Love the video man. I’ve owned my 04 350z for a little over a year now. Now I’m noticing when I’m turning I’m having to turn the wheel twice over now just to even get it, I also hear some clicking and clanking once it gets to the 2nd turn around so I mean I’m thinking it’s the steering rack, something loose. Ugh. Love owning these cars, never a dull moment!

Was thinking of replacing the bushings for this part with polyurethane is it worth it and will it increase handling and how long does it take?
@avengednick9 ай бұрын
I made multiple changes when I replaced mine so it’s hard to identify how much that specific bushing changed the feeling or performance of the car. That being said, it definitely doesn’t hurt to replace and ensure the bushing is giving optimal performance. Again I was doing other things so not sure exactly how long just the bushing would take but shouldn’t be more then a couple hours.

How did you center your rack before install and connected to steering shaft?
@avengednick Жыл бұрын
They should be centered from the factory so make sure to to mess with it prior to installing it and you should be good to go. Obviously you’ll want to get an alignment as well

This was a sponsored deal, but new OEM racks are around $1500 and remanufactured racks are about $700.

I figure this is a long shot, but, do you know a good place to find an 07 rack and pinion for less than 1k or $600? Because damn am i having the hardest time trying to find one 😭
@avengednick Жыл бұрын
From a quick search an OEM rack is going to be $1,500 even on the cheapest sites. Z1 has a reman option, I’ve never used this rack, but Z1 typically carries good products and it’s 1/3 price: www.z1motorsports.com/power-steering-rack/nissan-value-advantage/nva-350z-power-steering-rack-and-pinion-2007-2008-p-12067.html?list_name=SearchResults&oid=12067%3A0%3A4%3A2&qid=0904b2f293a49fb3486e054069f932c8

My 350z steering wheel is really stiff do you think it’s the power steering pump or rack
@avengednick9 ай бұрын
There’s multiple things in the PS system that could be causing the stiffness you’re feeling, but without seeing the car in person it’s hard to say. I’d suggest having a shop diagnosis the issue

Sounds like the system wasn’t fully bleed and there’s air in it. You’ll need to bleed the system again

Future references for other's.."OEM" doesn't mean that company made the part..."OEM" means, thats the company it gets its parts from...like nissian dont make car parts..they build cars...they put vendor's car parts on their builds...they tell the vendors what spec's to create a new part for.....then the vendors build the parts...they sell them under different names, for trademark and contractual agreements!!! MANNNN, what im saying is, he just paid 300+ bucks, just for it too say "NISSAN" when the actul part is like, doorman
@avengednick3 ай бұрын
Thanks for pointing that out, great information for others to have. I understand OEM parts are in many cases made by other vendors, however it's the fact that they're built to the manufacturers specification that makes it worth it in my opinion for certain parts. That's not to say you can't get a non-OEM part that's of equal quality. I broke this rack drifting a year or so after it was put in and ended up replacing it with a remanufactured rack.
