Don’t understand why Nissan decided to ruin their reputation with the decision to use CVT transmissions on their majority of their models. Really poor management

It is the curse of AI text to speech. One telltale sign of that is words that are not pronounced correctly for the context of the sentence in which they have been used. Often it would be a correct way to pronounce the words if the sentence was different maybe.

I'm curious though, if the failures have anything to do with driving styles. I've read through reviews from several sources and as far as I can tell, about 10% of Nissan owners report problems with the CVT transmissions. From personal experience, I'd say about 10% or more of the people I've known are impatient drivers or have a lead foot. That said, it would stand to reason that people who accelerate quickly and tend to exceed speed limits have issues with the CVT transmission sooner because their driving habits is rough on it.

Here is my experience: I purchased a 2015 Nissan Murano new in July 2015. We had transmission issues starting week 1! Hesitation and then over acceleration were addressed with multiple software tweaks but never corrected the issue. My CVT transmission failed and was replaced under warranty by Nissan in June 2019 at 52,000 miles. Today 11-29-21, at 62,100 miles, my transmission failed again due to the transmission oil/cooler/radiator assembly failing to cause the cooling fluid and the transmission fluid to mix, resulting in having to replace the Transmission, Radiator, and associated assemblies for a cost to me of approximately $6,700! Based on my research, this is a known issue with Nissan CVTs but was only partially addressed in the Class Action lawsuit because individual owners had to personally sue Nissan and their vehicle models and years were the only ones included in the extended warranty. How a judge does not include all Nissan vehicles with the CVT is beyond me especially when my dealership was replacing three a week when my 2015 Murano's CVT was replaced. All my service was completed at the dealership and we never prevent any work from being done when required. The only upside is Nissan is paying for 80% of the repair but I am still paying out of pocket on something I believe should be fully covered. If I had an Altima with the same issue it would be covered under the class action suit extended warranty coverage but the same CVT with known issues in another Nissan model is not covered!

Same here Nissan denied my recall for the 2011 Nissan Cube CVT failed at 106,000 miles. The CVT was dealer serviced. However the 2010 Cube was covered all their CVT models have failure problems. Never again CVT or Nissan. The rebuilt cost me $3500 with only a 1 year or 12000 mile warranty. My son has 60,000 miles now on rebuilt CVT with two drain & refill service intervals at 30,000 miles each. Based on Nissan historical CVT failures life expectancy is 100,000 miles then junk it or sell it no more money wasted.

I believe the narrator got the Pathfinder mixed up with one of the Nissan's crossovers like the Murano or the Rogue. He was talking about how the Nissan Pathfinder had CVT transmissions in 2005 to 2007 model years, but that's false. The 3rd generation R51 Nissan pathfinders were built on the same F Alpha platforms shared with the Nissan Frontier midsize pickup trucks and Nissan Xterra. These 3rd Gen. Nissan Pathfinders were a rwd based vehicles and didn't use the CVT transmissions that the narrator is talking about. However, Nissan did start putting CVT transmissions in the 4th generation R52 Nissan Pathfinders starting with the 2013 year model vehicles. My guess is at the narrator got confused and was talking about one of the other Nissan crossovers that used these Jatco Xtronic CVT transmissions. Yes the Nissan pathfinders did eventually get those CVT transmissions. But not as early as the 2005 year models in the 3rd Gen Pathfinders. That all to my knowledge and wanted to try and clarify any misunderstanding. That's all. Have a good day everyone. Peace!

I work in the auto industry and being a previous owner of a 2013 pathfinder I’ll be the one to say that older Nissan cvts are just garbage. At less than 50,000 miles i had to warranty mines and get it changed. But given my job, I’ve come into contact with many nissans and I have to say that the newer cvts, from around 2016-ish and up, the cvts are greatly improved and alot smoother and more reliable. If you’re interested in buying one of the newer nissans that has a cvt, then go right ahead. Things are different now. Just ensure, even though the dealers and manual will say the fluid is lifetime, still go ahead and change it every three years or so. Change the fluid and if you can, the filter as well and everything will be fine
@HighAltitudesCO
@HighAltitudesCO 2 жыл бұрын
The problem often came down to the cooler size or lack of size. The Maxima has a beefy cooling system for the CVT, while things like Versa, Sentra, Rogue and Altima do not have that advantage. While I wouldn't trust a Maxima to pull a trailer of any weight, it's fine under normal use and the CVT most likely (with specified maint) will never be an issue.
@DESTRIAZ
@DESTRIAZ 2 жыл бұрын
@@HighAltitudesCO well that was one of the problems. But not the only one. The ball bearings that the variating pulleys slide on are made of aluminum. And the pulleys themselves as well. So when the steel belt rubs against the pulleys, it causes scraping and scoring if the pulleys causing aluminum filings to fall and get carried around in the fluid causing other places to seize up in the transmission. Added to that, when torque is repeatedly hitting those small ball bearings that the pulleys slide on, they eventually deform and become flattened causing the pulleys to be unable to open or close which causes the belt to snap.
@HighAltitudesCO
@HighAltitudesCO 2 жыл бұрын
@@DESTRIAZ Nissan made a historically bad blunder putting Crapco...er Jatco CVTs in such a wide swath of their vehicles. They would be smart to just deleting the CVT and go with automatics like the new Pathfinder route. The Maxima is dead now model wise and too late for it unless they want to re-design a gas car (likely not) or just make an electric Maxima which the rumored IMS was going to be. The Maxima was always in a bad spot since Infiniti came along, they never wanted the car to succeed all that much when they had crap Q50s to sell for more money.
@DESTRIAZ
@DESTRIAZ 2 жыл бұрын
@@HighAltitudesCO jatco cvts are just terrible. And no matter how much modifications nissan tried to make to it for their own specs, it would never work as expected. I think the smarter route to go is since the maxima is being deleted, just bring back the v6 altima and drop in a stepped automatic like u said. Acura is rocking a v6 paired with a 10 speed and it is working amazing with them. No complaints. I am an owner of the 2022 pathfinder and the v6 paired with the new 9 speed is amazing. I cant tell u the difference u feel in the drive. And it being gear on gear i have so much more confidence in driving than when i had the 2013 pathfinder. I used to actually feel the slipping.

(Sorry for the VERY long "comment". But I believe it NEEDS to be said) For it's a scoop you can take to the bank; and your check will NOT bounce! For in the late '40's; Chrysler wanted to build a transmission; that would have no gears. Rather: just two "variable" pulleys and a flexible steel belt; connecting the pulleys. So, "I made that my "term paper" in my senior class; in Fenger HS in Chicago (1950) Then Chrysler's engineers were told to design it. And they did; but after a long time they were NOT able to make it work; without problems. Finally, Chrysler abandoned it. And other auto manufacture's didn't want it either; because they were afraid of "Class Action lawsuits"; which can bankrupt a company; if it is widespread. Fast forward to 2000; When Nissan decided they COULD solve the problems. And IF they designed it right; they would have NO competition; and Nissan would make a fortune. Really! So they did it; but the engineers KNEW (and STILL know) it was going to have untold problems; even though they deny it. But the company forced them to do it. I suppose: they assumed they could deal with it. Yeah Right. If they only knew what was going to happen to them. For they are going down. And they damned sure deserved it! Criminals is what they are! I said all the above; to say this: It isn't just Nissan. Believe me. It is the damned CVT transmission. For it is simply NOT possible; to stop those constant problems. Only electric cars can be made (IN the future); that would make a car quiet and smooth; with NO gear or pulleys and belt in the transmission. Please do NOT buy one. They still have not made one; where the batteries are not incredibly high in cost. Like $8,000+ to replace. That is ridiculous and atrociously foolish. Finally, I bought one of those "beastly" Nissan Maxima's in 2007; and from day one to this day; it has been a "problem maker transmission". I am not the only one. There are millions that fight that damned CVT transmission. And Nissan can NOT and/or won't solve the problems; because they CAN'T. Nor will any other CVT car manufacture. Believe it or not and listen up: IT'S THE DADGUMMED "CVT" TRANSMISSION, "DUMMIES"! For it's as worthless as a dead earthworm; that has been rolled over all day long; on an "Interstate Highway!". End of Story, and I rest me case.

I have an Infiniti Qx60 2014 hybrid with 55k miles and the transmission started to act weird about ten months ago, but in February, it became dangerous; the transmission started stalling and on the highway, the engines just stops working periodically. When I reverse the car, it shakes and accelerates dangerously even though I'm not touching the gas pedal. Yesterday, I brought it to the local dealership, where I purchased it new in 2013, they said that the computer just needed a software update but then, today, they called to tell me that it would cost 15k CAD for a used CVT or 25k CAD for a new one. The worst is that they both come with a 1 year and 10k miles warranty. They know how bad their technology is and they don't want to admit.

Nissan CVT Transmissions have been failing through out the model lines for several year models. Models like Altima, Versa, Sentra, Juke, Rogue, Pathfinder, Murano all have the same issues. Many develop a “shudder”, “Judder” or “vibration” as described by many owners and used car dealers. The Jilcat Proline CVT Supplement has stopped the shudder repeatedly all across the country for most of the applications it has been applied. There is a separate Torque Converter issue (Code P0074 or P0075) that is different from the shudder. It actually feels like a stall when you stop and the vehicle has issues at take off. This would require a flush process and refill with OEM fluid. We have found by adding 2 bottles of Jilcat CVT Supplement in with the fresh fluid we have cleared up that problem in many cases. There is NO GUARANTEE the Jilcat Product will work but in almost every attempt we have seen success. Try this before you spend $2000 or $3000 replacing the transmission. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o36Qn56ljLqZoZI [Nissan vibrates] [CVT issues] [why does my Altima shake] [what can I do about my Murano vibrating when I drive] [Murano transmission issue] [Rogue transmission vibration] [Juke has a vibration] [additive to help Nissan CVT] [how to fix my Pathfinder transmission] Check it out the CVT fix here: under $50! www.jilcat.com/product/cvt-transmission-supplement-1-bottle-35-dont-replace-that-nissan-cvt/

J'ai vu qu'au Canada il y a l'APA qui a fait un recours en justice mais en France qu'en est il ?!

If you don't do oil and trans maintenance on them you will have problems you need trans fluid flushed change both filters clean magnets in trans pan every 30 to 60 thousand on trans

2010 Nissan Cube s first Revving going no where, then no acceleration . Thought ns2 fluid change without deep clean would fix it. Nope now no power and no idle. Check engine code initially p1778, p0746,p1421 I’m thinking because a deep fluid flush and change of the filters wasn’t done. It still has gunk left that’s interfering with the fluid pressure. I cleared codes and it started right up with power. It still doesn’t work right. I believe Nissan lies tell you to only change the fluid. Knowing it will run the vehicle down to the ground. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN EVER RIGHT UNDER VOLKSWAGON.

I didn't know they discontinued the quest. I had one till last year, and it took us all over the USA on family trips and it had all the comfort and luxury we could dream of. Leather heated seats, dvd, game console, 2 screens, bose sound system, 2 sunroof, power everything......I drive a nissan xtrail but I still miss my quest van.

Nissan has a problem.. I've owned two in the last 5 yrs.. First one, shame on Nissan.. Second one, shame on me. I don't recommend Nissan to anyone, because the CVT will fail. My first one failed at or around 80 thousand miles.. The second one failed just a few days ago, at 87K. It'll cost you around $3 grand to replace, and once the trans starts to slip, you'll get a P17F0 code.. which won't clear unless you can drive a cycle without the belt slipping.

Nissan’s CVT problems was NOT caused by the actual transmission. It was caused by the pathetic CVT fluid they chose to use. A company called SOPUS part of SHELL OIL is who produces Nissan CVT fluid. It’s terrible.

Whilst I admit I know very little about Nissan CVT/s but from the fairly extensive reading I've been getting into lately I'd respectfully suggest that you steer well clear of the apparent crap that appears to be associated with Nissan & their CVT/s unless you have plenty of spare cash to enable you to pay someone else to fix Nissan's obviously bad desigh work!! Better to go ahead with extreme caution & play it safe!! Bottom line is this, if its a Nissan & it's got CVT transmission simply walk past it & don't even stop to look!! Exactly the reason they have had to extend their vehicle warranties & not by a mere fortnight either!! Don't say you have not been duly warned!! (understandee de englishee???)

I bought one a few months ago. So far no real issues at 6000 miles . I did notice that the crash sensor will light up but I think it has dew on it buy after a couple minutes of driving early mornings ( Louisiana ) the sensor clears. Also I'd suggest changing the oil every 4000 miles instead of 5000. I do my own oil changes and noticed the oil was quite black at 4000. I'm going to err on the side of caution and have the transmission fluid flushed and filled at 20000 miles instead of the recommended 30000.

Boycott Nissan it didn't find a solution that should just go back and build a regular transmission that fits all these cars and change the Transmissions ASAP CVT transmissions are failure figure out how to go back to the conventional automatic transmission and reprogram all the cars for all the owners that own Nissan to this problem. BS or a boycott of Nissan is going to be eminent over the horizon due to lack of respect for their Knowing me Knowing that is because transmission fell under profiting from the customers this should be advertised everywhere and should be open book for every customer to know so they don't buy this cars
