I have the 2020 Sentra SR and love it (it's my first car). I've driven tons of cars around and different cars of the same class (Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, etc) and I like this car the most. It's very smooth driving and it accelerates and handles extremely well. Like in the video, it's acceleration isn't the most punchy and it definitely gets beat out by the Civic, but it's super smooth and the sport mode will carry you when you need more performance. For reference, I live in NYC so I'm not zooming anyway; however, when I go out into the country, I'll usually flip on sport mode to keep up with traffic/driving on mountains. I've also driven it in all weather conditions (snow, hurricane, ice, heat wave) and it drives very well The infotainment system is the best one I've seen of this car class, but I wish the Spotify integration were better. The safety features are also fantastic - automatic braking, reverse camera sensors, and LDW all work extremely well. Plus, i really like the styling of the car - it's very sharp, especially in the SR variant. It's no lamborghini, but I get lots of compliments on it all the time. Overall, I'm super happy with this purchase and I'd recommend it to anyone who's not going to be zipping down highways at 90 MPH (even tho I have done that)!
@Randy-bj5vt3 жыл бұрын
I just bought a new '21 last week. Prior to my two test drives, I was really worried about the acceleration. After driving it, my worries were gone. It is absolutely fine. It's not a sports car, but it is more than enough. This car is more comfortable than my mom's Corolla and looks good. I got the SV with premium package and it's terrific. SG is spot on about the tranny and not knowing it's a CVT under normal driving. I've had no problems merging onto highway. Controls and interior are every bit as good as Toyota. You simply cannot beat the value here.

People cry about Sentra CVT thinking its still the B17 era. Its a car meant for you to put high milage/kms on and have the best fuel economy available to you. Its not a Z, Type R, or even a GR, and people try to think it is one. Then they complain and cry after it blows a transmission by constantly running it at 5-6k rpm. Plus, this line is one of the 8-9 cars of its size and class to offer a manual variant.

I believe the issue was fixed for the 2011+ model years. Then all the issues putting in a simple automatic into their sentras was, how'd they screw that one up? lol it's like they didn't learn from Honda's mistake in the mid 2000s from their accords. Just makes me never want to get a car made after 2010 except a handful amount of actual models let alone the brands. Unless ofc they come with a manual trans such as a Z. Here's hoping...

Cvts are good depending how you drive. I used to drive a regular automatic and I used to have the same notion about cvts before I finally own one and by the way its a toyota cvt im referring to. With cvts unlike automatic you do not have to hit pedal to the metal unlike regular automatic and I find the driving with cvt smooth and the best part is the gas mileage, its night and day compared to regular automatic. I find cvts perform better on small engines as you don't necessarily need the power to get it going. Also different companies make cvts whereas nissan cvts are made by jatco which people know whereas other manufacturers like honda, Toyota use different companies in creating cvts. One big thing that people should worry about which majority of people are overlooking are turbo engines and personally that's going to be an expensive fix down the road compared to non turbo. Only time will tell, however my point is not all cvts are bad but because of nissans reputation almost 90% of comments going to other reviewers who do similar things to what savagegeese does feel like saying to everybody cvts are horrible blah blah, the fact is once you get to experience it, you might find something surprising. There are also people who prefer manual transmissions but that number is very small which explains why car manufacturers are ditching them as no one is buying and also hard to sell as well.

While I’m definitely not a fan of CVT or any type of engineering that robs the car of character, dreading the eventual mass acceptance of EVs, the problems with the Nissan CVT is incredibly overblown especially in the last decade or so. I had a Murano with zero problems and have known many people with CVT Nissans and they had zero problems. And the newest Nissan CVTs actually are quite good. The CVTs need to have thier fluid changed at the proper intervals which most people don’t do.
@savagegeese3 жыл бұрын
I think unfortantely, Nissan settled a class action on CVTs on their highest volume products with another one spun up. Its not a matter of if they work anymore its the reputation is trashed.

Not overblown at all, several Class Action Lawsuits speak for themselves. My buddies 2013 Sentra CVT blew on him when the car was only 2 yrs old. I've only owned an 06 Altima SE-R and then upgraded (or downgraded really) to a 17 Altima 3.5 SL, but I don't think I'm going to invest any farther into Nissan seeing where their new cars are going. They've basically condensed the altima and the sentra into the same vehicle, the interior looks so bland and uncomfortable compared to older models, the cvt on my current makes me sick if I'm being honest, and their cars really do seem to fall apart randomly. I thought they'd be moving towards something better in the future and trying to learn to swim but it seems like they're still barely keeping their head above water, and at this point the company just needs to let go.
@markmiller32793 жыл бұрын
I can assure you the interior is very comfortable and much roomier than older Sentras. It's one of the nicest interiors in this segment, with only the Mazda3 significantly better, but at a higher price. The Elantra interior is also competitive, but the Nissan is much nicer than the Corolla, Civic, Impreza, or Forte.

I recently borrowed a 2020 Altima SR, with a CVT, and was utterly BLOWN AWAY at how smooth the CVT was, and how AMAZING the gas mileage was, especially highway (44MPG)! I frequently drive the Cleveland to NYC route (and back), and often have to stop for gas at least once with most cars i've taken this trip with. It usually takes a tank and a half to make the trip on most cars, but with the Altima, it took only 3/4 of a tank of gas to drive the 490 miles in about 7 1/2 hours (with the trunk loaded, 2 people and a 60 pound dog)! I currently drive a manual GTI, but would consider a car with a CVT if they lasted as long as a manual or traditional old school auto transmission. Long term reliability and durability is a MUST. I've heard that Aisin CVT's are better than Jatco. Comments?
