Dutch. In Afrikaans, the word "olifant" means "elephant", and well, "Afrika" means "Africa". On a sadder note, a client of mine was killed by an elephant recently. Kind regards from Namibia (Southern Africa).

To my nose, the animalic notes in Afrika Olifant smell exactly like giraffes at the Oregon Zoo :) Whenever I spray it, I'm instantly back at the giraffe enclosure, and then I imagine I'm on a safari in Africa chasing wild animals. I've never been on a safari, but this perfume is exactly how I think a safari would smell. I think the perfume conveys its message successfully.

Yes maybe the synthetics are what put me off....definitely something stange...when you said hot car my brain was thinking peanut butter in a hot car... whatever it is it's out there
