If you can afford a GTR, I don't think you would really care about fuel economy or cabin space. But nonetheless, great review!!

Not fair saying that it's got a shit badge! This car is actually a masterpiece it proves that almost ever supercar is over priced! You can get a brand new GTR for just 75K whereas a 911 Carrera S which is slower then the GTR costs 85K a Vantage also 85K and again much slower. Audi R8 V10Plus which just about meets the performance of the GTR will cost over £100K and let's not even mention the Huracan, yes it's faster but a brand new costs over £180K!!! GTR is awesome! Nissan are excellent
@NicMachiavelli9 жыл бұрын
Oscar Khan You're right mate, its faster. But what about the quality, and for example interiour? Of course Porsche or Audi could build a car, as fast as the GTR, but it would be more expensive cause of better quality. For example: Compare the interiour of a fcking GTR with the interiour of a Porsche.

For the price of the R-8 and the Porche you'll probably get 2 Nissans, a comfortable & practical SUV for the daily grind and a blisteringly quick GT-R that redefines convention...Both of which will probably outlast the Germans, twice over! There; Hard suspension, practicality and MPG problem solved

I'd choose a 911 over this GT-R, even if I love both of them. The GTR is a fun and fast car, but unfortunately the interior is really not that great compared to a 911 or any similar priced european car. The GTR's badge image is not that great either... Saying "I own a Porsche" or "I own a Ferrari" sounds much better than saying "I own a Nissan"... The stock GTR beats the base 911 Carrera on track but not the 911 Turbo S.

CarBuyer really needs to review more cars like this. I'm talking about Lamborghinis, McLarens, Ferraris, Maseratis etc. Not saying that CarBuyer is unpopular, but reviews of such supercars are only going to make the channel popular. Also, such cars- if reviewed- should be done by Mat for the simple reason that Rebecca seems to petite for such cars ( Although her racing background suggests otherwise). Thanks CarBuyer!

Would do you rather listen to a 5'10" guy talk about how cleverly Ferrari has combined fuel efficiency with downforce in the new (Old now) F12 or a 5'4.5" small lady (I agree she races cars)? Not trying to be sexist or anything, just trying to make myself clear. Also, in terms of legit reviews of big, luxurious 4x4s, I feel Mat's height and size would be more appropriate while testing stuff like the leg room, head room etc. Rebecca is just too small and that creates a false impression of how large a car is. Not saying Rebecca is bad and Mat is better, just saying that Rebecca shouldn't be reviewing large cars. Small ones suit her better.
@KrunalRindani10 жыл бұрын
Stop judging people who view these videos. You never know how rich someone is and what car they are planning to buy. Also, saying that Clarkson "reviews" cars wouldn't be appropriate as he bases the review on his opinion almost all the time (For example, no matter how good a Porsche is, he'll always criticize it). Just think twice before you chose to write any reply.

***** And I'm glad someone agrees with me. I hate the 911 - not for what it is (I'm sure its very well engineered) but for the fact that its one of the biggest poser cars out there; the automotive equivalent of designer sunglasses. Stick a Porsche badge on the GTR and the waiting list would be through the roof.
@ordi7511 жыл бұрын
benanderson89 I wholeheartedly agree. I'm not sure why people would prefer a 911 over the GT-R - I would much rather keep the attention down. I guess it's the same story with sleeper cars - some like to go all out while others like to keep the car as stock as possible with however many mods they can do before it starts to give away itself. All that being said, I am a great fan of the Skyline family in general. Not disliking 911(Top Gear is a great example, Jezza hates Porsches) as that's not what being a car enthusiast is about, but each to their own. :)

At the end of the day, if you want to impress someone with your sports car (apparently, since thinking about the brand and all?), do you want to impress people who know stuff about cars and motorsports, or people who like posh brands and sexy leather seats? GT-R is a performance car, it is not about the badge or interior quality, it's a bout mindblowing performance. In my head it's far more exotic than a boring 911 (every other executive has one).
@turboman150511 жыл бұрын
Hahaha boring 911? Something tells me you've never driven a 911. Most people on youtube talk as if they know something when in fact they're expert at looking at video reviews. Sure the GT-R is the performance bargain of the century, but I'd rather have a car I can live with everyday. Comfortable, reliable, fun etc.
@rextetron11 жыл бұрын
turboman1505 Dude, I was talking about the negativity of a Nissan badge (or brand) as it was used as an example of why GTR might not be so "cool" or "exotic" in many peoples minds. 911 is THE benchmark of a sportscar, and I have very high respect for Porsche overall and especially the GT models of the 911. If I would ever have a possibility to own such car like GTR or similar performing 911, I would definitely pick the 911 over a GTR.

I see a lot of 'can't compare to porsche' comments etc. coupled with image comments in the review itself. Established supercar groups doesn't have to respect GTR. It should FEAR it. GTR does better what others do while being MUCH cheaper. And let's face it. People who want to buy a badge will buy a badge not matter what the car is like. Those who want performance usable every day will consider GTR most seriously since it's one of 3 supercars (this, 911 and NSX) you can live with every day. And it will be reliable, unlike a Fezza or a Lambo or even R8 since those started bursting into flames recently...

The GT-R is not as exciting as it was when it first came out now that the price has crept up so much. It's now really close price wise to those other cars you mention, the 911 and R8. It might still win by the numbers just barely, but either one of those is more exciting to drive. Also, when I rode in a GT-R I thought the ride was pretty nice around town. It was like being in a G37 coupe. Even when accelerating fast it's so smooth and undramatic that the speeds being displayed are unbelievable. One last thing, you didn't really use the standard formula to test this car. I don't even remember the last time you took a car to a track or showed an acceleration test. Let Rebecca retest this as if it's a family car. I need to know if a banana will fit in the bin between the seats.

That's easy to say until you've driven it. In real life you can't go full throttle all the time and enjoy the performance. Most of the time you will just sit there at average speeds and wish it had an option to be softer . That's ok for a track car. Not if it's a 100.000 dollar car you just drive fast a couple of times a week.
@G0ML33311 жыл бұрын
Nice one Mat. It's weird how the GT-R doesn't really wake up any sort of emotions in me when I see one, same with the Veyron. about it's reliability - I don't know if they improved it, but GT-R (previous MYs) is well known for it's terribly weak gearbox. The AMG 12 Cylinder engine in an SL actually has a slightly better fuel economy at 24.4 UK MPG.

This was a real world example to emphasise how thirsty the Nissan is in comparison to some well known gas guzzlers with massive engines. In no way was my comment a recommendation for designers of future cars or buyers. And your friends problems with mileage are just that, your friends problems. My old Merc actually gets (ever so slightly) better mileage than advertised and if driven in a relaxed fashion quite a bit better, if other people are not able to archive that, that is their and their car mechanics problem, not mine.

Thank you for sharing, this got me thinking about the differences between the cars you mentioned! I think the Nissan GTR has an amazing form factor and it has the best price/performance ratio in its class (hyper car/ high end luxury). I agree that the GTR is still a better buy than the R8 purely for price reasons as the R8 has a more impressive variable range for horsepower. Im not gonna pay 60k + more than the GTR for 10 more horsepower though if i could be rolling in a GTR. Also one can't successfully debate that Porsche engineering is "shitty" in any comprehensible way. I was confused that on a video about luxury cars someone is calling out a Porsche as shitty, for what reasons? I've honestly never heard that before. The GTR stands well on its own, and so do the R8 and porsche 911, the key difference is what kind of drive style your looking for. Porsche are just different drive style and transmission, the chassis and suspension are the highest quality in the hyper car world. Porsches are designed to drive as an extension of the drivers hand like an instrument to make it easier to focus on driving (competitively.) The r8 is made more with the every man in mind, and they give you hyper car power in a simpler more user friendly car. Gtr is like the beautiful custom built tuner of the luxury car world. If your looking for a car to hate on, hate on the BMW i8 or Acura NSX for how they goofed this year. Tldr; Love Nissans cars, the GTR being my favorite, but the Audi R8 and Porsche 911 still are great standalone cars in their respective markets. Have a wonderful day!

It can't be boring cos of engineering and amount of electronics used in GT-R! For that money it offers decent boot, surprising rear seat space and MEGA perfomance - it's bargain! Afraid it sounded like fanboy :P but I'm not

I would have this over a 911 anyday. I don't care about kudos or if girls think it's not sexy. If you buy a car just to look good for other people then you are a fool. Buy a car because you like it. I would but this car becaue of its performace and its enineering excellence

Focusing purely on performance, you can have Ford Mustang V8 5.0 with 450hp for half the price of GT-R. Does anyone know if there are differences that could explain this price tag difference? I understand difference Mustang VS 911, but not Mustang VS Nissan.

I'm planning to buy golf gtd c: It's economical, and has better driving than tdi. However, just a little difference in price with gti, I'm really serious what to buy. I don't drive that much (I'm student :c), and I think fuel consumption is not that considerable. What should I buy? (It will be my first car! c:) Anyways, I always enjoy watching ur reviews, Mat! Thanks!

Why don't you just leave the water bottle on the front passenger seat? I don't even use cubby holes for food or drink. Toss it on the passenger seat.

The interior is not as good as Porche but the performance makes the porche a little bit embarrass in term of the price
