Nissan Terrano / Pathfinder TD27 - Find and Clean Secondary Diesel Filter

Mt Terrano was very low in power, blowing heaps of white smoke. Replacing the diesel filter didn’t fix the problem. Contrary to the Nissan TD27 forums I searched, there IS another diesel filter INSIDE the injector pump. Mine was clogged, and the cause of the problem.

Had exact same problem. Fixed it right up! Beware a 2nd washer under the banjo!

I have a 1999 intercooled 2.7TD automatic and I never found this filter nor spring. I can easily access the banjo and it has two washers with a large spacer and nothing beneath it. Some say I have to dig deeper but i manage to get 10 centimeters iside the pump just to dig nothing. All the filters, fuel lines, MAF sensor changed, vacuum hoses checked, wastegate and injectors were tested and everything is in proper order. I even cleaned the EGR valve and exhaust manifold. NOTHING. This truck really used to pull. Very sad. I won't go for the fuel pump removal and rebuild and just will get rid of it. Happy for your result though.

My 1996 TD27 Mistral is the same - no spring or filter!!??!!🤔 Any info? did you sort yours out?

@@ianbackhouse3758 hi my mechanic removed fuel pump plunger and washed it with brake cleaner and it solved the problem. He said removal is easy but access was bad. It is the part that pumps fuel into high pressure pump.

I just removed mine altogether. Runs a lot better without it. Mines non turbo tho

I’m not sure what the part number is, but if you do an images google search like ”TD27 injector pump parts” and look for an exploded drawing of the injector parts, you should see the little strainer and its part number. Most Nissan suppliers should be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the video helpfull. I can see that you have a potentiometer at your pump. Are you driving a terrano with an AT from that pump?

My Terrano is manual, not sure where there’s a potentiometer.

I’d imagine the injector pump would still be the same location. Wherever it is, look for the diesel inlet at the top of it. There should be the same banjo fitting.

was it causing a check engine light at all? My Terrano 2 with the electronic pump is giving me 'fuel quantity' error

Not in my old Terrano. Just super gutless and white smoke from exhaust.

My terrano 2 is coming up with needle injector sensor fault and is very sluggish after i had the gearbox clutch replaced at a shop. Wasnt doing it beforehand tho. Anyone have any clue as to why it could have happened. Had to buy another injector from the UK for $200

Mate I've just brought a td27 d21 Navara off a guy who ran out of diesel and now can't get it started I've had a look cracked injectors pumped pumped pumped went really stiff but nothing come out then pulled rubber line off that goes onto steel injector lines and had diesel coming from that plugged back in still no diesel from injectors? Blocked injectors or do you think it may be something more and I've just waisted $1600 lol

Have you loosened the steel pipe nuts that connect the high pressure diesel to the injectors? If they drip or spray diesel while cranking motor, then possibly injectors are bad.

Hey mate do you think mine may have been removed im trying too fish for the spring and filter out but no go i am using number 8 wire with smaller hook but it falls right too the bottom of hole (1994 td27t terrano) mine won't start just cranks ive been through glow circut thats all sweet ive cracked 1st two injectors and there is fuel coming from the rail, ive taken the out line off the diesel pump and pumped it and it sprays diesel out, getting quite stuck on what it could be... any insight would be great thankyou

I’d try a piece of thin lacing wire instead of the number 8. It sometimes takes a bit of fishing to hook the spring out, and same for the thimble filter.

Hey mate did the filter completely stop your terrano from running or was it just blowing white smoke etc?

@@ashleymccleely6442 It got so bad the engine wouldn’t run more than a very rough idle at half throttle. Had to do the operation on a farm track to get home.
