I have a 2012 Nissan Sentra S with over 225,000 miles on it. Never had an issue with the original CVT. I changed the fluid every 60,000 miles as required in the owner’s manual. Nissan is capable to be reliable as Toyota and Honda. You haters should learn how to read a manual and drive a car properly and you won’t have any problems long term.
@carsunlocked3 жыл бұрын

Applying your anecdotal experience to a car manufacturer with a reported history of CVT issues isn’t logically sound. I’m glad your Nissan w/ CVT worked out for you, but that’s not always the case. I could provide you with my anecdotes of how my wife’s 2015 rouge AWD needed a new transmission just before the warranty expired (phew!) or how I had an Altima that also had its CVT replaced before getting out of warranty. But these anecdotes don’t acknowledge that there is a larger systemic problem with the Nissan CVTs crapping out.

I ordered the 2022 Pathfinder Platinum 4WD. This vehicle is very good for off road type conditions but it is not all terrain. The suspension is a bit more ridged on the Pathfinder for better off road operation and better handling. The Highlander is more of an urban type van than an off road type vehicle. I like the Pathfinder controls and way of setting things up for preferences. The 2022 Pathfinder drives more like a truck which is something I like for its way of handling and being more rugged. I have a 2016 Murano Platinum AWD. After I bought it I put in high quality stiffer shocks and new springs to raise the Murano 2 inches. The handling and performance in snow storms and on unpaved rough country roads improved with this modification.

There are a lot of doubts, Eddie. Looks aren't everything, unless that's as deep as you can go. I could say the Pathfinder is a wannabe Explorer in looks but what difference does it make? I'll go with Highlander due to reliability, durability and value retention. Not to mention the most experienced company with electric motors and hybrid technology. I love everything about the new Pathfinder, including its great looks. But I have a '16 with 136K miles and it's required many unexpected repairs since around 100K miles, including a new A/C unit ($1500), suspension problems ($1200), windshield washer malfunction ($800) and cooling system ($950). But in my area, Sacramento CA, I can get a 2023 Pathfinder SL for $42K while an equivalent Telluride or Palisade is $10K more if you can even find one. So I'm negotiating a fair trade-in along with a free extended warranty, but since my problems occur past 100K miles there remains some risk.

After checking out a number of SUVs, my choice was the 2022 Pathfinder. I am used to Nissan vehicles. I like the way they design the layout of the dash, controls, and how the computer part works. I also like the inside trims. Last week I ordered the 2022 Pathfinder Platinum white with the black roof lining. I added a number of optional features. I have been driving a 2016 Murano Platinum and traded it in. I did some driving of the Pathfinder. I had a demo Pathfinder for a full day. I was satisfied with the handling and overall performance. The acceleration was very acceptable for me. In checking the performance rating for the Pathfinder it is supposed to be able to do 0 to 60 mph in about 6.9 to 7.2 seconds. This is very acceptable for me. I added a 6 year 140K full service extended warranty. I did the same for the previous vehicles I bought. Nissan engines historically have been excellent. Their weak point was the CVT as like many other vehicles that use CVTs. Now with the automatic transmission I would think the reliability should be much better. I follow the maintenance schedule very closely, and I am very picky in how I look after my vehicles. I am not a hard driver with my vehicles. This is better for the life time reliability of the vehicle.

They need to make the Highlander more mean looking. If they would have put a Tacoma looking grill on the Highlander I would have chosen it for sure with no questions asked. Right now it looks too bubbly and rounded. I am disappointed in the look of the new Highlanders because I wanted one so bad because of the proven reliability and value.

I chose the 2023 Pathfinder 4wd in boulder grey two tone black top with black out kit. Looks and drives great. Highlander v6 not an option for 2023!?? I drove the Highlander fully expecting buy it but was underwhelmed with the 4 cylinder turbo transmission combination. It can take some time for new engine/ transmission combinations to be optimized for the best performance usually through software updates to the programming. That was the case with the Pathfinder in 2022. Much smoother this year. Toyota will probably have it dialed in soon as well. The comfort of the Pathfinder in every seat position was better. Added flexibility with the center console being removable was helpful and the charge ports in the 3rd row. They are both very good cars and would be happy with either car. The final deciding factor was availability and mark up. Nissan was offering 0% financing for 36 months and the dealer went below msrp and gave me more for my trade. Yes, Highlander resale will likely be higher but in this current market, the value is what you pay up front. Only have 3 days in the Platinum Pathfinder but already getting 23 mpg and very much enjoying this car.

We chose a Highlander (Limited) mainly because of its sleek sporty styling. The “boxier” look of the Pathfinder, Explorer, Equinox, and Palisade just seems too antiquated.
@mooz80263 жыл бұрын
Any other reasons that made you choose the Highlander? I'm still hesitating between the 2 (Highlander vs Pathfinder). I drove both and the Pathfinder technologies are awesome, but the Toyota does a great job under the hood. So, I'm looking for pros and cons of both. The interior space of the Pathfinder is a bit bigger, but other than that it's hard to pick!
@billwilliams58893 жыл бұрын
@@mooz8026 I can’t compare the Highlander to the new Pathfinder because I haven’t done any research on the Pathfinder. My choice was based mostly on styling, although the Highlander’s 29-mpg and large 12.3” screen were also appealing. It is pretty hard to find much fault with any 3-row SUV on the market these days, as is also true for most vehicles. The Highlander’s pricing may be higher …. I paid about $45,000 for a super-loaded Limited.

Like the comparison! But, I've sat in the third row of both and the Highlander's is significantly smaller, tighter and less comfortable than the Pathfinder's 3rd row. So, I can't agree with you in saying they're the same. I'd definitely pick the Pathfinder over the Highlander - not only for the 3rd row, but also because of its better look, more truckish feel, nice interior, better AWD system and there are much less of them on the road as opposed to the Highlander. Again, nice video!

You can't lose with either one to be honest. Both Nissan and Toyota are very reliable trucks cars and suvs. Honda as well is world renowned reliable vehicles. This is a close one. But have to give it to the toyota here. Interior definitely better on the Nissan. But the motor/transmission definitely better on the Toyota and that is more important to me. Nissan's 3.5 is getting a little long in the tooth at this point. I think they should have dropped their 3.0 turbo to gain more low end torque and HP. The ZF 9 speed is nice but not their best. Its the second generation of that unit but nothing like their ZF 8 speed which is probably the best auto on the planet. Glad the CVT is out but in all honesty, the acceleration might have been better using the CVT. For this kind of money one can buy a Explorer which looks amazing on the last design change. More importantly, Ford offers their 3.5 turbo that offers up to 400 lbs of torque and acceleration will blow both these SUV's off the road. And most importantly, Ford put the primary drive to the rear wheels. I like to see that with more oems. Too many FWD unibodies. They go that route because its cheaper. But its not better.

I have an ‘18 Pathfinder. 73,000 and the only thing that went wrong is the passenger seat track and the OE battery crapped out. Got for the legroom. Highlander is a bit short and the dash sits low on the passenger side. Luckily is was still under warranty. First thing, change out the battery. The OE’s suck.
